Are you watching, now on BBC 1?

Ana Mon 05-Oct-15 22:43:47

So do not write on this thread!

Can you imagine the response if someone dared to post that on one of the political threads...? shock

Anya Mon 05-Oct-15 22:43:53

You sort of slipped in under the wire while I was posting Merlot - probably because I deleted my original rant and substituted something less abrasive.

Anya Mon 05-Oct-15 22:46:34

Freedom of speech only works one way Ana

Ana Mon 05-Oct-15 22:49:21

Yes of course, dear me I was forgetting...

durhamjen Mon 05-Oct-15 22:50:15

It is a political thread. Did you not notice?
There is no reason why you cannot join in a rational discussion, but it would be better if you had seen the programme, and therefore had something constructive to say about it.
Just to say you are not going to watch it adds nothing to this discussion, so why waste your time?

Cherrytree59 Mon 05-Oct-15 22:50:17

Is there a country on this beautiful earth that doesn't suffer from Racism?...

Anya Mon 05-Oct-15 22:52:29

Shame though, it used to be such a British thing you know the old (said with an Etonian accent) 'I may not agree with what he's saying, old boy, but I'll defend to the death his right to say it'.

Ana Mon 05-Oct-15 22:54:24

The category is 'News and Politics' durhamjen, in case you hadn't noticed. I'd have said this thread is more about news (i.e. a tv programme) but of course to some everything is political...

durhamjen Mon 05-Oct-15 22:54:33

It was interesting, Cherrytree, to see that the people of Somerset, where there are only 2 in 1000 black people, were the friendliest and least aggressive of the three places surveyed.
Another interesting finding was that most of the people who made racist comments were men driving past in cars.

Anya Mon 05-Oct-15 22:54:50

WTF are you talking about DJ?

I never said I hadn't watched the programme. I said I'm not prepared to discuss the issue on GN because of the prevailing climate on here.

Anya Mon 05-Oct-15 22:56:46

And you filled in the gaps exactly as expected.

Alea Mon 05-Oct-15 22:57:14

Just a detail
If this thread is a discussion of whether or not Britain is racist, why is it necessary to watch a particular TV programme?

If on the other hand it is a discussion of a TV programme, should it not be under TV and Radio rather than News and Politics.

Misleading.

durhamjen Mon 05-Oct-15 22:57:45

Not my fault that HQ linked the two together. Anyway, how do you tell the difference? It was listed as a political programme in my paper, not news. You could always watch it and see.

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 05-Oct-15 22:57:48

I vaguely thought I would watch it when I saw the trailer. But somehow I was led astray by Wayne. I might watch it on catch-up.

I don't think there is anything wrong with having a thread about it. Each to his own.

Alea Mon 05-Oct-15 22:57:58

Oops, just seen Ana beat me to that.

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 05-Oct-15 22:59:27

"The prevailing climate" on GN is only what you make it. hmm

Ana Mon 05-Oct-15 23:00:02

Quite. Although as I said in my previous post, to some everything is or must be made political.

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 05-Oct-15 23:01:33

Oh for heaven's sake! What does it matter if the OP put it on a different forum than you might expect! hmm

durhamjen Mon 05-Oct-15 23:02:12

Hope you do watch it on catch up, jingl. It definitely makes you think about attitudes.

durhamjen Mon 05-Oct-15 23:04:14

Why is it that the same group of people always feel they have the right to highjack any thread they do not like?

Ana Mon 05-Oct-15 23:05:12

Yes, jingl, you're ripe for the picking at the moment, apparently!! grin

merlotgran Mon 05-Oct-15 23:06:46

Highjacking a thread?

Pot, Kettle, Black? hmm

Anya Mon 05-Oct-15 23:09:27

Not so jingl there are a goodly number of people who have opinions, but are afraid of putting their necks on the line, to be shot down by narrow minded zealots who can be quite aggressive and vitriolic in defence of their extreme views.

This shuts down discussions and encourages arguments, which lead nowhere. So why bother.

Anya Mon 05-Oct-15 23:10:57

moon

durhamjen Mon 05-Oct-15 23:13:21

Thank heavens for that.
