So how do you feel about it?

Just heard about Gransnet and Mills and Boon forming a link and planning to work together. Can't say I'm thrilled to hear it. It seems to imply a rather clichéd view of us Gransnetters or maybe I have a rather clichéd view of Mills and Boon. Not sure if I'll stick around to find out. Interested to hear what you others think.

Bizarre! - or have I slipped into Cliche Mode, too?!

kittylester Wed 04-May-16 15:57:43

What does that mean jane?

whitewave Wed 04-May-16 15:59:22

What does that mean? I've never read any M&B.

Jane10 Wed 04-May-16 16:04:02

I only found out about it via Twitter. I wouldn't read M&B books personally. As far as I can gather they seem to be formulaic romances some racier than others. I'd always thought that GNers had wider horizons than that. Oh well. I suppose it all comes down to business being business.

Indinana Wed 04-May-16 16:04:38

Oh goodness shock. I'm not sure I really understand what 'forming a link' with M&B will mean for GN, but it does sound rather clichéd to me too.

kittylester Wed 04-May-16 16:08:30

But how will that impact on us, I wonder?

Indinana Wed 04-May-16 16:12:39

Seems the Mills and Boon online community will be invited to share and discuss sex and relationship issues with us hmm

Jane10 Wed 04-May-16 16:16:02

Oh joy*!
* irony alert.

whitewave Wed 04-May-16 16:19:14

grin they are taking the pee aren't they? With whom am I going to discuss my first kiss and how well I am ageing it is beyond ridiculous.

merlotgran Wed 04-May-16 16:22:01

We once had a couple of Jack Russells called Mills and Boon.

Can't say I've read any M&B though.

I do hope it doesn't mean we've got to go through all that 'first kiss,' stuff again.

Whenever anyone's a bit 'feisty' on here the thread usually gets deleted. hmm

ninathenana Wed 04-May-16 16:24:04

sad

Ana Wed 04-May-16 16:24:23

They might get a bit of a shock on here if all they read is Mills and Boon...grin

Alima Wed 04-May-16 16:26:05

Bit late for an April Fool? So how come Gransnet is synonymous with bodice rippers then. Bit of an insult methinks.

Luckygirl Wed 04-May-16 16:27:04

Well we are grannies - whatever else can you expect of us?! confused

Jane10 Wed 04-May-16 16:29:24

We were 'feisty' enough to extract the DNA of strawberries at the Gransnet conference last month. I wonder how interested the M&B readers will be in that sort of thing. They're sure to enjoy the political threads of course! Blimey does GNHQ actually read the threads. Who do they think we are?

kittylester Wed 04-May-16 16:33:12

I've just Google it and one article said that we love discussing romantic fiction - I missed all those threads!

cornergran Wed 04-May-16 16:51:06

Hmm, maybe HQ could give us some background before we all get too irritated? It would have been nice to be told, rather than to find out ia Twitter. Wonder what the M&B community make of it.

hildajenniJ Wed 04-May-16 16:52:11

I've never read any Mills & Boon books either. You can keep romantic fiction as far as I'm concerned. ?

Jane10 Wed 04-May-16 16:58:55

Yes Cornergran, its rather taking us all for granted. Wish they'd given us the opportunity to at least discuss it. I am irritated I'm afraid.

Indinana Wed 04-May-16 17:05:17

I hope GNHQ are reading this thread. I don't think they know their membership as well as they think they do angry

LullyDully Wed 04-May-16 17:05:49

Think I will stick to what I can find in Waterstones. May be ready for Mills and Boone and Barbara Cartland in my rotate. (Soon ?)blush

Alima Wed 04-May-16 17:06:15

Maybe GN is getting sponsorship from M&B? Think I would rather pay a sub given the choice.

Indinana Wed 04-May-16 17:06:56

Note to self: order rocking chair; buy cat.

Alima Wed 04-May-16 17:08:40

My cats do not read M&B either.
