How to firm and tighten sagging neck skin

Neck wrinkles

The neck and the jaw - two areas where signs of ageing like to pop up like bad pennies. The charmingly named 'turkey neck' effect continues to be a major concern for many women over 50, but luckily all is not lost - here are our top tips for turning back the clock <slightly> and firming up neck and décolletage skin.

Exfoliate

Slough off dead skin to encourage cell regeneration on your neck and décolletage - but don't slough too vigorously. The skin on the neck is thinner than elsewhere on the body (apart from the face) and a gentle exfoliant will get the job done very nicely. Try something minimally abrasive like Liz Earle Gentle Face Exfoliator, £16.60, Boots.

Never skip sunscreen

This is a crucial step to ensuring your neck remains more human than turkey. Whatever the weather, use a day cream with SPF25. Every day. All the time...can you tell we think this is important?

Facial and neck exercises (yes, really)

If you have five minutes to spare in the morning, it's worth having a go at some facial exercises in order to help firm and tighten the skin on your neck. Face yoga expert, Danielle Collins, demonstrates a specific neck exercise here - skip to 3:25 on the video for a quick how-to.

Firming neck creams

Things to look out for in neck creams are Vitamin C, retinol and collagen-boosting ingredients. Prices range from purse friendly to lip-pursingly expensive, so we've searched out both the cheapest options, as well as investment buys.

If you're not keen on the idea of shelling out for an extra cream, you could also try applying any products you use on your face to you neck as well - that's if you don't already.
