My sympathies supa.I hope you are eventually sorted. I had colonoscopy and gastroscopy a year ago to rule out any sinister cause of my severe anaemia. It was not as bad as I had feared, as I was sedated. I go in to have a day-case procedure on Tuesday, for a problem I have put up with for 42 years. I am not in the least worried about the Hospital visit, but am stressed about my daughters having to take turns to stay with me for 48 hours after the general anaesthetic (surgeon insists). I am busy baking to save them having to cook. It is such a hectic time with their 3 children each, so I feel really guilty. They are fine with it, saying it is payback time. I suppose they are right, I do plenty for them, but we grandparents are used to giving rather than receiving help aren't we?

Good luck Supernana hope all goes well. You've just reminded me of a time when my DH had to take picolax, took it, kept to the diet and had the desired results smile, went to the hospital the next day only to be told the consultant doing the test was ill and all appointments cancelled! He had to go through it all again the following week.

mrshat Sat 10-Dec-11 17:54:07

Good luck Super. Have had the Picolax doses and the 'loo' day was worse than the actual 'procedure'! Hopefully it will all sort itself out for you very quickly - my consultant wasn't that dishy but very chatty and guided me through the whole thing encouraging me to look at the screen! IDTS! grin

I'll be thinking about you, supernana. It'll soon all be over and you can have a lovely rest, watching the sea and its forever changing scenes. Here's a wee hug for you and a lovely bunch of thanks Look forward to seeing your posts again very soon. smile

The FIRST one i had...i had not long met my OH..and i was staying over at his house..and he showed how much he cared...he used to spend ages shifting the 'concrete'..i remember being quite embarassed....and the wind...after.. oh my!
i met a male neighbour waiting to go into xray for the procedure....and i said ..i never thought ..you and i would meet in our nighties..with bare bums..lol

Good luck Supernana thanksthanksthanks- and poor you to have such a long journey in this foul weather. I hope it all goes well. DH has colonoscopies every 6 months and takes Moviprep. The hardest bit is timing it so that he can get to the hospital in London as it involves car to Milton Keynes, train to Euston and bus to Royal Free for the procedure. He starts the day before, stays within seconds of the loo all day, is up most of the night, but by next morning is usually so empty he can actually travel.
To cheer him up, I like to remind him that some people pay hundreds for a detox like he is getting. He never seems to appreciate that though.

supernana ouch! made my eyes water, sounds like you have it all sussed, but still unpleasant to go through, hope things turn out (if that is the correct phrase)! I think maybe we will all may be having our own "cough" "clear out" over Christmas when we have "overendulged" confused not quite in the same manner as you though shock take care smile

In spite of being otherwise engaged in much to-ing and fro-ing, I have to fit in a daily fix of uplifting chat on GN. Thanks for the lovely messages...such a comforting treat, especially on a Boggaday [as Bagitha's grandson calls it.] Yes, indeed, seeing my insides in all their glory on the screen seems a wee bit spooky. Hate it when the specialist sucks his teeth and sighs...'now what do have we here?' hmm Afterwards, the wind almost blows my Sloggis off! blush Never mind, off we'll traipse around Tesco - a treat for we who live in a wee village with a teeny weeny shop. (((hugs))) thanks to everyone.

Gally Sun 11-Dec-11 12:18:31

Wow Super, better start practising your 'it wisnae me' look for when the wind rushes round the aisles of Tesco grin

supernana Sun 11-Dec-11 12:24:50

Gally grin Ooer, better not bend over and rummage through the tatties!

Gally Sun 11-Dec-11 12:26:44

No, just stay upright - much safer!!!! blush

Supernanna good luck for today.... bet you're far to busy to be checking GN.....thanks anyway.

JessM Mon 12-Dec-11 07:44:50

Oh poor supernana the things we have to go through...
gracesmum you live near me! Hello neighbour. Did you go to see the Red Bull in CMK cars on Saturday?
Kinda think there must be some things I have to do pre-xmas. One more parcel to post to southern hemisphere (i think it will be late, but adults will cope), chase up why son's pressie has not even turned up here...
mmm - apart from that, one quick dash to town needed. At dawn. Pick one without icy roads. It has frozen after rain here, so not today.

em Mon 12-Dec-11 09:44:40

Supernana I'd guess it will be later in the day before you check in here, so will just say that I hope all went well and that the weather wasn't too bad for the journey.

Annobel Mon 12-Dec-11 10:02:14

Thinking of you super. I hope you made it to Oban safely and got over the 'ordeal' in no time at all. Having had cameras in several orifices, I know it isn't fun, but when it's done it's done. Hey! that rhymes! thanks

Faye Mon 12-Dec-11 10:31:11

Supernana I had to smile at the thought of you bending over and rummaging through the tatties. smile

Butternut Mon 12-Dec-11 11:19:29

I'm so very lucky to have such marvellous friends on GN. thanks to each and every one of you. I did think of you throughout the "ordeal" and you know what...I felt less afraid. Yesterday's Picolax did it's job. By gum...my bum...is awful raw. The journey was okay, thank goodness. A bit of a wait in the day ward, but my husband stayed with me and we did the crossword. Lovely Mr Yadav did scare me when he mentioned that the procedure not only causes pain, but that 1 in 800 patients die!!! He handed a pen to me and asked did I want to proceed! Having survived Boggaday I thought to myself, my GN friends are expecting a rhyme...can't let them down by opting out at this late stage...so I signed smile. Colonoscopy certainly was not painless. Held the hand of a lovely lady named Iona throught the 30 minute procedure. Yes - pumped full of air...delightful musical interlude after we left the hospital. Had a bit of a "whoopsie" in the supermarket. Won't go into detail at this point. blush So, can eat again, and have a wee dram. Friday, off we go again for procedure 2 [in Glasgow]. Would like to say that the staff at Oban hospital are sensitive, patient and exceedingly kind. I told them so. Night night - sleep tight. PS hope to write a rhyme tomorrow x
