I'm 67. I met my 57 year old sister yesterday. I was wearing Robell tight stretchy beige/cream coloured trousers which I love. Got a spot on them, was moaning I'd only put them on. Sister said you shouldn't wear beige trousers anyway. only old ladies wear beige trousers! I thought it was a strange thing to say. Would appreciate views. truth please.
Jalima you put your finger on it. It is not beige per se, it is beige all over and you see them, couples all in beige, and he usually has a beige flat cap as well.
I was people watching at an NT property yesterday and other fashion faux pars of older people that I noticed were that trousers, on men and women, seemed to be baggy, I do not mean fashionable baggy, just shapeless and loose, and a fraction to short in the leg.
Well I have just got back from a trip to London. A big group of polish ladies got on the train and most wore beige trousers and variety of tops, some of which were beige. They all looked really smart, they were laughing and chatting. I decided they must all be Babcia Netto. Polish for Grandmother Net
Thankfully DH does not look good in most shades of blue.....so we have not quite gone down the lookalike stage. I think the worse 'crime' is matching fleeces!!
@jalima1108 I can relate to that about the upside down dolls. I wait and see what DH is wearing before I get dressed. We have a limited colour pallete in our wardrobes and I hate it is we wear clothes that are too similar. . We are the same height and build so I think it makes us look like book-ends.
We often play ‘spot the book-ends’ when we are out. So many couples seem to dress the same, not just the oldies.
Well I’m alright then because the linen cropped trousers that I live in at this time of year are called “neutral”. (Perhaps I’d better check with my style-queen daughter before I dare wear them again though!)
I tend to wear black or navy trousers in winter and cream (not beige) or other light colours in the summer because I can wear them with a variety of bright tops. I certainly dont wear crimpleline nor beige tops/Cardigans. as others have said it depends on the cut, material and style.
A friend once described my hair as 'beige' - ie lighter than brown and darker than fair - though she later amended it to 'fudge' which sounded better. Now it's silver. Although I have a favourite oatmeal cardigan, I like brightly coloured tops. Today it's bright pink with indigo denim crops.
annep just do your own thing, there is no old lady colour colour, just colour. Dressing to suit your figure is the better aim, not wearing tight trendy clothes however they look. If you are short, avoid baggy wide legged trousers is all I would say. I don’t buy anything in beige simply because that colour drains me, being blonde.
I am sit.sitting here in a pair of below the knee shorts in beige. With a blue and white stripped top. I don’t think there is anything wrong with beige as long as the cut and material is right. In town we have a small shop that is aimed mainly at the young professionals looking for casual wear and they sell Robell in beige. I have a pair of blue one and I am going to buy a pair of beige, they are stretchy straights and wonderful fit. Also wear beige chinos. Maybe we should give beige another name like off white or nude like the description for the shoes the royal wear.
Bellasnana you are of course right. I worry too much what others think but I am also very aware of being 67 and not wanting to be seen/treated as an old lady.
Surely whether they look 'old lady' or not will depend so much on quality and most of all, fit. What I think of as 'old lady' trousers are those saggy/baggy ones, often that bit too short. FWIW, that sludgy sort of lilac is my idea of an old-lady colour.
