Who’s going on holiday this year my DH booked a steam train holiday early on this year for Sept/ Oct we’re travelling to the the north of Scotland for three nights here’s hoping it’ll go ahead and in my daily improvements that I’ll no longer need a wheelchair. The weather is going well so far fingers crossed ? it keeps good.

My daughter, who lives in Edinburgh, had a holiday booked from work in July, between two training courses near us, so she was hoping to spend the week in between here with us, bringing her partner, whose birthday falls into that week. We had lots of lovely things planned, but now work have cancelled her holiday. She's a vet.
So we are hoping to take the caravan up to Edinburgh in September, if campsite is open by then.

Trip to Dubai in March was cancelled.
We have holiday to Vegas booked for end of August for our 40th wedding anniversary but its doubtful we will go. Have only paid the deposit and reluctant to spend a lot of money on
a holiday that may disappoint due to restriction that we know must be adhered to. Will probably re book for next year

I am there now - in a lodge in Derbyshire with my son and granddaughter and near the rest of the family, chance to persuade my 3 year old grandson to stay over too, access to lovely walks in the hills, and a swimming pool leisure centre. The sun is shining, unlike constant rain last time we were in the area, and this is our one and only chance probably to do that all together with complicated child access arrangements, and kids growing older rapidly.

Except, it is all in my head, and the first time in this beastly 3 months I have been sorry for myself. I have been sorry for others, so am indulging in a bit of how it could have been this half term week.

If we can go on one holiday it will be to Cornwall (our holiday abroad has already been postponed). Would love to have my Cornwall ‘fix’ - we last went in October and we were blessed with really lovely weather.
I will be nervous though if we do go.
Along with the packing will be face coverings, antibacterial wipes and disposable gloves. I now have them in my bags and in my car and are constantly checking I’ve got clean ones. I’m sure I’m not alone?

Hoping to fly to Corfu on 30/8 and walk the Corfu Trail (220km) followed by ferry to mainland and 8 nights in Parga. Not counting my chickens, but if not then, then hopefully can do next spring.

I should have been going to Tenerife next week. I don't feel like re-booking just yet but am waiting to see if a second wave happens..... I think I will probably wait until next year.
But I might have a few days in Cornwall this autumn .

DH wants to drive to Italy - doesn’t inspire me at all !! sad

Davida1968 Tue 26-May-20 11:26:27

Absolutely no holiday plans. The most we can hope for is perhaps a few days away to stay with family, 200 miles away - if that ever seems prudent. This year's overseas trip to see DS and family couldn't happen (we should be there now!) so we'll go next year - we hope. When, (as I've mentioned here before) it will be three years since we saw them last.... In the meantime we are grateful for all that we have, and we hope to stay healthy.

I dont think I will be going anywhere this year,or maybe for a few years. I've only had the opportunity to travel the past few years, glad I ticked off all my bucket list countries apart from India. I'm high risk. Unfortunately I dont drive so even in the UK I rely on coach holidays which I have enjoyed. I live on the South Coast, but even if I fancied a trip to some of the loveliest beaches it would have to be via public transport to a venue jam packed with people and no public toilets☹.
A friend and I have paid a small deposit on a holiday to the Italian Dolomites at the end of September but will not be going.
I may be wrong but there seem to be a lot of people who seem to assume that post lock down will be same as pre lock down. Maybe I'm a glass half empty person!
Foreign travel appears problematical with difficulties of social distancing and isolating before and after. Further outbreaks of the pandemic could be an ongoing issue.
The cost of travel insurance will increase, especially if underlying conditions.
How long before you need an immunity pass alongside your passport?
What holiday options will even be available? How many more companies will disappear?Coach holidays are popular, especially with those groups who are now vulnerable. I find it hard to imagine a socially distanced coach trip being viable,at best it would be very expensive. Also would a socially distanced holiday be relaxing?
UK holidays offer similar issues. I live in a popular uk holiday town. The south/south west also had one of the lowest rates of the virus in the country. I'm not sure that will be the case in a few weeks☹.
I do hope I'm wrong, but certainly until a reliable vaccine is found I think certainly foreign travel may return to world of those are health wise low risk or can afford a more specialised form of travel.
Within the UK I wonder how long before regions become more territorial, where health is a priority?
Maybe I'm a pessimist,I hope so. Maybe this virus will disappear as quickly as it arrived. I've always suspected however that we we are on the first steps to a very new destination.

Our trip to Barra which was to have been on 9th June has been cancelled. Tourists are not being allowed there due to the risk of the contagion entering their small community. We have rebooked our flights and accommodation for May of next year. TBH I am not really fussed about going on holiday this year. Being able to go on day trips and to see our family I think will suffice for now.

We have a small but modern(ish) VW camper. It does have a portaloo and shower which we haven't normally used much, as campsite facilities have been fine. But we'd feel worried about campsite facilities now.
When campsites are open again, I expect we shall go, but using the little "shower room" in the van.

I agree that we could and should think of Holidaying in the UK, in order to help our economy recover. Having been an enthusiastic traveller I now feel that the thought of spending three hours in an airport before you can board your flight has put me off air travel for a long long time. holidaying in the UK, in order to help our economy recover. We need to support our home tourism first

Absolutely nowhere! We have no desire to go anywhere or mix with other people for quite a while yet.

Covid19 is still with us and still killing people, and I think it could well recur (later this year? next year?) or become something we have to learn to live with, like seasonal flu.

Urmstongran Tue 26-May-20 12:45:44

By default, as Ryanair cancelled our flights home at the end of March, we’re staying here n Spain! Lucky us. The weather was awful right through Easter - if anyone had intended to come out here then they’d have been SO disappointed!

Now the weather is gorgeous (32°C today). I’m sat at the moment on a terrace at a lovely bar with a glass of chilled white Rioja.

Even when flights are possible I don’t fancy a train, airport and a plane home so we will probably stay until the autumn!

If allowed I will be flying to Cyprus to see my beautiful grandchildren, who every time I see them on FaceTime ask “when are you coming to my house Grandma”.

Nannan2 Tue 26-May-20 13:26:46

We're not going now this year, had 2 uk short holidays cancelled.(well, one closed, then other, but other was booked for late august but i cancelled anyway) i wouldn't have felt safe even by then!hmm

Nannan2 Tue 26-May-20 13:28:56

Lets hope they can find a vaccine.and soon.hmm

Pantglas2 Tue 26-May-20 13:37:01

Well I’ve just booked our flights to Malaga at the beginning of July as my poor little Casa will think I don’t love her any more!

We’ll take all necessary precautions and I figure everyone will be on a hygiene high alert at airports etc at the beginning of the lifting of restrictions before complacency inevitably sets in after a few months, human nature being what it is.

We have a trip to India booked for December and I’m looking forward to that as well.

Dancinggran Tue 26-May-20 13:42:15

Have a caravan holiday booked for mid/late August in the North East. Haven't been abroad for a few years so foreign holidays dont bother me.

Rosina Tue 26-May-20 13:42:22

Window Bay.

We should’ve been in Falmouth this week with my daughter and her husband however have postponed that trip until 2021. I have not renewed my passport as I don’t see us going abroad in the foreseeable future. We usually do a trip to Belgium in our car, however as my husband & I have health issues it will not happen this year, due to covid 19. I’m not bothered if a holiday to the U.K. coast is out of the question this year because the most important factor is that we all remain safe and well in our family. We used our spending money intended for Cornwall to buy a brand new ( much needed) luxury lawnmower.

narrowboatnan Tue 26-May-20 14:28:01

If I holidayed anywhere and stayed in a hotel, Airbnb, B&B I’d have to take my own pillow. The thought of sleeping on a pillow that someone else had slept on, breathed on, dribbled on gives me the heebie jeebies ?. I’m staying home and maybe take the boat out somewhere just as pretty and isolated as we are now

Wendy Tue 26-May-20 15:55:12

We had a holiday book in Germany at the beginning of June. We cancelled and rebooked for September. Hopefully we will be able to go. Wonderful hotel near Bonn on the Rhine. Been going for 7 years.

aonk Tue 26-May-20 16:07:23

We’re unlikely to be going away. Apart from city breaks we don’t holiday in the UK. We don’t do camping or self catering at all and so will be dependent on hotels being able to reopen. This lockdown has brought home to us how many places we’d like to visit before it’s too late and will book something when we can.

Personally I can’t wait to get on the first flight out of here. My partner and I are stuck in different countries, me in West Yorkshire and she is in our recently purchased modest apartment on the island of La Palma. We haven’t seen each other since 12th March.
My concern is my being just an ordinary retired person with no health issues and no special status that I will be so low down the list of getting a vaccine should one become available or an antibody test with a health certificate as I’m fairly sure that I’ve had this virus back in March. So I have no idea when we are likely to be in the same country.
I’m finding myself becoming less frightened of this virus as time goes by. I’m doing my best to maintain a physical distance, though not always possible and I refuse to be terrified into such a state of anxiety that the mental health issues outweigh the unlikely chance of catching it through accidentally getting a bit too close to someone in the street.
So yes I would travel at the first opportunity.
