BBQ lockdown

My next door neighbour decided it's okay to have a BBQ today with more than 8 people. Definitely not a meter apart. What is wrong with people it's far too early to lift lockdown.angry

From the start of Lockdown my neighbours have had BBQ's 3-4 days a week. Lots of people & children who used to visit them pre Lockdown & do not seem to think Lockdown applies to them. One day I thought I had a fire in my property till I found the smoke was from the BBQ that had been moved against the dividing fence. Lots of door & window slamming resulted in the BBQ being moved to the end of the garden. It still smokes & smells foul but not so much. If only they would clear the dog mess & disinfect where their dogs pee would be even better. Their guests & children do not seem to notice the smell. Strange people who will not get the virus. Those sheilding will!

Nanny100. What a beautiful and touching painting. Thank you for sharing it. The meaning in that picture can apply to all who lost family and loved ones, who are left with the added grief of not being able to comfort them or say goodbye.

In my opinion, this is why the uk still has 100s die every day.

I agree Hellesbelles- if Boris said "go jump off a cliff tomorrow" would they do so? (but clearly some are already by what other posts are saying??shock And im so angry about neighbours burning plastic- it stinks but we are all told to recycle to save resources!!! I had my son burn some bank papers etc a few weeks ago, but in a proper incinerator, with a lid, but when he said its smoking too much i made him put it out with water.some folk dont care though.

Myself and my shielding and self-isolating Whatsapp group have made the decision this morning we are staying put for the time being, no matter what restrictions are lifted. We feel much safer doing so and we support each other.

Nannan2 Sun 31-May-20 12:05:12

Maybe if Boris had kept his trap shut about bbq's & toilets& going through houses to get to garden etc it might at least have helped a bit!... now he's given the whole country carte blanche to do whatever they like basically!-he's trying out Dominic cummings idea of herd immunity now then?? Cause yes, so long as there is now enough hospital beds free it seems like they don't care if we have a second or third or even fourth surge of it!!??

Tickledpink Sun 31-May-20 12:05:49

I am not concerned with what people do in their gardens or anywhere else, as long as I’m not affected. People should mind their own business. No way will I rub shoulders with anyone apart from my close family, but as they’ve been out working, I could still catch it. Eat well, it will help if

Tickledpink Sun 31-May-20 12:08:38

Oops, didn’t finish..
If your immune system is at it’s peak.

Nannan2 Sun 31-May-20 12:10:55

The Gov't are NOT following the scientists-as Van Tam and the other tall geek (don't know his name?) did NOT seem to agree that its safe to ease it,or have bbq's or toilet breaks....nor does Jenny Harries when she is on tv- she keeps repeating all the safety advice...

Nannan2 Sun 31-May-20 12:15:20

Tickledpink- for some their immunity CAN'T be at its peak no matter what they do- due to medical reasons- and yes, it IS other peoples business what others are getting up to if its jepordising our health/and or risking the spread of this virus!!! angry

Gma29 Sun 31-May-20 12:16:29

So many stories on several threads of people flouting lockdown, (even from the beginning when the instructions were very clear) yet lots of posters seem to be saying it’s all the Government’s fault?

Not saying they haven’t got things wrong, but there’s a sizeable minority haven’t helped by just doing as they please.

Nannan2 Sun 31-May-20 12:22:23

Maybe some people are feeling suicidal due to the virus, and the lockdown, and the loneliness, and losing their loved- ones to covid19? So yes, if they take this 'neighbour reporting' more seriously then there'll be LESS people getting virus/ spreading virus and then maybe LESS folk feeling suicidal?hmm.....

Nannan2 Sun 31-May-20 12:23:40

Gma29, including some government ministers and advisors....angry

Kate1949 Sun 31-May-20 12:27:38

When the government changed stay home to stay alert, one of our neighbours said that she was relieved as she could now kiss and cuddle her grandchildren when they came to her door. She has been doing so ever since.

Tickledpink Sun 31-May-20 12:32:10

Nannan2 we all have our health problems, and I can't afford to catch it either, but I refuse to concern myself with what other people are doing. It's none of my business. I know the virus is here to stay until a vaccine is found, until then I'll stay 'alert'.

Kiri Sun 31-May-20 12:47:47

They are obviously selfish uneducated peasants

Sparklefizz Sun 31-May-20 12:59:15

What we really need is a spell of wet weather! The gardens need it, no one would be on the beach or sunbathing, no one would be having smelly BBQs or bonfires.

Voila! Problem solved! grin

H1954 Sun 31-May-20 13:02:22

Why stress over this? As long as they were nowhere near you then you should be ok! There will always be people who are stupid enough to breach the advice and rules, it's what makes us human. Report them to the police if it makes you feels any better!

We also had a BBQ yesterday, just the two of us and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The BBQ was moved from the patio up into the lawn so that the smoke (it has a metal cover so there isn't much) drifted away rather than into people's houses. More than I can say for my bloody neighbour who insists on smoking his fags directly adjacent to my bedroom window and patio doors! Bloody inconsiderate moron! The very first time he complains about the BBQ he will be told that it smells better than fag smoke...........I'm biding my time on this one but it will come!

Smurf44 Sun 31-May-20 13:09:22

I really can’t understand why Boris has been promoting BBQs in gardens, or anywhere else. Has he not realised that much of England has had NO rain for two months and fences, grass, the countryside etc are all tinder dry. A fire was caused in my town yesterday due to a garden bonfire which got out of control and burnt several fences and a neighbour’s shed?.

What is wrong with a good old fashioned picnic? Everyone could bring their own food, plates and cutlery and take away their own rubbish. No nasty smells to annoy the neighbours and no fire involved. Simples!

janeayressister Sun 31-May-20 13:10:29

All the gloves are off now, as every Tom Dick and Harry will be going with their instincts after the Dominic Cummins ‘ I was just testing my eyesight ‘ debacle.
My child, who works a s Doctor in A& E is fuming at the stupidity and so are we.

4allweknow Sun 31-May-20 13:10:50

Nandarin The number of people and the lack of social distancing uour can forget about. This has been going on well before any lifting of restrictions. What is your concern though is the smoke. If you feel you can speak with neighbours then explain about nuisance and suggest they move the BBQ further down. Failing which contact Council as could be deemed an environmental issue.

Smurf44 Sun 31-May-20 13:11:46

I wonder if Dominic Cummings and family are keen BBQ fans. If everyone is doing it, DC can’t get into further trouble if he holds a BBQ party! ? ?

humptydumpty Sun 31-May-20 13:16:05

My concern is that all these restrictions are being lifted together, so if there is an increase in R how are we (or the government) going to know which was responsible? If they can't narrow it down, we're all going to end up in lockdown again...

dawnfar Sun 31-May-20 14:19:38

Agree. I really don’t like the nosey neighbour and I’m blessed to live in a really friendly area. The bbq smell and smoke may be a problem , but counting people and others in the thread saying phone the police is a bit ott. If they are not going to charge Cummings they will not come out to such a call. I would rather be in a garden with people I know have no health issues than stood in a queue with people I don’t .

GrannyGravy13 Sun 31-May-20 14:35:30

We have a gas BBQ and use it 3 or 4 times a week, it does not produce plumes of smoke, it cooks food perfectly well. We have an outside table and chairs which is laid properly as we would the dining room table.

The weather is glorious and I would rather be outside with a glass of rose/champagne/prosecco than in my kitchen.

I can only assume that those bemoaning BBQ food and smells have only been to atrocious ones ?????
