Not resolutions, but is there anything you're "not" going to do this year, or anything you "are" going to do this year (covid permitting of course)

For me I'm going to try and go out every day somewhere.

Hoping to start my Linedance classes again on Thursday after not going for about 3/4 yrs.

Would love to hire a small Motor home for a few days and go off somewhere maybe Wales.

Also to decorate all through the house.

Think that's enough for now lol

Yes, i woke up on 1st January with sheer determination that i am going to get my head around driving my husbands automatic car. Mine is a manual and i am soooo dubious of automatics. The world and his wife have told me and told me again that automatics are fantastic but having driven manual for over 30 years, i am so dubious.

The reason for my determination involves my mobility scooter. The automatic car is far easier to load the scooter in/out than the manual, so it would enable me to go here and there independently.

Soooooo, 2022 is the year of bombing around in an automatic then bombing around on my scooter ( the scooter that only goes 4mph hahahaa )

To get out more and live life with my DH.
Not phone family at weekends[family time] wait for them to contact me and no obligatory contacting of relations, to pass messages on from others.
To stop spending money on presents that are not appreciated or even thanked for including GC and their parents.

Just booked a firewalk for March ,I did one 11 years ago and it was a fantastic experience so I'm really looking forward to doing it again with OH /daughter this time .Been a bit of a horrible year so I'll be glad to leave it all in the coals

Some good goals here.

I am hopefully 2 years to retirement, so hope to gather up and organize financials so I have a clear understanding and goals to make it happen on time. DH is already retired.

I've already started a 'power into 2022' yoga challenge; 22 days straight of yoga. Day 2 completed. I won't beat myself up if I miss, but I do enjoy yoga, and what it does for me, so I hope to stick to it.

I live in an apartment on the second (top) floor. I always use the lift but this year I’m going to climb the stairs. I counted the concrete steps and there are 57. My heart was pumping by the time I got to the top and I was a little bit breathless. This will do me good. The practice nurse suggested it.

I have been told I’m pre-diabetic and I have a Diabetes Prevention course to attend that I’ve signed up for. It starts in 4 weeks’ time.

This year I intend to make changes to look after my health better. Preserve what I have while I can!

That's great! I just popped on to tell you that I also did the course and learnt a lot. I was able to reverse the Pre Diabetes just by changing my diet. Happy New Year!

I didn't actually make any resolutions as such, but am planning a lower calorie diet and more exercise, to get better at setting boundaries with toxic or manipulative people and to do more hobbies and things that make me happy despite the attempts of said toxic/manipulative people.

I am going to visit more galleries and theatres and stop centring my social life on eating/drinking.
Go to dog training every week and start tai chi and generally make sure I go out on my days off.
I have also decided to be more positive about work, I find things generally live up or down to my expectations so positivity will mean I enjoy work more.

I would really like to reduce my golf handicap so in order to do that I need to be fitter. I have joined Slimming World I am well overweight and bought a Fit Bit to help my motivation to exercise.

Being on my own, everyone assumes I have loads of spare time & spare energy. I'm going to learn to say "No" and be more discriminating with what I do.

Such an interesting thread. I’m full of good intentions - have appointments for dentist, eye test and chiropody booked. Some rooms to have decorated and the outside too - lots of wood trim on the house.
The garden work has come to a standstill - I hope I haven’t been left high and dry! I’ll make contact with the chap on Wednesday. Unfortunately, in my neck of the woods, tradesmen are rarer than rocky horse poo!
Determined to get out more too - might reduce my horrendous fuel bills!

Until Covid I was getting better at saying no to things I didn’t want to do/cancelling me things in order to babysit. I am going to try really hard to reinstate no in my vocabulary.

I also intended to be gentler on myself, it’s what I constantly say to others, but really practice.

I am going to make sure I tell our AC, GC and my darling sister how much I love them more.

I was you, before I discovered the joy of driving an automatic in my 60s. I always thought I'd miss changing gear - I was wrong. Last year I went one step further and I now drive an electric car. Good luck with the change - just remember that your left foot will be redundant smile

I haven’t really thought about it yet but one thing for sure I’m not going to worry too much about covid. I stick to all the rules, agree with restrictions, had all my jabs and this Christmas decided to cancel out some family, why? Because I became so worried that I’d catch something! So now I need to not worry so much, get on with life. Be cautious yes, but need to live..

Really going to get out and about more if only a walk, difficult since losing our 14yr old jack Russell early November, he really did get me out every single day rain hail or shine! Been out maybe 4times since,(big guilt) .
I'm also going to absolutely stop mulling over heat went 'wrong' with my family as it's reduced to one DS occasionally texting! So what? I think I've put in enough graft to earn a retirement from worry and guilt. Nobody else appears to carry those bags so why should I ruin my last time worrying about stuff I can't change? Daft me!
I'm heartened by all the great upbeat messages on here and so glad I joined GN if only for it to dawn on me- I'm not the only old bird with battered wings! Here's wishing everyone a great time!

Inspired by some of you in this thread I am now going to go for a walk whilst it is sunny. Even just round the block is a start, as I have got very lazy recently. Might even help my weight too, which shocked me when I saw a photos of myself on Boxing Day.

Wishing you well Urmstongran, Dr Michael Mosley and his wife (also a doctor)have done lots of work around this following his diagnosis of Diabetes (his father has it), he wanted to see if he could manage it with lifestyle changes rather than medication and came up with the blood sugar diet (there are 2 books and a website), it’s basically a plant based diet and also works for weight loss. I did it for the latter reason, but it’s definitely changed how I eat for the better. Good luck, let us know how you get on.

Absolutely agree! I'm betting we've all done everything we possibly can to avoid serious illness but true that we need to proceed with caution but jolly well PROCEED?!

Well worth the effort. My partner attended one of these courses - took on board the recommendations, then lapsed and became diabetic but subsequently adopted the lifestyle changes again and was able to reverse the condition ( with a little 'push' from me)!

All it took was some diet modification and a tad more walking around.

Type 2 Diabetes causes all kinds of problems which you really want to avoid as you get older. You've made a great start by climbing the stairs!

Go for it!

Try and get out and tidy up my garden - injured my knee while out for a walk around our local park and by the time I could stand for any amount of time, the wet weather started!
Purchase a treadmill and use it every day if only for 10 minutes each time !
Stop eating biscuits !

I will do my best to stay active. My two West Highland Terriers will help with that. After being told that I no longer have type 2 Diabetes I am going to continue to watch my diet so that I can remain Diabetes free. Keep up with my Knitting for charity and do less baking, as I am tempted to eat sweet things.
