M&S miserable models in adverts / emails

I just sent this email to M&S retail customer services. For other "rebels with a sparks card" -what do you think? Here's the email............
Hello Team
I just had an email to advertise denim - apparently everyone is obsessed with it and it's selling out. It may be useful to know that I'm not tempted to buy denim modelled buy really angry and depressed looking women. The first model photo in the email advert shows a miserable angry looking girl with her legs wide open.
The Outfit Makers photo looks like a woman who looks like she has just had an argument and is sulking.
The green jacket woman also looks angry.
But wait - it's the same model.
These beautiful models with amazing figures should not look like they are in a foul mood and want to kill you.
Please choose happier models that look more like an average woman.
Oh and by the way - yes I'm an older woman but have just bought some nice size 10 straight leg jeans from M&S but this advert would not have tempted me to do so.
I hope this feedback helps a bit.
Could you please let me know that this feedback has been passed on the appropriate team?

I agree totally with this. When buying online am presented with countless grumpy looking young women contorting their bodies so I can’t get an idea of how the clothes look like on a normal person.
They are frequently squatting, sat with legs akimbo, or writhing against a wall.
Am tempted to give up.

👏👏👏👏 😂

Well done OP!😁
It’s hard to see how clothes hang when the body is contorted.
An angry face and weird hair doesn’t help either, neither do bovver boots on the end of stick thin legs.

The models often look as though they've been forced to wear clothes they hate and get into very awkward positions so you can't see the awful top or trousers.

Tucking in jumpers and tops so you can't judge the length - important for us petites.

I sent a very similar message to M&S several years ago!
I told them the way they featured their models was not a look I aspired to, never mind that I couldn't actually "see" the clothes properly in the first place.

I agree . I wish the models would aim to give plain information about cut and fit. Especially, long hair needs to be kept off the collar so we can see what the neckline looks like.

Hope these images upload OK to show you what I mean!

Couldn't agree more.I saw the one with legs wide apart and thought who ever thought that was a good shot?

Von58 Fri 06-Feb-26 14:25:16

did they reply??

Von58 Fri 06-Feb-26 14:27:03

Above question was to V3ra ( woops)

Am not sure why these models and models on the catwalk are supposed to look as if they have lost a fiver and found 50p, or why they have to strike such ungainly and absurd postures. The weirdness detracts from the clothes. Neither LandsEnd or Cotton Traders resort to this.

Littleannie Fri 06-Feb-26 15:11:09

I posted a while ago about models sitting with their legs wide open. Most people who replied didn't think it was a problem. I think it looks terrible, I must be old fashioned.

Took seconds on M & S website to find multiple photos of jeans here are three, cannot see anything wrong personally

Tenko Fri 06-Feb-26 15:37:19

I don’t look at the models, I look at the clothes . I’m 5’2 and a 12 and I know the clothes will look very different on me . I tend to read through the reviews, which gives me a fair amount of info about the items .
TBH I don’t register the models pose or expressions .

Oh GrannyGravy13 you are being far too sensible, we were enjoying the whole miserable and contorted model thingy.
🤣🤣

The model with her legs spread wide is adopting that pose because wide-legged trousers are not a flattering look for most women of average height and weight, which represents most M&S customers; they need tall very slim women to carry them off. The three pictures above show women wearing slim-legged jeans which are far more attractive for the average, common British shape.
As for the angry scowls, I do not understand them at all.

The black jeans are definitely wide leg, (I know because I have them)

I am 5’2” size 8/10/12 (depending on cut/style and make) despite loving my skinny and straight legged jeans I have embraced wide legged ones after some cajoling from DD and DiL’s.

They require a different stying to straight legged jeans or trousers. If the fit and length is right, you don’t need to be reed thin and 6 foot tall.

The models scowl and look miserably crabby because they are starving. All they have to look forward to is an Oxo cube in hot water for lunch - anything above that and their agency will fire them.

did they reply??

No! And it seems that at least some of the same issues remain.
I only buy underwear at M&S nowadays.

eazybee Fri 06-Feb-26 18:51:30

Yes, GrannyGravy but you are of slight build. I used to wear wide legged trousers in the 70s when I was a size 10 but I don't think they were as wide then as they are now.

And all the pictures with a washed-out blue tint, like faded Kodachromes from the 1960s.

What annoys me most is when a dress is described as "calf length". "Whose calf?" I asked them, but they didn't reply. I am 5 ft 1 inch, so it's not mine.
