Cross stitch

Ali08 love you piece what a lovely thank you. The quilt is beautiful. Sorry your granddaughter is ill and having to go through a major operation. Is there a link to the charity. I am addicted to cross stitch and would love to donate some pieces to such a wonderful charity.

I made this gnome for my grandson to hang on his Christmas tree made on for his brother a couple of years ago but it was a different gnome.

How many inches needed for framing ? I have read 3, 4, 5 inches

Anniebach do you mean for a piece of your work? Are you framing it yourself or having it professional framing? If it's professional and you know what size frame you want . You need to ask them. But if you are doing it yourself then it's up to you. For more gargoyle I used a 17"x13 frame and white fabric at the top and bottom 1.5" sides 1". But left enough to wrap round the acid free mount board. Taped it with doubled sided tape and used masking tape on the edges of fabric.

have it framed but hasn’t yet found a framer

It think I had 4"s to pull round the acid free mount board. Put doubled sided tape on board and pull the fabric tight the top side 1st then the bottom and sides. And put masking tape on 4 sides then pulled the corners to a point and cut some fabric off then flatten the fabric and taped it down with masking tape .

Don't forget to wash the finished project before framing and iron whilst damp to make it smooth. Hope that helps.

I had this kit with the world of cross stitching my grandson saw it and asked me to make it. It's stitched on plastic Aida my cutting round isn't perfect but if it was it wouldn't be me ?

Made these for my grandson's Christmas fair . Coasters and fridge magnets. Coaster took 2 evening each and magnets a hour each.

Hope some other cross stitchers will post pictures of their work either finished or in progress.

I have been working on the same piece for about a year now. I have about 10 rows til it is finished. Once it is finished, washed and pressed I will post a picture.

Thank you both. It's a slow craft but I find it relaxing and because I always use Aida easy to do just push the needle through the holes. I had problems with my limbs and my hands shake. I dont't bother with French knots or half stitches etc just do full cross stitch. Everything looks fine.

I can’t now use a frame, arthritis in both hands, use a hoop, have started rather a larger pattern than usual, will the hoop
damage the stitched areas Whiff ?

Anniebach no it won't. Just need to make sure when all the work is complete either wash or just iron on the reverse using a damp cloth and iron on medium.

I have always used either a 6" or 4" hoop. I use a spring loaded one as I can't use a wooden one with a brass screw as I have problems with my hands. I always use the loop method to start stitching. And park threads if I am using the same colour within an inch of just using it.

I am self taught so only learnt how to do things by trial and error. But have found it keeps my fingers nibble otherwise they cramp up.

Just saw your post - is that due to arthritis or could it be Dupuytren's contracture? Can t be cured or at least made better with surgery?

Don't give up!

I ought to try cross stitch again but it requires concentration, when I've tried I've gone wrong because I've one eye on the TV.

Yes, I know what you mean about TV watching, I've just finished a jumper for DGD and started making squares for a blanket; probably easier for me than cross stitch which requires great concentration on my part!

Anniebach I will some parking tomorrow on my work and post a pic.
I do it as it saves on thread . When I did my brother's motorbike picture a lot of the stitches on the engine where one or two stitches in one colour then change nearly drove me mad. But it was a labour of love for his 60th.

An aunt of mine had Rheumatoid arthritis so I know how it devastates your body.

You are like her you won't give in to it by not doing things you want. ?
