I'm blowing my own trumpet here but I am very proud of my first foray into cross stitch.
I have actually made three unicorns, two ballet dancers and one Harry Potter. These are for six of my granddaughters. I really hope they like them.

Anniebach this is parking . If you have used a thread and need to use a different colour instead of casing off. You pull the thread threw a part of your fabric you haven't stitched then pick it up again when you need it. Here I have 3 colours ready to thread when I need them . Hope this makes sense.

Anniebach Sun 25-Sept-22 16:53:06

Thank you Whiff I will certainly try that

Anniebach Wed 28-Sept-22 17:47:03

Whiff do you rail road ?

Whiff Wed 28-Sept-22 17:53:38

Anniebach is that when you pass your thread through a line of stitches to get to the part you want to stitch if it is yes I do.

Anniebach Wed 28-Sept-22 18:04:54

No Whiff it’s putting the needle between the two threads,
I should have said rail roading, sorry

Whiff Wed 28-Sept-22 19:06:44

Just watched a you tube video I would never do that as I don't see the point. I use do full cross stitches and never have a problem with my stitches being flat.

This is close up of my stitching at the moment. It's on 16ct Aida smaller than I normally use but it's a kit a friend brought me for my birthday last year .

Anniebach Thu 29-Sept-22 11:20:00

Thank you Whiff you are using 2 threads on 16ct ?

Whiff Thu 29-Sept-22 17:25:30

I am using a thread doubled as I always do. I use the loop method to start . Take a length of thread double it and push the 2 ends through the needle eye . I use a basic needle threader. The push needle through fabric and push the needle through the loop on the thread and pull . Your thread is secure and start to stitch. I use a single thread for back stitch you aren't supposed to but I put a knot on the end and pass my needle through some stitches on the back before pulling to the front. I usually go over 2 squares or more depending on the shape need.

Anniebach Thu 29-Sept-22 17:35:32

Thank you Whiff I use the loop method, confess I avoid
back stitch but will certainly try your method x

Oh but backstitch brings pictures alive, Anniebach.

Ali08 love you piece what a lovely thank you. The quilt is beautiful. Sorry your granddaughter is ill and having to go through a major operation. Is there a link to the charity. I am addicted to cross stitch and would love to donate some pieces to such a wonderful charity.

I made this gnome for my grandson to hang on his Christmas tree made on for his brother a couple of years ago but it was a different gnome.

It was a while back, but here is Boo's scar now. Very neatly done, and reminds me of a Christmas tree.
She's a little 'zipper head'!

Ali08 Mon 03-Oct-22 15:40:55

BTW, Whiff, I ❤️❤️❤️❤️ your gnome!

Boo had an brilliant surgeon a lovely near scar nicely hidden.

My grandson needed something yellow to wear too school next week so made him a badge . Can't cut a straight line even with a metal ruler ?

These are some Christmas decorations for this year. Will only keep the heart shaped one as it's not as I wanted it. The others will be give to family and friends. More planned before the day

Cross stitchers I hope you will post some of your work. To bump this up here are my latest efforts.

Sar53 Wed 26-Oct-22 09:13:50

This is my latest cross stitch. It has taken me a year and there are 28,000 stitches.
I will be getting in framed at some stage.
It was a labour of love, as DH bought it for me for a birthday and I wanted to finish it, but never again will I take on such a large project.

Whiff Wed 26-Oct-22 11:07:59

Sar it's beautiful. I say that every time I do a large piece never again but I am a glutton for punishment. But love the finished large piece. Just do smaller things in between I have 3 pieces on the go at the moment one large and 2 smaller. Still trying to get more Christmas things done.

At least I have done the 12 coasters and 5 magnets for my grandson's Christmas fair. 1 magnet to do yet.

Last week at craft group spend a hour talking before I did a stitch.? Good job it's for 2 hours.

Ugh! I hate solid rulers. I much prefer plastic ones I can see through, so I get straighter lines.
Awww, I love your stitchy, tho.

Ali08 Sat 29-Oct-22 16:04:41

Please excuse the grids, they were removed afterwards.

Whiff Wed 02-Nov-22 05:39:46

Ali just seen your work beautiful. Words can make beautiful pictures and loved the variety of colours. I have never worked using a grid as I could never work out how you did them and did they interfer with your stitching. Hence I miss count sometimes but only I know that . If it's just by one or two I leave it anymore and I unpick and recount.

These are all my decs so far for Christmas. Most to give to family and friends. Keeping the Santas and the heart as the cross stitch is fine but heart is wonky. We are doing a secret Santa at craft group this year will post once finished. It's something to hang on a tree or anywhere else about the size of your hand. Not all my group bother with a tree. But mine goes up on 1st December ready for my grandson's to decorate. What they put on stays no matter how messy.
Hope others post their work.

Ok blowing my own trumpet again. My copy of the world of cross stitching mag came yesterday and was reading the letters page and saw a picture and thought someone has pinched my idea then realised it was the photo and text I had sent in last year of my yoga and cats cushions. 🤦🤦🤦

Whiff Fri 09-Dec-22 06:50:02

I am determined to get more cross stitchers to post. I know it's a slow craft . I took the coasters to my multi media craft group yesterday to give them away to anyone who would like them. The older couple is my latest finished work will frame it.

Hopefully someone will post their work.

Whiff Fri 09-Dec-22 07:32:37

We are doing secret Santa at next week's group. Had to be something
hand sized and could be hanged. It will be lucky dip . So I made this and backed it with cream felt.
