Reading a thread about getting things done, it made me wonder how many of you wrote/ relied on lists. It's a joke in my family, me and my lists. I've always got a list on the go.As i cross things off more gets added on the bottom.I have a sense off achievement when I cross things off.

I cut used envelopes in half for my lists, it make s me feel good about recycling.
I have shopping lists, housework lists, holiday packing lists, if someone is coming to stay overnight the list of jobs is crucial. I could go on and on but I'm boring myself now.

If you make the first task "make list", when you finish your list you can cross off the first task. ?

My lists are now on my phone
DH writes shopping lists and leaves them on the kitchen work surface he then forgets to take it with him.

My dad always wrote lists on any envelope that happened to be lying around which could sometimes be a letter waiting to be posted or a new birthday card!

I do make pre planned lists if it's something like holiday packing depending on what sort of holiday I m going on. Christmas food shopping. present buying etc. I have a master list on Excel and use, that crossing off what's not needed. It is really useful.

I collect all the white A5 envelopes that drop through the letter box, use a hole punch in the top edge and thread a tresuary tag through them for weekly shopping lists.
Then I hang it over the back of baby seat on the trolley so I can read it as I go round. My hubby adds his used envelopes to the pile. We seem to get a lot of these through the door each week.
The envelopes are a free source of note pads for all sorts of things and can be recycled with the other paper when you have finished with them.
If I do forget my list when I go out it does help a bit to have written one earlier.

It happens rarely but if I'm feeling really stressed about various chores piling up I write a list. Ticking them off the list helps me to feel more in control.

I write shopping lists.

I have a grocery list that I add to in the week ready for my big shop, I have a jobs to be done list and I have a list that reminds me what time I put the meat ( or cake etc ) in the oven, what time I put veg etc on to cook or I'd forget how long things have been cooking.smile

DH is the great list maker in our house.

Occasionally when I feel overwhelmed with things I need to doI write a list, but oddly I rarely look at it after that. hmm

NonnaAnnie Thu 21-Apr-16 09:50:08

I write lists then lose the list, so now write in a note book, I have yet to lose the note book but have mislaid it a few times.......

chrissie13 Thu 21-Apr-16 09:56:09

Yes, definitely.....a 'to do' list and a shopping list. I wouldn't remember anything otherwise!

BRedhead59 Thu 21-Apr-16 09:59:09

I have 4 boxes

1. Important/urgent
2. Urgent /not important
3. Important/not urgent
4 .Not urgent/not important

Oh and I nearly forgot :- Jobs for husband!!!!!!

pompa Thu 21-Apr-16 10:03:41

Another box for me "CBA", you work it out grin

ninuksmith Thu 21-Apr-16 10:03:48

Yes I do have food shopping list. The family has all been trained: 'whoever used the last drop/piece/bag of anything has the duty to put it in the shopping list'...and it works! And DH always remember to take it with him when he goes to Morrisons to take his suits to the dry cleaner. He then does the food shopping. I swear we save money this way because he sticks to buying what is in the list...unlike me who goes to the Supermarket for a loaf of bread and a carton of milk, somehow my trolley is full by the time I got to the check out!?

CaliBoingo Thu 21-Apr-16 11:13:53

Ah, lists! I love them. I write them almost daily. If it weren't for my lists, truth be told, I would not have a log of all the things I didn't get done. blush

gillybob Thu 21-Apr-16 11:24:15

I don't do lists as such Tessa101 but I do have a "little book" (well actually it's not so little) that I write everything in. It keeps me right and I tick things off as I do them. My book is invaluable to me as it contains phone numbers, names, dates and logs of calls I have made (usually on behalf of someone else) which means I can always refer back to things if/when I need to.

Eloethan Thu 21-Apr-16 12:07:54

I love lists. Especially when I'm going on holiday, or just away for a few days.
And I also enjoy striking them through.

I sometimes do this when I'm writing my books. It helps me to see where I'm going.

Long live lists! (smile)

GrannyPiggy Thu 21-Apr-16 12:20:42

Definately couldn't function without lists
However when it comes to admin list, I sort through massive pile of paper seperate to 3 piles
To do
To pay
To file
Then I proudly tell my family ive done the office stuff because I now have a list hmm

joyceb Thu 21-Apr-16 12:55:38

I love lists and couldn't live without them as the memory fails.

I've just discovered Google's Todoist which not only allows you to note down tasks to do, shopping lists, etc but you can also set up date reminders and you receive reminders by email to give you a nudge.

All in one place and easily accessed by my phone, tablet or PC (I've always got one of these handy at any time). So when that thought pops into your head you can capture it safe in the knowledge it won't written a piece of paper to be left on the table!

I always do a holiday travel list, to tell me where I should be at what time and if I should be catching a train or bus or plane.
A friend who travelled with me, one time, was most surprised.

I find multitasking very stressful, and don't cope well with more than one thing at a time, so I don't like to-do lists. I tend to get paralysed by the mindset: "I can't do A because B&C need doing, I can't do B because A&C need doing..." etc. I like making other lists though, a list of all the fells I've climbed, all the Youth Hostels I've stayed at, all the counties I've cycled through......

I've seen plenty of GANNT charts at work, but I didn't know the name until I Googled it.

Lady10 Thu 21-Apr-16 13:27:08

I've always made a holiday packing list much to the amusement of my family. My husband never does but when we arrived on one holiday he found he had forgotten to pack any shirts or T shirts necessitating a quick trip to the shops! He still doesn't make a list though. I now have a grandchild who phones me before a holiday to make a list with her as she knows I have everything on my lists! I also make lists of jobs to be done. If I didn't I'd forget to do them and it gives me a sense of achievement to cross things off when I've done them. Hubby does make a shopping list for the weekly supermarket shop though. It sits in the kitchen and we add to it all week as we think of things we need.

grannylyn65 Thu 21-Apr-16 13:50:49

I have 'post it' notes stuck by the kettle!

fiorentina51 Thu 21-Apr-16 13:55:02

I'm a lister too! One for the weekly shop, one for jobs around he house or garden, the Xmas list (in season.)
When my brother was terminally I'll and came to live with us for his last months, I had a large list stuck on the kitchen wall. It detailed all (14 types) of medication and a timetable of when to dose him up! It earned me the admiration of visiting nurses and doctors and reduced the risk of me inadvertently giving him an overdose!

Lilyflower Thu 21-Apr-16 14:23:16

Definitely a list maker. I think that most organised people are and I certainly know that many teachers are. My head of department always started his with a couple of things he'd already done so he could cross them off and feel good!
