Reading a thread about getting things done, it made me wonder how many of you wrote/ relied on lists. It's a joke in my family, me and my lists. I've always got a list on the go.As i cross things off more gets added on the bottom.I have a sense off achievement when I cross things off.

I love lists. Especially when I'm going on holiday, or just away for a few days.
And I also enjoy striking them through.

I sometimes do this when I'm writing my books. It helps me to see where I'm going.

Long live lists! (smile)

I don't do lists as such Tessa101 but I do have a "little book" (well actually it's not so little) that I write everything in. It keeps me right and I tick things off as I do them. My book is invaluable to me as it contains phone numbers, names, dates and logs of calls I have made (usually on behalf of someone else) which means I can always refer back to things if/when I need to.

Ah, lists! I love them. I write them almost daily. If it weren't for my lists, truth be told, I would not have a log of all the things I didn't get done. blush

Yes I do have food shopping list. The family has all been trained: 'whoever used the last drop/piece/bag of anything has the duty to put it in the shopping list'...and it works! And DH always remember to take it with him when he goes to Morrisons to take his suits to the dry cleaner. He then does the food shopping. I swear we save money this way because he sticks to buying what is in the list...unlike me who goes to the Supermarket for a loaf of bread and a carton of milk, somehow my trolley is full by the time I got to the check out!?

BRedhead59 Thu 21-Apr-16 09:59:09

1. Important/urgent
2. Urgent /not important
3. Important/not urgent
4 .Not urgent/not important

Oh and I nearly forgot :- Jobs for husband!!!!!!

chrissie13 Thu 21-Apr-16 09:56:09

Yes, definitely.....a 'to do' list and a shopping list. I wouldn't remember anything otherwise!

NonnaAnnie Thu 21-Apr-16 09:50:08

I write lists then lose the list, so now write in a note book, I have yet to lose the note book but have mislaid it a few times.......

DH is the great list maker in our house.

Occasionally when I feel overwhelmed with things I need to doI write a list, but oddly I rarely look at it after that. hmm

Kittye Thu 21-Apr-16 01:05:40

I have a grocery list that I add to in the week ready for my big shop, I have a jobs to be done list and I have a list that reminds me what time I put the meat ( or cake etc ) in the oven, what time I put veg etc on to cook or I'd forget how long things have been cooking.smile

Eloethan Thu 21-Apr-16 00:40:23

It happens rarely but if I'm feeling really stressed about various chores piling up I write a list. Ticking them off the list helps me to feel more in control.

I write shopping lists.

Nelliemoser Wed 20-Apr-16 23:38:48

I do make pre planned lists if it's something like holiday packing depending on what sort of holiday I m going on. Christmas food shopping. present buying etc. I have a master list on Excel and use, that crossing off what's not needed. It is really useful.

I collect all the white A5 envelopes that drop through the letter box, use a hole punch in the top edge and thread a tresuary tag through them for weekly shopping lists.
Then I hang it over the back of baby seat on the trolley so I can read it as I go round. My hubby adds his used envelopes to the pile. We seem to get a lot of these through the door each week.
The envelopes are a free source of note pads for all sorts of things and can be recycled with the other paper when you have finished with them.
If I do forget my list when I go out it does help a bit to have written one earlier.

Cherrytree59 Wed 20-Apr-16 23:15:59

My lists are now on my phone
DH writes shopping lists and leaves them on the kitchen work surface he then forgets to take it with him.

My dad always wrote lists on any envelope that happened to be lying around which could sometimes be a letter waiting to be posted or a new birthday card!

If you make the first task "make list", when you finish your list you can cross off the first task. ?

Nana3 Wed 20-Apr-16 22:51:55

I cut used envelopes in half for my lists, it make s me feel good about recycling.
I have shopping lists, housework lists, holiday packing lists, if someone is coming to stay overnight the list of jobs is crucial. I could go on and on but I'm boring myself now.

ginny Wed 20-Apr-16 22:26:42

Yes, I am a list writer. Food, meals for the week, jobs for today, other jobs to be done some time soon. I can't imagine how I would manage without my lists and two of my DDs are the same. The other has a DH who does the lists in their house. Oh and some times I have lists of the lists I need to make. ?

Synonymous Wed 20-Apr-16 21:18:13

Always have lists and couldn't manage without them! Have a small whiteboard in the kitchen too. Always have a list going on Tesco and anywhere else I shop online.

A GANNT chart is a list of tasks, but they are given scale by plotting them along a time axis with a start/end date. It enables you to see the critical path for a project that contains many tasks, hence critical path analysis (CPA)

wot Wed 20-Apr-16 20:40:35

Yes, stansgran, I add to my list things I've done! I'm pleased to find out others do that too?

Judthepud2 Wed 20-Apr-16 20:30:56

What is a GANNT chart Jane?

Judthepud2 Wed 20-Apr-16 20:29:44

Yes me too. I come from a long line of list makers so am genetically programmed to make lists. My brother, after a double bereavement and struggling with a very demanding job, realised that he was making lists about lists. ? At that point he decided he needed to retire and sort himself out!

I do sometimes get up in the middle of the night when I can't sleep and make a list of things that need to be done. I find this very therapeutic. Something to do with taking control when I feel overwhelmed by stuff. Like Pompa I find that ticking items off as they get done gives me a sense of achievement. And I too have been known to add something to a list that I have done just to boost my self esteem. ?

Tessa101 Wed 20-Apr-16 20:18:18

Stansgran I admit to that too.I keep my note pad in kitchen and as things pop up in my head I just jot them down.
Call eon
Send flowers
Weed garden
Wash car
The list is endless, I've done it all my life but now I need to do it because I would forget, also I feel better seeing it written down instead of rattling around my head because seeing it helps me decide what days I'm going to do each chore.

Jane10 Wed 20-Apr-16 19:56:43

I really like a list! In fact I prefer a GANTT chart if possible. It just helps to make jobs clearly visible and easy to tick off. It saves the worry of constantly having to remember all the things I've got to do. Love it!

pompa Wed 20-Apr-16 19:48:20

Stansgran, yes I have to admit to that.
