There's a lot I don't get on GN but I have the common sense (or common courtesy) to keep my lips firmly buttoned.

Evening all,
Mr P is currently away from Monday morning until Friday afternoon, with no access to a kitchen and a limited budget for eating out.
So, when he IS home, I try to do reasonably healthy food.
Friday. Sweet chili chicken, bami goreng, small salad on the side.
Saturday. Grilled ribeye steak (on special offer in Lidl) jacket potato, salad.
Sunday. Chicken parcels (a chicken breast, a quality chipolata sausage on top, wrap the whole thing in bacon, bung in dish and roast) roast potatoes, cauliflower cheese (not a whole cauliflower, just cut off a few decent sized florets) leeks, mashed swede, stuffing, a few carrots for me (he's not keen on carrots
) gravy, of course.
He says I do too many different veg, I disagree!
I prep them all, (apart from the potatoes, somehow we have got into the habit of doing them together, him peeling, me chopping ready for par boiling, while listening to the omnibus edition of the Archers
)
I feel that he eats some pretty crap food while away, so like to feel that I'm at least giving him something halfway decent when he's at home!
BTW, he did say he enjoyed his meal, just that there was a bit too much. Didn't see anything left on the plate though.........
There's a lot I don't get on GN but I have the common sense (or common courtesy) to keep my lips firmly buttoned.
Phoenix, don't stop posting your whimsical threads. Gransnet wouldn't be the same without you. I don't think I ever quite got over the classic on-train underwear malfunction! As for me - count me in for lunch. I will eat up all the vegs and pass bits of chicken under the table for the cats. If I can't polish off the vegs, you can make them into soup.
Phoenix I too love all your threads but I missed classic on train underwear, please could you put it up again or direct me to where I can find it, please and thank you very much

You don't even need to be familiar with Phoenix's posting style, just be able to read the opening post about the joys of being chief cook and bottlewasher without automatically assuming that it is starting off with "some sort of argument", and the tone of the posts that follow give a clue to how everyone else sees it.
However, SAAK does seem to enjoy acting like a terrier and taking the chance to use her pointy teeth to nip someone. Don't take it personally, Phoenix.
Another recruit to the Phoenix appreciation society here. Please don't let her them, get you down. Tin hats at the ready chaps and chapesses. We love your anecdotes and look forward to them, so when they arrive in the postings, it's a treat. I'm fed up with people highjacking lovely innocent threads. Had my say, off to see a man about a window now. Morning all.
Ooh, are we having gammon as well? With cauliflower cheese, apparently there is a glut at the moment. Of cauliflowers, not cheese.
We'll need a hot meal please phoenix, the temperature is going down at the weekend, none of your healthy salads thanks.
Oh dear, I sound like Mr P.
Nice post. I'd love a new recipe for bami goreng, please.
Others may make better cauli cheese, I'd love new recipes for that as well.
Send for the mixed metaphor police! Haha.
I like about four veggies with a meal Phoenix ( I know that you are dying to know that!
) just a very small amount of each, much nicer than a whopping great amount of mashed swede or a lorryload of peas to knash your way through.
So, I agree with you, and if Mr P doesn't like it he can lump it go to the pub.
Oh heavens, what a lovely homecoming!

First the posts from you lot (appreciated, as always) and secondly to have (and really enjoy) a glass of what Mr P always refers to as "something restorative", in this case an excellent vintage Champagne!
It was a present from a student who has just left, I had been telling him how good Lidl's Cava is (esp. at less than £5 a bottle) and when I saw the wrapped gift he had left for me when he came back to visit the workshop over the weekend, I thought I could guess what it was.
Wrong !
Oh lish! Oh lush! Oh yum!
Such a shame that I can't risk leaving any for Mr P, one should never risk things like this going off, or even being slightly below their finest.
I think half a bottle tonight, the other should still be ok tomorrow, but I would hate to risk it any longer than that!
A silver teaspoon in the neck of the bottle is said to preserve the "fizz".
It does - we've tried it! Enjoy
.
Right then, (slurp)
To answer/respond to some posts:
Norah the bami goreng recipe is very complicated, but I'll break it down, step by step.
1) Go to Lidl
2) Purchase their fresh (not frozen) bami goreng.
3) Take it home, cook and eat, or if you feel the need to rest after all the exertion, you can put in the fridge and wait a while. Hope this helps.
Nannylovesshopping I will try to find the underwear on a train post, others might be able to find it quicker than I however. If waiting is a problem, the "thong on sideways" might bridge the gap. (It certainly bridged my gap, I can tell you!
)
MawBroon You are absolutely right, the gammon was cursed! (Cooked as well, of course, but definitely a lot of cursing involved).
Right, off to top up my glass, and do some more work on my dissertation on "Politics for Cats, the Implications of Brexit on Border Control and the Economy, from a feline perspective.
I have never heard of bami goreng- nasi goreng yes, but not bami. I will certainly try it out as and when the new Lidl opens.
Luckily I do not like any alcoholic fizzy drinks so enjoy it phoenix. What Mr.P does not know will not harm him and it was a present for you.
I've never tried the Lidl bami goreng but I thought I heard DS complaining that they had stopped doing it a while ago. Perhaps it is back by popular demand, must let him know!
Hello Charleygirl Lidl also do the nasi goreng (the rice one) as well as bami goreng, basically the same pork, leeks etc but noodles instead of rice.
Tried both, we prefer the bami. Quite a large pack of it, but it does freeze and actually has a reasonably good fridge life.
Just being 2 of us, to do it from scratch would not only be a pain, but not particularly cost effective, hence the cheating buying it!
However, SAAK does seem to enjoy acting like a terrier and taking the chance to use her pointy teeth to nip someone. Don't take it personally, Phoenix
it makes a change from me being nipped
Jalima it was definitely on sale in our nearest branch last Friday!
I'm sure he has probably found it again but I'll let him know, thanks!
Must admit not been posting, or even reading as much lately, so some newish posters "style" may have only just permeated my brain, jalima, sorry if you've been nipped.
If the pen is mightier than the sword, is it also a possibility that the wit may (on the odd occasion) be sharper than the teeth?
Could be wrong, often am.....
Nipped but didn't break the skin phoenix
phoenix I agree, if one is catering in my case for one and two for you and Mr.P it is much easier to buy the meal already prepared and so much cheaper.
Some things definitely are, Charleygirl, although of course not all!
The bami goreng in Lidl is around £2.40 for a large pack. I know that I couldn't make it for that, and even if I could the prep of all the ingredients would be a right faff!
OY PHOENIX!! ....Right, I've flattened my chicken breast (no comments about the size of my boobs please) straightened my sausage (ahem) and wrapped it all in bacon. shoved placed it in the right sizes dish ... and now what? I'm quite prepared to curse it ..or say some really unpleasant things to it.. but please will you tell me and aggie what to do with the flipping thing now! (never had this much trouble with Delia)
