Yesterday morning I got some wonderful news when my son showed me their air tickets for a visit in Sept to join us at my mother's 100th birthday. They have always wanted to come but it was the financial side that stopped them, now his wife has now gone back to work so the three of them can afford the journey but it will only be for 10 days.
I did see my son last year but have not seen my granddaughter and my daughter-inlaw since 2014 when they came for my husband's funeral.
It certainly gave me some adrenoline as I managed to clean the whole patio yesterday!

I hope they have paid for travel insurance just in case something happens. My husband arranged a family walking holiday to France which relied on my son driving a hired car. I wasn't going because of my knee. Son slipped and broke his toe after husband had printed the boarding tickets!! all cancelled airfares lost due to no insurance etc.

What a lovely boost to start my day. Good news and someone else's' joy is so infectious. Thanks for sharing Cath9.

Happy news. How exciting to be anticipating a 100th birthday celebration and having the family together again.

Starlady Mon 29-May-17 13:07:32

Wonderful news! Hope you all have a great time!

But 10 days? Phew! That sounds like a long time to me even for a ds and family! I hope you all get along very easily.

Happy Birthday to your mum! How marvelous to still have here here at age 100!

There's always one putting a damper on things isn't there?

That sounds lovely Cath even if it's 'only' ten days sunshine

Jalima1108 Mon 29-May-17 14:24:39

How exciting!
Have you told your mother or is it to be a surprise?

Ten days - make the most of it!

Starlady some people visit their families for 6 weeks and some for even 3 months.
Or live together.

knspol Mon 29-May-17 14:29:28

How wonderful for you all. I used to live abroad and so rarely saw family and can understand how excited you must be. Have a really fantastic time!!!

Cath9, Good news is very energizing so I can totally relate with your cleaning the entire patio. Birthday wishes for your mom on her one hundredth birthday celebration; a remarkable milestone! Have a memorable visit with your loved ones and safe travels for all!

Elrel Mon 29-May-17 16:48:57

Emily just sounds helpful to me! Insurance is well worth bearing in mind.

Starlady, we, and our DC, are all different. Maybe to you 10 days is far too much but Cath9 says 'only ten days' so clearly she would love to have her family visit for longer.

Catch - All good wishes for DM's 100th birthday. My beloved aunt certainly enjoyed hers, just a cosy evening for a dozen close family at her GD's home. She especially liked a card made by sticking (wrapped!) toffees on card to make the shape of 100. She especially liked toffees! And a certain poem about wearing purple! A lovely memory for all of us.

What a lovely treat for all the family to be together! Enjoy every moment, it's the quality time that matters, not the quantity.

Maggiemaybe Mon 29-May-17 17:24:33

What a fantastic milestone celebration to look forward to, made so much more special now, Cath9. smile You must be so thrilled at the news!

I love the toffee card idea, Elrel.

I don't think Emily sounds bitter - just giving some advice based on experience.

As someone who had to cancel a trip to Australia at a week's notice I would recommend insurance too - even though it can take months to get a refund!

Maggiemaybe Mon 29-May-17 17:34:03

Yes, it's good advice, especially when the trip's been booked so early.

Norah Mon 29-May-17 18:24:27

Lovely. I wish you could have a longer visit. Make the best to the 10 days. flowers

Menopaws Mon 29-May-17 22:45:12

I've never used adrenoline on my patio but I will try it, do you dilute it? (Sorry very rude but couldn't resist!! Xx)
