What on earth is wrong with me?

Hello all,

Feeling rather less than tickety boo confused

Freezing cold and shivering (heating is on and turned up to almost 23 shock) headache.

Was fine this morning, until halfway through my mug of tea, when I suddenly had to dash to the loo.

It wasnt pretty, a mop and bucket had to be deployed blush

Had a shower, and a slice of dry toast, waited until I thought it was safe, and set off to Lidl.

Gentle reader, if you are of a sensitive disposition, look away now.

On getting out of the car, the world fell out of my bottom shockblush Fortunately I was wearing dark jeans.

Back in car (carrier bag on seat, just in case). Indoors, clothes in the washing machine and another shower.

It is since then that I have had the bad headache and felt so very cold. I'm usually the one complaining that house is too hot!

Any ideas? I'm not usually prone to bowel problems.

Sounds like something you ate at least a day ago.dont stop your poos with diocalm dont bung yourself up .let it go through.could be something that had eggs or seafood in .even cheese.think back to what you ate..

I'm glad the doctor came. Hope the Codeine helped to relieve the pain. Good luck with the tube and the little stick ?!

Callistemon Sun 26-Jan-20 18:33:55

The codeine will bung you up, although I have heard that it is better to 'Let it go'

Sorry, you probably don't feel up to my off-key warbling, phoenix

Thanks all, yes, Doc did say it can cause constipation, but unlikely to with me at this stage, if it means that I don't get up 8 times between going to bed and getting up, I won't be complaining.

Moggie57 this all started on Friday morning. We have gone back over what have both eaten prior to that and apart from lunch on Thursday, Mr P and I have eaten exactly the same meals. My lunch that day was a pot of Naked Rice and some Ritter coconut chocolate.

Callistemon we discussed immodium, and decided against for exactly that reason, plus it wouldn't have helped with the bloody awful pain, so codeine it is.

Doodle Sun 26-Jan-20 20:25:39

phoenix poor you. I hope you feel better soon.

Greeneyedgirl Sun 26-Jan-20 20:33:58

I once had awful diarrhoea whilst abroad, and was going to the loo literally every 2 - 3 mins for about 7 hours and thought I'd die of dehydration! My OH had codeine luckily and I took those with Imodium, not recommended incidentally, and didn't go again for about a week!
Hope you improve quickly phoenix, it's so debilitating.

Callistemon Sun 26-Jan-20 23:00:48

I've never heard of Naked Rice but rice contains a bacterium called bacillus cereus which can cause food poisoning.
This usually occurs if the rice has been pre-cooked and not cooled down really quickly which some food establishments used to do (they should not be doing this any more). If it is left in warm heaps for reheating later then toxins can develop.

Well, another night with 8 visits between 10.55 and 7.15. sad

Callistemon Naked Rice is sort of dried rice that you add boiling water too (bit like horrid pot noodles, but additive free). I have been having it for lunch a couple of times a week as bread at lunchtime seems to make me sleepy these days.

phoenix Mon 27-Jan-20 10:14:18

I meant pot noodles are horrid, Naked Rice is pretty good.

ladymuck Mon 27-Jan-20 10:48:47

Thanks for the update, phoenix....I've been thinking about you, wondering how things were going.
If your husband is ok then it can't be a virus. Sounds as though it could have been the rice.

Callistemon Mon 27-Jan-20 10:50:53

I haven't heard any reports about that product causing problems but presumably the lab will test for that bacterium too.

Oh dear, keep up the fluids and salts!
You must be exhausted.

Callistemon Mon 27-Jan-20 10:55:43

I hope the results come back quickly

The rice is a strong possibility.

phoenix Mon 27-Jan-20 13:28:40

48 hours for results!

Something I have noticed that's likely to be related to salt intake is some cramp in my hands and feet. Will probably have some clear chicken broth type soup later or beef consomme, will add some salt to that.

merlotgran Mon 27-Jan-20 13:38:34

When I had Norovirus a few years ago I found crumbling an OXO cube in a mug then adding boiling water helped me feel better.

Callistemon Mon 27-Jan-20 13:41:06

I was going to suggest magnesium for cramps but that helps alleviate constipation, so perhaps not!

phoenix Mon 27-Jan-20 13:52:58

Callistemon shock I'm spending enough time on the toilet as it is!

Even with the codeine there were 8 trips last night, I imagine if I added magnesium into the mix I would have to rig up some sort of device to enable me to sleep on the loo!

Jane10 Mon 27-Jan-20 14:34:26

Sorry to hear its still persisting Phoenix. I hope the Codeine is helping the pain anyway.

curvygran950 Mon 27-Jan-20 14:53:36

Flat coke ( the drink!) is a good alternative to dioralyte and has sugar as well as salts . Not Diet Coke , though .

phoenix Mon 27-Jan-20 16:33:31

Jane10 tbh, I can't says it's made as much of a difference as I had hoped, in fact hardly any. Still getting incredible that pain.

curvygran950 yes I've heard that. The doctor also recommended diluted Apple juice.

Jane10 Mon 27-Jan-20 19:18:58

Oh dear. Try diluted apple juice. How about Actimel or similar? Could that help your upset gut?

phoenix Mon 27-Jan-20 19:26:54

Mr P bought some apple juice today, will be having a glass (diluted) in a mo.

I keep fancying jelly blush the sort that's served (or used to be) at children's parties!

Think I'll pass on the Actimel for now, Jane staying clear of dairy until stomach a bit more settled.

Probably be about March the way things are going!

seacliff Mon 27-Jan-20 19:34:38

How horrible, surely it must go soon.

Callistemon Mon 27-Jan-20 19:46:59

Jelly would be fine, it contains sugar

welbeck Mon 27-Jan-20 19:47:28

don't have a glass of anything.
only little sips, gingerly. very slowly, and spaced out.
and why not try some jelly if you fancy it.
could OH lasso some for you.
