Hello all,

Feeling rather less than tickety boo confused

Freezing cold and shivering (heating is on and turned up to almost 23 shock) headache.

Was fine this morning, until halfway through my mug of tea, when I suddenly had to dash to the loo.

It wasnt pretty, a mop and bucket had to be deployed blush

Had a shower, and a slice of dry toast, waited until I thought it was safe, and set off to Lidl.

Gentle reader, if you are of a sensitive disposition, look away now.

On getting out of the car, the world fell out of my bottom shockblush Fortunately I was wearing dark jeans.

Back in car (carrier bag on seat, just in case). Indoors, clothes in the washing machine and another shower.

It is since then that I have had the bad headache and felt so very cold. I'm usually the one complaining that house is too hot!

Any ideas? I'm not usually prone to bowel problems.

When DS2 had a similar infection, tests showed it to be campylobacter and it was tracked down to a pub where he'd had lunch. The salad vegetables had been stored in the fridge where they could be contaminated by raw meat. The symptoms do sound very like yours Phoenix. I think DS had antibiotics. After some years, he has decided to be a vegan.

If campylobacter it is a notifiable disease as your doctor will have told you.
Every sympathy - get well soon!

Callistemon Mon 27-Jan-20 20:03:18

That reminded me, welbeck

Ginger ale could be good

phoenix Mon 27-Jan-20 21:26:44

welbeck your last line has me a bit confused

Not sure where you are based, but we don't have wild jelly around here, and I have my doubts about Mr P's wrangling abilities.

Jane10 Mon 27-Jan-20 21:30:13

I had campylobacter. It was awful. I felt so ill. Got it from some undercooked chicken in an Indian restaurant. I had only gone to be sociable as workmates wanted to go there. I don't even like Indian food.

MawB Mon 27-Jan-20 21:33:15

could OH lasso some for you

I have yet to get to grips with juggling jellies grin.

Results should be back on Wednesday, with any luck.

Hopefully they won't want another sample, but if they do I'm going to have to devise a better collection method. The one suggested by the doctor didn't go too well, especially when the spatula thing decided to detach itself from the lid and I had to fish it out of the toilet!

Why me? There must be loads of those pots around, and I get a maverick one.

Doodle Mon 27-Jan-20 22:00:49

Why you phoenix ...... because it could only happen to you, that’s why ?. Seriously though, I do hope you feel better soon. You must be exhausted going to the loo so much.

dragonfly46 Mon 27-Jan-20 22:21:05

Just caught up with this. Hope you have a better night tonight and get well soon.

Grannyflower Mon 27-Jan-20 22:37:18

Sounds like the same symptoms I had. Started New Years Day, dare not be without arms reach of the loo for four days and took a good two weeks before I felt well again. Just rest and don’t force yourself to eat but do sip water to keep hydrated. Wishing you a speedy recovery XX

SueDonim Mon 27-Jan-20 22:50:49

Ouff, that sounds not a lot of fun, Phoenix, flowers

Dh had campylobacter once. That wasn’t fun, either.

You can easily make your own rehydrate solution at home, if you wish.

Six level teaspoons sugar.
Half a level teaspoon salt.

Stir to dissolve in one litre of water.

Sip slowly as required.

Refrigerate and consume within 24 hours.

Urmstongran Mon 27-Jan-20 22:52:30

I hope there wasn’t any urine in that pan when you fished out your bit of specimen phoenix as it says on the leaflet that comes with the stick & pot that it can adversely affect the result.....

phoenix Tue 28-Jan-20 06:37:16

Urms I aborted that mission and started again on the next "visit". Didn't have to wait long!

Feel cheated, I didn't get a leaflet!

kittylester Tue 28-Jan-20 07:48:00

Just checking how you are phoenix? I think most shops sell jelly!!

Bathsheba Tue 28-Jan-20 08:07:07

The easiest way to collect a poo specimen is to put cling film over the toilet pan, then put the seat down on top. Just don't pull the cling film too tight, let it droop a bit, cos otherwise your bottom will just stick to it when you sit down. Ask me how I know blushgrin

Been following this thread, but not posted before - do hope you're starting to feel a bit more human phoenix xx

phoenix Tue 28-Jan-20 09:29:23

Good morning all, and thank you for the good wishes, they are appreciated.

Only 4 visits last night, as opposed to 8 Fri, Sat, Sun, so that's an improvement.

Bathsheba an incident that happened yesterday evening make me feel that method might not be appropriate at the mo, I wasn't going to post about it as it is rather traffic blush, but will do later.

phoenix Tue 28-Jan-20 11:49:32

TRAFFIC?????

Graphic you stupid tablet!

grannyactivist Tue 28-Jan-20 12:06:21

You must be feeling exhausted Phoenix, yet you still keep up your cheery banter. You're such a star. flowers

giulia Tue 28-Jan-20 12:33:31

Bathsheba That's a really good hint - hadn't thought to do that. I held a small plastic dustpan under myself when I had to do this recently.

Jane10 Tue 28-Jan-20 13:12:20

Can't believe there's any 'solids' left Phoenix!

phoenix Tue 28-Jan-20 13:17:02

The problem I have is the incredible FORCE it comes out with, a bit like your bottom doing a projectile vomit.

MerylStreep Tue 28-Jan-20 13:26:50

Phoenix
For your sake I hope you don't get what I had after my last bad bout ( the paramedic had to be called for that one as I couldn't stand up let alone support myself on the toilet) I had blisters
My doctor has the same dark humour as me so we both had the giggles.

Urmstongran Tue 28-Jan-20 13:36:20

After I was unwell over Christmas and into the NY I’m sure I’m not the only one on here who thinks these bugs/viruses are getting stronger?

SueDonim Tue 28-Jan-20 14:00:23

An old plastic container such as a food tub is also a handy ‘collection’ vessel. If you feel icky (who doesn’t?) at the very thought of sample-gathering, use a small clean plastic bag or gloves to handle it.

Force, I believe, indicates infection, Phoenix. I hope you get your result ASAP. flowers

My son and family are enduring their second bout of tummy bugs in two weeks. Of course, the kids were bouncing around again after 48hrs, while he and dil took a week to recover. ?

GrannyGravy13 Tue 28-Jan-20 14:17:19

Just noticed this thread Phoenix, I hope you are feeling better.
