Anyone started planning Christmas already?

I realise we're not out of the woods yet but having spent so long away from family I can't bear the thought of not being able to celebrate Christmas with them too. What is Christmas likely to look like for you? We're planning a big get together with my two children and the grandkids which will involve spending a few nights at my daughter's. We need to look forward to something. Even if we know there's a small chance it may have to be cancelled.

I’m with Bluebelle and Peardrop.
Life is short enough as it is. Let’s enjoy each part of it as it comes.

Like most, given all our plans for this year have gone awry, cancelled yet another holiday yesterday, there's little point thinking about Christmas as we have no idea how long this virus will take to run it's course. So no not thinking about it all, not that I do usually in the height of summer.

Quite!

No, no no

I have bought quite a lot of presents already in the sales online.I wouldn’t usually buy presents this early but lockdown has given me time to browse and I have got some lovely things.

Last Christmas we were both very ill and were unwell for quite a while.Christmas was cancelled and who knows what will happen this year but at least we have presents for people.I have also written a list of where everything is!

We found out last week our pre Christmas break is cancelled which is a disappointment but hey ho so long as we can keep healthy??

Is it December already?

biba70 Thu 30-Jul-20 21:04:28

honestly- time to stop all the commercialisation of Christmas and buying huge amounts of presents for a huge amount of people. We made that decision years ago, and by agreement with all, only buy for DDs, DSs and grandchildren - and anyone who shares Christmas with us on the day. Consumerism is just so nah. Think of the environment.

I thought the C word was banned on Gransnet until September at the earliest. I would like to ban it until December.
I'm not bah humbug-ing but I like the mad rush in December, crowded shops, snow on the ground, everyone rugged up in hats and scarves, C trees and pretty lights, C music from buskers. When it all starts too early and goes on and on the magic is spoiled.
Just my opinion, for those who like to stretch it out, I can't stop you, enjoy.

Actually, mentioning it is banned until we have had our annual Street Fair in early November. And the fair is cancelled so I imagine Christmas is too!

EllanVannin Thu 30-Jul-20 21:14:27

Not even thinking about it this year.

Peardrop50 Thu 30-Jul-20 21:43:29

Well Kittylester that'll save us all a few bob.

Esspee Thu 30-Jul-20 21:50:38

Christmas is still in December.........right?

avitorl Thu 30-Jul-20 21:56:38

I intend to put the sprouts on to boil on 1st August.

Urmstongran Thu 30-Jul-20 22:04:54

Oh give over! The sun’s still shining.

Avitor and MawB I’m with you. Can’t stand the “build up” nonsense. In fact I’m wondering if this thread is a wind up given that it’s JULY.

PinkCakes Thu 30-Jul-20 22:34:27

We haven't had summer yet! I don't start buying anything until November!

Sallywally1 Thu 30-Jul-20 22:38:05

No. Just enjoying summer. In five months time I will be looking forward to summer (Christmas being over!)

Christmas is grim!

BlueSky Fri 31-Jul-20 08:49:25

Not at all. Usually a low key affair anyway but under the present circumstances, I feel we can't plan anything ahead or we could be bitterly disappointed.

Dorsetcupcake61 Fri 31-Jul-20 09:19:08

I like Christmas but not sure what form it will take this year. On the positive side I enjoy crafting and so am taking the opportunity to make a few gifts now rather than last minute rush. I always think its wise to plan ahead and buy a gift I know someone will love when I see it.

DiscoGran Fri 31-Jul-20 12:41:20

I love Christmas, but don't even think about it till December.
It's summertime, people!!!!! ?️?

You and me both.

Hate Christmas!
I’ve tried to analyse why, but really no reason - just hate it - have done for 30 years! Nothing awful happened around that time, but it’s getting worse every year. BiL died 6 years ago and SiL has been coming to us ever since, despite having children and grandchildren near where she lives, but my dislike of Christmas was long before this.

Spend a fortune on gifts which are well received, make a lovely meal for family, neighbours in for Christmas morning fizz - but I can’t wait for Boxing Day!
Get that bloody tree down and tat packed away, then buy hyacinths and daffodils to herald Spring.

Perhaps I need therapy?? X

Wish we could ask Mods to delete this thread- I just do NOT want to see the C word come up on the latest board.

vampirequeen Sat 01-Aug-20 21:25:59

Definitely planning already. Spreading the cost makes it easier. I'd hate to start the New Year with new debts.

lemongrove Sat 01-Aug-20 21:32:12

Perhaps we could have a new GN rule, that anyone even mentioning C————-s will be parboiled with some sprouts and strung up with tinsel.?

biba70 Sat 01-Aug-20 21:34:27

Great idea- 100% approve -but where will you find sprouts at this time of year ;)
