Retiring and living frugally in money from downsizing after years of stress
I’ve just looked at my Yahoo page and I saw a news item claiming that a very well known high street shop which sells health products, make up, and sanitary products, have launched a new kind of sanitary pad that is washable which is very commendable in today’s over polluted world, but the wording on the box says, and I quote ‘For people who menstruate.......’ because the store didn’t wish to upset/offend anyone by using the word ‘women.’
I know we’ve had threads discussing transgender issues before, and I don’t have a problem at all with transgender people, but when I saw this I honestly thought that the world has gone mad. Is there really a problem with saying women menstruate? It’s a fact isn’t it? I’m perplexed to be honest. What do other Gransnetters think?
Sorry, I had to make four posts as I couldn't work out how to copy all those things into one post.
Just one illustration of a clear definition of 'male' without confusion or ambiguity while the same organisation find it so complicated to define 'female'.
Crimes have been committed by people, usually males, who claimed to be the opposite sex and had that accepted as fact by e.g. hospitals and prisons.
Whether those people are part of the trans community, or imposters, they were given the opportunity to commit their crimes by the current acceptance of the demands of trans activists.
In past years, until very recently, that opportunity was not available.
But there have been trans people living in society for a long time and they didn't commit crimes (unless some can produce figures) They would be using facilities and passing in many cases as women. Now it seems they are regarded as a threat. So is it just that there are now people who would be a threat anyway finding new ways to pursue their ends?. Is it right to punish the majority of trans people because of a few? Wouldn't the logical outcome of policies like that be to castrate all males because a few are rapists?
Question:
Recently they grew a man a new penis.... On his arm (temporarily)
Our dna which is actually 99% the same for every member of our species... Just 1% is responsible for our differences.
When doctors, and I have no doubt they will accomplish it, make it so that a transgender woman can physically menstruate and even carry a child and breastfeed....
Will everyone accept her as a woman?
trisher when you go through stringent airport security do you think how unreasonable it is because most people are not terrorists?
When you have to get security tags removed from purchases do you think it's unreasonable because most people are not shoplifters?
Single sex provision is a way of protecting females from males, even though most males present no danger.
When doctors, and I have no doubt they will accomplish it, make it so that a transgender woman can physically menstruate and even carry a child and breastfeed....
I think it's very unlikely that that would be a good thing for the baby.
I think it very likely that most people would call that person a woman but it wouldn't be true.
Pathetic.
Cross dressing and men living as women, women living as men have all been around since time began. Gays and lesbians had a tough time in many societies, here in the Uk homosexual activity was illegal until 1967. Lesbians were ok, evidently on the grounds that Queen Victoria simply didn't believe women behaved like that.
Societal attitudes and the law have, thankfully, changed in a positive way in recent years. Generally speaking, people are less up tight and more liberal, less threatened by the way people express their sexuality. The current debate about the threat to women (so called cis women) by some TRA's isn't something that can simply be dismisses. Some comments on this thread seem supportive of the TRA view that feminists, especially those of my generation, are TERFS.
Minority groups need to support each other. Its a sad and terrible truth that women remain a minority group. Trisher has pointed out on several recent discussions that many pregnant women are sacked/made redundant/got rid of because they're pregnant.
Sadly, feminists who continue to be brave enough to raise issues about hard fought for women's spaces etc being lost are being dismissed as irrelevant, aggressive old b*****s.
I have a trans grandchild. Like many other contributors I was active in the women's movement in the60's 70s 80's and throughout my personal and working life, worked to protect the freedoms, the rights of women. I don't need lectures from men on how that is best achieved
Brilliant post Iam64, thank you.
Thank you Iam64.
I think it is yet another invasion of women's spaces by men. Those who feel they need to transgender are not the ones, in general, causing a problem.
I’m with you Gulligranny (Fri 6.21). I want to use ALL female loos when I am out and about. ?
Trisher Please can some posters understand that there are young people who choose not to identify as women they are not necessarily in the process of transitioning nor are they even considering transitioning. They simply choose to be identified as gender neutral that is they choose to be known as people
I know, understand, and accept that some young people identify as gender neutral and don’t accept a binary definition of gender. I’ve never thought of myself as a particularly feminine woman & pursued a career in which at the time women made up a very small minority. I sympathise with anyone who doesn’t want to adhere to society’s expectations where gender is concerned.
But I believe that although gender is societal, sex is not. It is biological and immutable. (I know some people have a different chromosome pattern, but that’s not what we’re talking about here).
Someone who identifies as gender neutral but still has XY or XX chromosomes is still male or female, and by definition a man or woman, however they identify.
suziewoozie
I’m afraid the red mist falls with this sort of nonsense. I understand that there are some trans men who menstruate . I actually don’t care if they are offended by products designed for biological women being marketed as being for women. I boycott any company I know of who indulge in this rubbish the aim of which is to erase women. I’ve not shopped at M and S for nearly a year now since they opened their changing rooms to self id- ing women.
Hear, hear, all a load of balderdash. Where is this claptrap coming from.

I do realise that.
The young person I know wishes to be referred to as 'they' which I do find confusing as she/he is one entity.
@Starblaze
Can I ask though, if others who would call you that do, would it therefor be an insult if they are just working with their belief system and your view makes them feel discriminated against
I have absolutely no idea what you are trying to say here. That's just drivel.
I do not and will never accept that human beings can change sex. I'm 100% positive with that.
I totally accept that many people are not happy with their bodies and feel that they must make changes.
I would always use a persons preferred name, I think that the trans ideology is inherently homophobic and it will do more harm than good to vulnerable people.
Karen White entered the UK prison system as transgender. However, despite dressing as a woman, the 52-year-old had not undergone any surgery and was still legally a male. She was also a convicted paedophile and on remand for grievous bodily harm, burglary, multiple rapes and other sexual offences against women.
In September last year she was transferred to New Hall prison in West Yorkshire. During a three-month period at the female prison she sexually assaulted two other inmates.
The decision to move White to a women’s prison was made public after she admitted in court to the sexual assault and to multiple rapes committed before she was sent to prison.
Those who met White were shocked that she was moved to a female prison, describing the convicted sex offender as “manipulative and controlling”, and questioned her commitment to her transition. The Ministry of Justice has since apologised for the placement.
October 2018
Transgender prisoners have carried out seven sex attacks on women in jail. Official figures show for the first time the true scale of offending by criminals who were born male but were allowed to move into female jails after changing gender.
Yet despite the risks, prison governors are still allowing trans inmates to move into the jails. Male-born trans prisoners were first allowed to request a transfer to women's jails in England and Wales in 2016.
Although trans women make up about one per cent of the 3,600 female jail population, they are to blame for 5.6 per cent of sexual assaults there. The attacks took place at HMP Low Newton, HMP Foston Hall, HMP Peterborough (Female) and HMP Bronzefield as well as HMP New Hall.

It's a good wheeze for some.
How to pull the wool over the eyes of those in authority because those in authority are terrified of offending those who are transgender.
The point is, surely, that this product could be of interest to people who menstruate, ie pre-menopausal woman. As a post-menopausal woman, it is of no interest to me. So what's the problem? There is none.
I assume that as a woman who does not need sanitary products you would understand not to buy them so there is no problem with using the word women. While I was pregnant I understood that I didnt need to use sanitary products, I had no problem at that time with them being labelled for use as by women.
I agree flowershop the homophobia is breathtaking. That and the issues around children with autism are what made me sit up and take notice.
Exactly Varian.
Sex offenders whatever their gender need to be accommodated in special units, as they are either likely to commit acts of violence or be assaulted themselves. Most of them choose to be accommodated in such units. It should perhaps be compulsory. As I said before it is neither just nor reasonable to judge all trans women by the acts of a few.
As for special spaces I have asked before how would such people be prevented from entering a changing room, a gym or any other facility? Who is going to inspect them to see if they have a penis? Insisting that it is even possible to oversee these with complete confidence is just untrue. If we are talking about refuges I have said before that women who work in the field have said that their risk assessments rule out anyone being admitted, whatever their gender, who might be seen as a threat to other residents. I am happy to leave that in their hands.
I wish those busy arguing about this would turn their attention to the very real threats faced by all minority groups be it because of their gender, racial origin or religion. Patriachy divides and conquers, feminism embraces and unites.
Was is it ever thus when our mothers went into stores for that strange package which always seemed to be concealed in brown paper for some strange reason. In retrospect none of us could have possibly known that the subterfuge involved in the covert wrapping procedure was merely there to conceal the exclusionary word "woman"
