It seems we are going to be given the science with figures and graphs - live on TV but no questions taken, from what I've read. I'm not happy with the no-questions bit if it's true.

And then what? Seems all a bit stage-managed by the government …. I wish they would just say what measures we can expect instead of dragging it out.

Granless Mon 21-Sept-20 16:08:56

The Government will be kicked about whatever they do or say.

To counter some of the conspiracy theories being perpetrated on Gransnet by a poster, perhaps everyone might want to check out the claims for themselves:

Well said that woman!

I certainly wouldn't label you, Tillybelle. Be strong and stick up for what you believe.
They are still pushing the 'fear' factor as well as behavioral psychology now.
Some tend to use the word 'conspirator' because, just maybe, there is some truth there and they are afraid to even contemplate the idea.
The world's banking system is in collapse - the truth will OUT before too long.
Believe in yourself and don't let others influence what is your free choice.

They are damned if they do and damned if they don't i would like a update Weekley from the scientists prefer no media questions as they just twist what is said

I would appreciate a regular briefing from Chris Whitty and Patrick Vallance, without journalists asking repetitive and inane questions, perhaps fortnightly unless there is an issue to address in between. I would then like to see a government spokesperson following up a day later with any adjustment to the rules related to the science.
I do think the public need explanation for each rule. The six person rule indoors especially needed explaining re viral load.

Teddy111 Mon 21-Sept-20 18:21:18

Lock down worked before, the NHS was not overwhelmed.Masks, distance and hygiene. Nobody took our freedoms away. Some members of the public knew better and had parties, raves, protests, large crowds, all over the country. Now Covid is creeping up again. Boris was accused of not having lockdown soon enough. He has to do something now.Whatever he does ,will be seen to be wrong. He cannot leave it or risk filling the Nightingale hospitals.Covid is a killer for some and spreads quickly. The government must despair of how selfishly part of the nation has behaved.

lemongrove Mon 21-Sept-20 18:23:38

I agree LauraN that would seem an adequate response,
I realise that some like a daily report, but for me it would be OTT and surplus to requirements.?

lemongrove Mon 21-Sept-20 18:24:37

Good post Teddy??

growstuff Mon 21-Sept-20 18:27:59

Teddy The nation was told it should go back to office working, 8 million children should be crammed into classrooms and that it was people's duty to eat out. It didn't lead by example when Cummings diluted the rules and got away with it.

Unfortunately, there are still idiots who talk about masks as muzzles and think it's an infringement of personal liberty. There are those who think the figures are exaggerated or even a hoax. Any responsible government knows that it needs to lead not play for votes.

Clear concise without ambiguity information and action we are expected to take would be great! A uniformed approach across the UK is what is needed!

Do you think that the doubling of cases in 8 days is an issue, especially as the number is undoubtedly higher because those who can't get tested will include some positives?

I check the data almost daily anyway. Those briefings were a farce.

I expect Snopes has been infiltrated by a Soros/Gates conspiracy too! wink

LauraNorder Mon 21-Sept-20 18:45:57

Yes Growstuff I do consider it an issue, hence today’s briefing.
Good post Teddy.
Haz I agree that a UK wide approach would make sense but unfortunately the devolved governments like to prove they are in control. Having said that I do, on this issue only, admire Nicola Sturgeon, Pity she and Boris don’t work together on this.
Cue PaddyAnne with ak47

Thing is, we can choose not to drive a car, it’s hard to live a normal life and not be exposed to the virus one way or another.

jennilin Mon 21-Sept-20 19:26:50

Just in case stocking up on toilet rolls ... just joking . The situation is not serious yet but let us make sure it doesn't get serious . Most people don't want to believe the threat because of the inconvenience but it is a PANDEMIC ...that is not disputed. This is a new situation for us , a threat we never considered possible .. I think we have to follow the scientific advice even though the scientists are still working out the best route .. I don't know the answer and I suspect you don't so let's hope the scientists eventually work it out x

Callistemon Mon 21-Sept-20 19:28:27

I did think that could be claimed by someone as soon as I posted it, growstuff!

That would be preferable to all the waffle.
A factual statement by scientists.

The journalists can ask inane questions of the politicians.

Alegrias Mon 21-Sept-20 19:33:30

Great post jennilin

Barmeyoldbat Mon 21-Sept-20 19:58:18

My thought, for whats it worth, is that Boris will ask us older people to isolate and stay home as we tend to be the ones who end up in hospital and he is thinking of the NHS. He will close pubs and maybe put a curfew on everyone else.

I just don't know where the hell we are with the rules at the moment.

Really Tillybelle really?! What do you think Gates is doing?
Your posts do sound very much like conspiracy theories, although you are hiding them in amongst lots of high faluting verbiage.
