Anyone doing ‘Sober October’? I can’t decide ... 😕

Well, I’ve not had any wine or a G&T yet. So I can decide tomorrow!

What put me off (I’ve done ‘dry’ January before and once gave up alcohol for Lent - 48 days!) is someone once said it’s the people with a ‘problem’ who embrace this nonsense as moderate drinkers know they don’t need to do it anyway as they are more sensible.

What do you think?

I so dry January and for the last couple of years have done 100 days from 1st jan. A close friend mentioned she was doing stoptober and I thought oh I should do that. But I tend to agree with your friend. I think it makes you think about alcohol.

I have done dry January as part of new year resolutions to get fitter and slimmer, several times.

As for sober October no flipping way, I am restricted regarding seeing family and friends, cannot safely leave the Country and could be looking at another lockdown I’ll have a glass of chilled dry white, thank you.

It is sober-ish apparently!

Stuff sober October, I’m on a bender till December. wine

I did think about sober(ish) October.....for a nano second!

Charleygirl5 Thu 01-Oct-20 21:34:10

I drink so little it really does not affect me. I never touch spirits and I drink a maximum of two bottles of wine every 6 weeks or so. Not exactly queueing up for the AA.

Haha😁

Since September and this next week in October I have been living on antibiotics for various things, then I shall look forward to a few G&T’s later on.Cheers🍸

I don’t drink much anyway so it seems fairly pointless for me.

When I have eschewed any alcohol at all, eg for months after I had an accident, I felt no different from when I did have a drink, nor did I lose any weight, which was quite annoying! grin

Pantglas2 Thu 01-Oct-20 21:41:20

Argh Urmstongran - I’m just finishing my fortnight quarantine after leaving you caretaking carousing in Spain and have deliberately stayed ‘dry’!

There’s champagne 🍾with my name all over it for tomorrow night so, nope, nada, not on your nelly, senora 💃

lemongrove Thu 01-Oct-20 21:42:25

We found a bottle of Baileys ( unopened) from last Christmas at the back of the drinks cupboard last week, which cheered DH up no end.envy

Back of the drinks cupboard?

Ours stays out where we can keep an eye on it! grin

Don't drink much apart from the odd G & T but I have given up chocolate five days and counting 😢

EllanVannin Thu 01-Oct-20 21:51:11

Don't drink.

M0nica Thu 01-Oct-20 21:51:43

It is not people who have a problem who do these months, just people who feel they would benefit by drinking a bit less and these communal events make it fun.

I am another like SueDonim, I don't drink much anyway and also I tend to drink in fits and starts, nothing for 5 weeks but then go away for a few days and have two drinks a day while I am away. Having been away most of last week and with an empty diary for this month, I will probably not drink anything anyway.

SueDonim Thu 01-Oct-20 21:55:13

Yes, same here, Monica. We did have a bottle of wine over three nights last weekend. I was struggling to remember why, but I’ve just recalled it was because it was my birthday.

Chewbacca Thu 01-Oct-20 21:59:33

I'm tee total but with everything that I'm seeing and reading in the news now, I'm thinking that October might be a very good month for me to start having a few wine🍾🍷🍸🍹🍺🍻🥂🥃. In fact, I think giving up anything that provides any escapism from the current situation is to be robustly avoided. Cheers,

lemongrove Thu 01-Oct-20 22:13:23

Merlot 🤣

No point in giving up booze if you don’t normally over indulge. As with food/ chocolate etc it’s all good in moderation.

Pittcity Thu 01-Oct-20 22:13:53

I did it today.......

Bluebellwould Thu 01-Oct-20 22:19:28

Baileys goes out of date so check before quaffing. 😆

EllanVannin Thu 01-Oct-20 22:23:27

Alcohol and medication aren't good mixers.

I’d better give up the pills then grin
Seriously I don’t drink alone (that’s why I have a dog) no, actually find wine tastes quite different in company.
A wee single malt on the other hand .....🥃

LauraNorder Thu 01-Oct-20 22:38:40

‘I don’t drink alone, that’s why I have a dog’ Maw smile
I don’t have a drink problem, I drink, I fall over, no problem.

LauraNorder Thu 01-Oct-20 22:39:44

Hope the Argy isn’t closing for October!!
