Argon oil is excellent - however, use it sparingly otherwise you’ll end up with really oily hair.
Good Morning Sunday 21st June 2026
Do you have any favourite relaxing TV series or films?
My hair has gone so dry and tangled these last few weeks.
OMG ?
I got Himself to take a photo of the back for me just now so I could see it. It feels so dry and tangly and I wanted to see it up close.
The first picture is from the end of October and the second one, just tonight.
No haircut in between & I can’t get to a hairdresser right now. (same for everybody I know)
What do you think I should do?
I’m thinking apply some products. Like Argon oil ? or coconut oil ? and wrap it in a turban to absorb the conditioner. It shocked me to be honest.
Any suggestions please? I’d be grateful.
Argon oil is excellent - however, use it sparingly otherwise you’ll end up with really oily hair.
Hopefully not offending but your hair looks heavily bleached/highlighted. The winter weather conditions eg being indoors/central heating even heat from hobs/ovens all contribute to dtying out hair. Like other recommendations try Aussie shampoo and conditioner. They also do a 3 minute miracle one that gives good results. There is a tangle teaser type brush good for using in fragile hair. It's not the hard type bristle kind, it has soft flexible bristles and us a bit more expensive about £20 but is less harsh on hair. May be worth a go.
Philip Kingsley elasticiser. I have grey, curly dryish hair. Use this twice month and it works wonders..not cheap I know. I also use a tiny amount of serum on the ends before it gets dried.
Treat it inside and out, take a hair supplement, eat Brazil nuts ,salmon, avocado and olive oil, and use Philip Kingsley elastizer . This will work _ Dear reader I tried it!!!
I use Olaplex shampoo, conditioner and treatment once a month. It’s not cheap but a little goes a long way. Google it and see what you think. I take medication for my thyroid so it may be worth checking with your GP.
Aside from various conditioners others have mentioned, I would recommend the Wavy toothed detangler hair brushes. www.amazon.co.uk/MODA-RAINBOW-PADDLE-DETANGLE-BRUSH/dp/B01AMALZ10/ref=sr_1_45?dchild=1&keywords=wavy+toothed+detangler+hair+brushes&tag=gransnetforum-21&qid=1613126948&sr=8-45
Aussie 3 minute miracle
Try Integrity from Amazon. It's a professional range, brilliant. That pic of the back of your hair could be me without it!
I used the Aussie stuff but it made my hair fuzzy and aboriginal !
Went back to good old Head and Shoulders , using oil after washing and a tiny bit smoothed through after it was dry .
Aussie conditioner, excellent
Three mornings a week I melt a couple of tablespoons of coconut oil, apply them to my hair, cover with a plastic bag and leave for about an hour. Shower and condition (I would recommend the OGX products) and you'll start to see and feel the difference. Doing that has transformed my hair.
Coconut oil, pure - liquid not in block. Leave on every day, don't wash it off until you can't stand it any more. And yes, wrap with clingfilm. Use a paddle brush. Sleep on a silk pillow in future. My hair was far worse than yours before doing these things, worry ye not, it will be in fine fettle in no time.
Also keep putting it up in a bun after washing it will cause it to tangle more. Definitely go with good quality hair mask and sleep with it on.
I have fine, fly away hair and I use a mask www.qvcuk.com/Philip-Kingsley-Elasticizer-Duo-75ml.product.240571.html?sc=SRCH
If you don't like it you can send it back even after you have tried it. It does say to do a double wash to remove it from fine hair after you have left it on for as long as possible so the hair can absorb it.
A tip for anyone who may be thinking of visiting Australia post-Covid:
You can't buy Aussie Miracle products in Australia, so take some with you in your hold luggage!
??
I also use Aussie Shampoo and Conditioner for coloured hair. When my hair feels more flyaway than usual, I put a little bit of the conditioner with the shampoo when I wash it, rinse out, and then condition again.
Argan Secret Argan oil.
The hairdresser used it so I bought some and have used it ever since. It takes very little- one squirt , rub your hands together then run your hands over/through your hair . It leaves your hands soft as well.
Urmstongran if you do decide to use an oil treatment, remember that when you wash your hair to remove the oil, you should first put some shampoo on your DRY hair, then wet it and put a little more shampoo on. If you don't, it can be difficult to get all the oil out on the first attempt. Good luck.
Funnily enough, as well as any hairdressers out there, I did wonder today - are there any retired GP’s who might see the photos and posit an opinion?
You never know!

Just a thought Urmstongran........I am a little puzzled as to why you had the first photo taken when your hair was looking really healthy?
Sorry if you have already explained this earlir and I missed it
That week I’d had my hair colour done when in Spain (in foils) DannieRae and I was so pleased with it. I asked Himself (again, but this was only ever the 1st time) to photograph it so I could show the colour, which I was delighted with, to my sister.
In the past I’d had ‘warmer’ colours done in the UK which, in the Spanish sunshine had turned brassy - not a good look! But this ‘cooler’ ashy tint was perfect for out there.
and don't wash more often than every 5 days.
i would suggest you ditch the hairbrush, esp a bristle one.
try just using a very wide-toothed comb, with good rounded ends on the teeth, and comb through conditioner when washing.
try not to muss it up too much. and do not over rinse the conditioner, or could try a leave-in conditioner.
just comb through gently, and leave to dry naturally with a towel on your shoulders. don't use hair dryer.
Your hair looks quite fine like mine Urmstongran, and mine looks similar to your second picture after I have washed it if I haven’t started to gently comb it out while it’s still dampish!
My fine, straight hair has been the bane of my life so I am reading your answers with interest!
Do you bleach your hair? I hope you don't mind being asked.
Firstly, I would try coconut oil and conditioner.
If that doesn't work, colour it without bleach. Clairol Nice 'n Easy is the make I use and, at the moment, I am just colouring it brown so that, as the roots come through, it doesn't show too much.
The condition of my hair after using this product is very good. It's up to you of course but I don't think bleach is good for hair if used regularly.
Good luck.
Your hair doesn’t look very dry Urmstongran
I often use coconut oil as a mask leave in for about an hour.
I’ve found head and shoulders for coloured hair works brilliantly leaves hair feeling soft and shiny.
