My son is getting married in March. I am of course giving thought to my outfit. However I have not been keen to go shopping during the pandemic! Lockdown is probably round the corner now so shops will be closed. I am in my 70s and have taken great care during this difficult time. My daughter married 7 years ago and I bought a lovely outfit , felt a million dollars on the big day. I am tempted to wear it again , it does still fit although a few pounds off might be a good idea! Should I wear it again or is that inappropriate? My DH thinks it is an ok thing to do and I considering doing that? I would appreciate your thoughts please.

I'd wear your outfit again, the main thing is that you're at the lovely wedding.

highlanddreams Thu 23-Dec-21 13:52:59

definitely wear it again & as other have said change the accessories : hat/ jewellery/bag shoes/pretty scarf etc if you can and then it really will be a different outfit won't it ? Your son will be so happy to have you there to celebrate his special day & that's the most important thing.

My much loved grandmother wore exactly the same outfit to all 12 grandchildren's weddings spaced over 20 years, same hat, same bag, same shoes. And she looked wonderful!

after all said and done this thread has said it all by now.

Wear it again. Lots of ways to make it different. I can’t wear hats but there are lovely ones out there and get shoes to match and have fancy gel nails. Have a lovely day !

Another vote for wear it again.
You will feel good again, and enjoy your Sons Wedding, he will not notice or care I am sure.
Have a lovely day.

I loved my outfit for D1 wedding several years ago and would love to wear it when/if D2 gets married. I would have to run it past D2 first though, I’m not sure what she’d say, hopefully ‘yes it’s fine’.

Good ideas from Violet .smile

I wore the same jacket to my son and daughter's wedding, with a different dress. To be honest no one cared or noticed. I say go for it.

queenofsaanich69 Thu 23-Dec-21 15:52:13

Definitely wear it,marvellous it still fits, that avoids going into shops, saves money, also it might be hard to find one you like as much, now you have something nice to look forward to next year.

Your outfit will show up on both sets of wedding photos - not the best idea. Don't spend a fortune on something new, though. You can hire a really swanky outfit for a really reasonable amount.

I think you are all missing the point here, this is her daughters and sons wedding we are talking about not just wearing it again to another occasion. Children’s weddings are very special occasions and no royal would wear the same outfit for these occasions. I am quite certain. I wore a lovely dress for my sons wedding and have worn it again and again, but would never wear it again for my daughters wedding if I had one. Not unless I had a completely new take on it like a jacket of a different colour with matching Assessories. I am really surprised at your answers and wonder if you are really being honest with yourselves!

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 23-Dec-21 16:37:41

I’m being entirely honest. I would be delighted to have the opportunity to wear my lovely dress and jacket again. I couldn’t care less if people have seen it before. At this rate of wearing it just once cost per wear doesn’t bear thinking about.

Very well said Meryl.

When my sister and I got married in the same year, 2000, my Mum was in a wheelchair and shopping was difficult but she bought a beautiful matching skirt and jacket in plain pink and wore a contrasting floral blouse with it and a matching hat for my wedding in May She looked really elegant. At the next wedding in September she wore the same jacket. hat and shoes/handbag but changed to a contrasting pleated skirt picking out the pink with a plain cream top and a scarf to match the skirt. Again very elegant and typical of Mum’s thrift. No one said a word. You can always claim you are doing your bit for the environment as they are saying we should keep our clothes longer and not buy new!

I noted the comment above about what the Dad would wear and realised that my DH wore his kilt + accessories to every special occasion we attended eg. Weddings, Graduations, even a Royal Garden Party and looked wonderful, every time. I have 3 'posh frocks' that I love to wear given the chance and have worn many times with different accessories. Under pressure from colleagues and relatives. I bought an outfit specially for said Garden Party and felt uncomfortable in it all (very hot) day, particularly the stiletto heels which kept sinking into the lawns. Still wish I had worn one of my existing favourites, instead of something that was just not 'me'.

Riverwalk Thu 23-Dec-21 18:23:40

Personally I wouldn't wear the same outfit to the weddings of my sons - any other occasions would be fine.

But don't you need to discuss this with your future DIL? You don't want to be upsetting her mother by turning up in the same colour!

Caro57 Thu 23-Dec-21 19:41:40

Re-wear it but change your accessories, different coloured shoes, bag, hat etc.

GrannySquare Thu 23-Dec-21 19:46:27

Princess Royal et al wear the same outfits for several formal occasions over the years. It’s good enough for her…

Daftbag1 Thu 23-Dec-21 19:56:40

Why not ask your son, and maybe buy a new pair of shoes or bag which will make the outfit look totally different!

Shizam Thu 23-Dec-21 20:02:27

It’s a big yes from me to wear it again! Why not? Makes you feel good, so you will feel happy on the day. ?

Kryptonite Thu 23-Dec-21 21:56:22

Yes. Wear it.

Doug1 Thu 23-Dec-21 23:58:28

One of my daughters got married a few years ago and the outfit was expensive and only worn the once but there is no way my other daughter who is getting married in May would want me to wear the same outfit. Luckily she has already told me that she wants to pay for the new outfit. So looking forward to choosing something new as the venues are totally different

Nanniejude Fri 24-Dec-21 07:40:54

Sorry but I disagree, I wouldn’t dream of wearing the same outfit! Your mother of the bride, hopefully once in a life time. Shops are open or buy on line. You could always try selling your previous outfit to help fund a new one!
