Are You A Negative Person

I have recently been told that I am a negative person

I definitely don't see myself that way. I have come through a lot in my life and feel that if I couldn't see the positives I would not still be standing.

So I don't really know why I was called that. I do admit though that I feel more comfortable dealing with criticism rather than some one saying something nice

I try to be positive and see there is a reason for everything. Sometimes it is hard going then a GD says something and I laugh and I'm positive again. I am lucky I have a very positive DH who says I have got more negative and confrontational since joining Gran's net. Yah boo to him.grin

I'm positive and appreciative of small things but pessimistic about large things.

Surely we are all a mixture and can’t be defined as a “positive” or “negative” personality. Situations change and so do we.

This.

I think I am in the middle. I am good in a crisis but like to prepare for every eventually before I can be entirely positive about something. My DH is always positive which helps me.

I consider myself a positive person. My husband, on the other is pessimistic, his negativity can get me down sometime. When I complained about it, he will say that he is not negative just realistic.

Encouraged and kind of pushed my daughter to move to the city because I could see that his negativity is beginning to rub off on her.

I think I have probably become more negative as I get older. I tend to take the view that if you expect the worse, then anything more than that is a bonus.

I am a positive person, but my DH the exact opposite.

Exactly the same here Marydoll

That's us too.

Thats exactly how I feel and DH's response is the same.

I’m irritatingly positive. A real Pollyanna. Always have been.
As I’ve gotten older I do have health anxiety but apart from that I’m a cheerful soul. My mantra is that 9 times out of 10 our worst fears never materialise. We have much to be grateful for. The war in Ukraine has highlighted that for me.

Good luck finding your sunny equilibrium again GG13. Summer sunshine will help too. x

varian Thu 21-Apr-22 13:44:24

I don't remember you being positive about the EU, UG - irritating maybe, positive - definitely not.

Urmstongran Thu 21-Apr-22 13:49:21

That’s because I was outstandingly positive about BREXIT varian!
???

I always have an inner faith that things will turn out right in the end. They usually do, at least up to now. When things go wrong that is when we learn I suppose.

rockgran Thu 21-Apr-22 14:18:44

I prefer to be considered pragmatic. Life is not all sunshine and sometimes we have to be realistic rather than just hopeful.

Bellanonna Thu 21-Apr-22 14:40:41

I do get weighed down sometimes by DH’s negativity and my then good and cheerful disposition quickly dissolves. If I say look at that lovely blue sky he will look for (and find) some clouds. When we used to go for lovely country walks and I waxed lyrical about the views, the trees, the lambs in the fields and just the general loveliness, he would just say “Yes”.
It seems from this thread to be that men are more negative, but they probably are more realistic. I try to look on the bright side maybe to negate any fears or worries I might otherwise have. I really don’t know. Maybe I’m just trying to push away what would otherwise be anxieties. Badly explained, but I know what I mean!

Joseanne Thu 21-Apr-22 15:07:29

No surprises, I am a positive, happy and optimistic person. I genuinely feel like I am walking on sunshine.

Kim19 Thu 21-Apr-22 15:20:08

And it's a positive from me. Urm, you stirring again?!!

grannyactivist Thu 21-Apr-22 15:41:52

I’m a pragmatic realist who looks for the positive in difficult situations in order to make hard times bearable. People see me as a sort of ‘Pollyanna meets glass-half-full optimist’, but what they don’t see is the process by which I move on from difficulty to acceptance, to positivity.

(Thinking this through with only a half-working brain wasn’t easy. ?)

Kim19 Thu 21-Apr-22 15:43:43

Well...... it made me smile so..... thank you!

icanhandthemback Thu 21-Apr-22 15:49:23

nadateturbe, you summed up what I was thinking when considering the sort of person I am. If I had to plump for one over the other, I would say I am slightly more positive than negative but I think that is because I am in a much better position than I was as a younger person. I was far more negative then but I think when bad things keep happening, for whatever reason, it is difficult to stay positive!

nadateturbe Thu 21-Apr-22 16:27:28

When things go wrong that is when we learn I suppose.
That has been my recent experience

when bad things keep happening, for whatever reason, it is difficult to stay positive!
It is, it must be awful to lose hope completely

Same in our house. Every comment he makes is from a negative standpoint. It’s beginning to irk somewhat, after 55 years…. I think we’ll last the course, even so.

VioletSky Thu 21-Apr-22 16:38:26

Positive

I had an awful childhood, lots of emotional abuse etc and although it can cause the opposite I'm quite resilient.

Tend to just bounce back, dont hold grudges, forgive easily and always try to have positive relationships with people.

I think unless they are outright abusive there is something to like about most people.

Im a bit of a yes person and always say yes when possible and sometimes need to say no for my own good.

The only downside is that I build up my stress and then it all comes out at once sometimes and I just crash. Thankfully after I've dealt with the situation and usually the crashes don't last long

lovebeigecardigans1955 Thu 21-Apr-22 16:40:24

I hope I'm not negative. I often find that mostly life balances out - if a bad thing happens sometimes something good negates it, if only in a small way to compensate.

Kate1949 Thu 21-Apr-22 16:43:54

That's it exactly. When bad things keep happening, how can you be optimistic? Any tips welcome.
