I don't watch football but I watched the semi by accident and watched the final by design. Great game and I am so pleased they won and I'm still smiling!

It’s the best match I’ve seen in ages. Close match, great competition but our women were the better team. What great role models, so happy, singing, dancing, cheering the crowd, thanking their families, thanking the coach, the fans - it doesn’t get better ?

Very well done to the Lionesses, a brilliant result.

What encouragement this gives to young girls who play football. I have a ten year old granddaughter who plays on a Saturday and loves it.

We should all feel very proud tonight xxx

Absolutely nerve racking! ?.
Brilliant result. We’ll done Lionesses! ?

I am not a fan of women's football but I watched the match tonight and thoroughly enjoyed it. I could have done with less commentary but the result was fabulous and well deserved.

Real role models, real boobs, no fillers and not flagged in makeup- beautiful

I meant clagged - you know what I mean.

Gosh, what a tense extra time, just praying Germany wouldn’t score. Great game, wonderful result, felt quite emotional and as others have said, I’m no football fan. Loved the way William hugged some of the players (or maybe they hugged him first?’)

I rarely watch football but was totally gripped by this match. Great role models for both young girls and many of our highly paid male footballers.

What on earth do women have to achieve before we stop commenting on their appearance.

what a fast moving game! and we won.

Patsy70 Sun 31-Jul-22 21:36:35

A fantastic result. Congratulations to the whole team and their coach for bringing home the cup. It was such an exciting game. So encouraging for all our young female footballers. ?????????

Fleurpepper Seems I'm not the only one to consider the colour of the shorts. One of the players, Beth Mead has spoken about how this has been discussed and fed back to Nike. White shorts could be a worry for menstruating players.

Brilliant result though, well done Lionesses.

Well done ladies! I’m not a great football fan, but these women are an inspiration to youngsters everywhere. I couldn’t watch the extra time it was so nail biting. I cried when the final whistle went. Absolutely wonderful!

icanhandthemback Sun 31-Jul-22 22:29:08

I shed a tear too. I'm not a great fan of football, much prefer hockey, but I was really glad I watched the game. I thought it was brilliant that Prince William was so warm towards everyone. I can't imagine Charles being so touchy feely!

Loads of women’s teams have white shorts. Apart from time of the month if you play on grass white shorts can be very difficult to get clean. As the person who washed the kit I vetoed white shorts for our team.

Fantastic win tonight. I thought we’d thrown it for a bit when the Germans were all over us and scored the equaliser. Then in extra time we found the energy to score the winning goal and keep possession until the final whistle. Well done England.

Great not to hear about violent, drunk fans unlike the men’s final.

grannydarkhair Mon 01-Aug-22 04:12:45

Not a football fan, but hearty congratulations to the team. Wonderful role models for young girls.

And then Gary Lineker posts this ? couldn’t he just have congratulated the team on their wonderful win without a truly asinine attempt at a joke?

I am no more interested in women’s football than I am in men’s football. I’m all for equality and women doing what they want, but to me it just means more boring football on television. Sport should have its own channel.

And please, playing and winning a football match is not ‘history’.

Iam64 Mon 01-Aug-22 07:41:47

Oh don’t be such a misery Grandma70. Don’t join in, don’t watch it and Yes, playing and winning this match is indeed ‘history’
Women played football during ww1 but the FA banned women’s games. It’s been a long time coming but the women’ s game is growing. Last night’s game has brought a lot of joy to so many people - hurrah

I beg to differ it’s sporting history in the making.
