Ask a gran

Should men have their own “Gramps Net” ?

I love to read Micks “Good Morning “ thread, Mick is a Gentleman in every sense of the word.

I rarely engage with men on GN, I took exception to a couple of men who were very crude and misogynistic.

I feel it is most unusual for a man to join a predominantly female space.
If for example my husband said he wanted to become part of the GN community I would be very against him joining. .

I realise there could be many men on here that we assume to be women but would you post more freely or discuss more intimate matters if this were a female forum only?

Do you think men should have their own site?

Yes troll hunting always ends badly, it is very tempting and am sure I have probably at one time done it myself, (I pretty much disbelieve every family drama thread), but it's pointless.

VioletSky Sat 27-Aug-22 16:30:50

Weren't the concerns that he was someone else? If so, won't both be gone?

I'm sorry but I still don't think it was right what happened on that thread. I thought "Troll hunting" was against guidelines

Also it is a shame it is gone, it could have helped someone, especially with the cost of living crises

Lots of threads get accused of being "false" in the comments...

Hirting a target once doesn't mean its fine to go in all gun blazing

The message said GNHQ had concerns.

Callistemon21 Sat 27-Aug-22 16:29:53

Oh, was that the meals thread?

All my helpful hints gone?

AGAA4 Sat 27-Aug-22 16:29:35

Crikey! I didn't realise but neither did others I suppose.

This VioletSky

Well, well.
Perhaps apologies are due to those who first flagged up their concern?

What does the message say? I can’t make it clear enough to read and am curious.

Welcome Egwin

Here is a link to a very pleasant, happy thread that I started, which shows how good Gransnet can be.

I don't know whether it will be of interest to you or not, but here is the link anyway.

I like Gransneton the whole, and I am a man, I wouldn't want a separate men's group.

However, I have had an unpleasant experience of being ganged up on - led by Germanshepherdsmum - it certainly made me thin it would be best to go.

But I have just retired and have planned Gransnet should be a support to me - and I will try to help too. I will see how it goes.

Glad to see you back Egwin. I think we need more men posting.
Sorry you had a bad experience last time you were on Gransnet.

muse Sat 27-Aug-22 14:32:08

I glad you didn't go Egwin and I look forward to seeing your posts and threads.

I, personally, see no need for a separate site for men.

Not seeing Rufus posting is sad. I miss his wicked sense of humour.

Welcome Egwin! smilebrew
I will catch up with your thread, as I haven’t seen it yet.
Don’t be afraid to post - when I first joined I initially had rather a rocky ride!

I miss Rufus, we used to chat about football.

Me too. He used to chat on the Night Owls thread. He would flirt terribly with Kim19!
He recommended The Oldie magazine to me, and I now subscribe to it.
Every time I read it I think of Rufus

Jaxjacky Sat 27-Aug-22 12:34:17

You’re very welcome Egwin we are a mixed bag.

Jackiest - the preview button is very useful as somehow it's easier to see mistakes when you see your post as it will appear on thread. You can then edit before finally posting.
Sorry to be a bore if you know that already?

It would be handy if they had a button to edit afterwards.

Sometimes, it's hard to see in a preview, but then it's obvious after posting.?

But, it was all light hearted anyway.?

I would never stop men posting but would it be OK if we said no Blonds. We do have standards to keep up.

I’m blonde, but after that obvious discrimination, I might need counselling…??

Or maybe not lol ?

Sorry. Glad you are really offended.
I was just trying point out how silly it is to stereotype and to discriminate against someone.

Just as it is wrong to exclude blonds it is also wrong to exclude men.

No worries.,.I'm used to being insulted.

I'm married lol ?

I did quickly realise I had meant to say "Glad you are NOT really offended" and posted a correction.

I really should read through my posts before posting them as there is no edit button.

He was certainly blond, StarDreamer ! Loved the song. I always enjoy those Andre Rieu concerts.

Callistemon21

I hope you're not blond as well, StarDreamer!
