Thermal underwear

Natural fibres are always warmer. Silk, wool or cotton underwear is available but not cheap.

You need fleece! Not glamorous & not good for the environment but warm. Indoors, I wear thermal top & bottoms, trousers, fleece ¼ zip, an oversized hoodie & a hat. The oversized hoodie is to keep knees & upper legs warm, when the weather improves a bit I'll swap that for a full zip fleece. The hat is on & off throughout the day (thanks to 25 years of hot flushes!).

Rather than a Tee shirt I would wear a long sleeved cotton top.
Also see if you can get your bloods checked as you could have Hyperthyroidism. One of the main effects is feeling cold. Especially if you have put on any weight. Take care and keep warm.

Merino wool base layers are good - like this from Mountain Warehouse. If you wear something similar with a wool jumper on top, you should be warm? Fingerless (wool) gloves indoors too?

My DH wears these outdoor and in. Very good quality, can be just chucked in the normal dark wash.

I'm often cold and my vests are getting to the end of their lives, so I'm interested in the suggestions. Merino wool might not be suitable as I find all wool irritating.

One thing I did think of, which might help you ExDancer, is a heated gilet.

Asda do nice short long sleeved thermals nice and light but warm and good value.

I absolutely sympathise I am wearing a thermal vest, a long sleeved T shirt and a roll neck “poncho” style jumper.
And don’t get me started on night attire . As somebody said on Twitter, you could go backpacking for a month with fewer clothes than she is currently wearing in bed.
Just pile on the layers and be comfortable

As someone who has worked outside in all weathers, I also recommend wool base layers. I don’t find wool itchy but I was under the impression that Merino wool was different.

In addition to thermal vests and thick fleecy tights I wear cashmere wrist warmers indoors as well as outside and they really seem to help keep me warm.
The wrist warmers are from a company called Turtle Doves and are made of recycled cashmere from jumpers etc. They also make fingerless gloves, hats, and wraps in beautiful colours.

I don’t find merino wool itchy. The base layers (there are pants as well as tops) are very fine wool and lightweight, but warm. DH wears them to go mountain walking in winter.

They make battery operated heated clothing, I recently bought heated socks and gloves. They are amazing!

M&S sell merino mix baselayers.
My husband likes them.

Beware of heated clothing (battery operated) if you have a pacemaker check that the one you are considering is safe with a pacemaker as some are not.

I bought some thermals from sainsburys which are very comfy but I think I needed the next size down and my long johns keep falling down underneath my trousers

I have both long sleeved and sleeveless thermal vests from M&S and on the one occasion I thought a T shirt under a jumper “might” do I was sorely disappointed.
(I even wear them under pj’s in bed.

I can't wear any type of wool without severe itching and a rash. JaneJudge, I like thermals a size too big, anyway, as it traps more warm air - and doesn't restrict circulation. I just take the waist and ankles in with a few tacking stitches.

Still, I wear them for outings - but indoors here (in a big, draughty old house) a double layer of loose fleece PJ bottoms is the most blissfully comfortable thing to wear, along with layered tops and gilets, easy to add or take off depending on how active I am.

I have knitted ankle warmers for my chilly, skinny ankles and I'll wear a scarf and hat, too, if I'm still cold. I really love my electric blanket so I've just ordered a heated throw for when I'm sitting - as that's when I can soon feel chilly. It won't take long to pay for itself if I keep the heating on low:

I can’t wear wool next to the skin but I buy Heatgen from M&S to wear under fleece joggers from Lands End and any fleece top I choose. Those, with thermal socks, keep me warm throughout the day. I also wear a fleece gilet over the lot if it’s particularly cold.

Ex-dancer, none of the garments you mention warms your feet, legs, head, or neck.
