Have you got Just3words on your phone or a green bottle in the fridge?

If you have then have you ever needed them?
I went along to an evening to brush up on my CPR Defibrillator skill last night. The Air Ambulance volunteer mentioned both of the above.
I’m definitely going to list details of my blood group and medical history and pop it in the fridge but not so sure about the app. Part of me thinks why not ? Part of me is reluctant to put anything else on my phone that knows where I am.

I’ve never heard of either.

GN is so good at this sort of information. Like JL knickers.

I will explore as DH is on lots of meds etc.

Thank you

Actually just done the bottle, now need to find my phone😄

On the face of it the green container seems a good idea, but wouldn’t the green sticker on the front door just highlight to burglars that an elderly person lives there, thereby making them a target?

The advice is to put it on the inside of the front door.

At one time, they were available in pharmacies and some gp surgeries.

I have 3 words on my phone but haven’t used it yet.

Not heard of the Green bottle but what a great idea. I would definitely use it in the future if we ever take any medications and will tell my in-laws about it.

The Lions have always been a big thing around here and I’ve just seen that there are 29 branches in our county, and one branch is 400 yards from my in-laws.

There are Lions Clubs in Germany too. They are very active (at least our local ones are). I doubt if they have the green bottle system, though.

What 3 words is fine, but here the words are German and I often wonder if that would be any good to a foreigner, and could lead to misunderstandings through wrong pronunciation - this would also apply in other countries as the words are always presumably in the vernacular. I once looked up my address on w3w but I've forgotten it. Delivery drivers are not usually German and can hardly speak the language, so I can't imagine it would be much use here. Also there are strict rules for addressing properties and navigation is fairly straightforward. If you're out in the sticks - say, in the woods or on a heath - it may help, but both parties would have to be native speakers.

Here is a photo of part of the page that comes up on the Lions site when you goggle ‘green bottles in the fridge’

I think they are actually called Message in a Bottle.

I have all that medical info for emergency use accessible on my phone which is important when out and about.

How would the medics access that info?

shysal Sat 22-Apr-23 10:35:13

Thank you for informing me about the Lions message in a bottle scheme. I have ordered one on line by using this web page
lionsclubs.co/Public/messsage-in-a-bottle/

Farzanah Sat 22-Apr-23 11:03:51

Medics can access via emergency on front screen without accessing rest of phone, as long as you have inputted your medical info & contact numbers etc.

I’ve never heard of that bottle in the fridge thing but I live alone and I’ve got an iPhone I’ve got my blood type and all my medication my next of kin my drs allergies etc all in my iPhone anyone who is emergencies services can bypass your face id etc and get into your phone and read it all. After all you always have your phone on you and mine as being tested and help the ambulance crew.

But if your phone has run out of charge !!!

kittylester Sun 23-Apr-23 17:58:31

Or you don't have it.

I seem to think I have seen these little tub things in the Chemist, I think you put a donation in a box and took one of the tubs and put you medication piece of paper inside it. I must ask at the chemist.

kittylester Sun 23-Apr-23 19:25:13

There is a form inside to fill in with details of your nefications, allergies, people to call in an emergency etc.

Farzanah Sun 23-Apr-23 20:39:47

You do need emergency info accessible on your phone too. Bottle in fridge no good when you’re out and about alone.

After trying to gather together medication for an elderly lady in my flats to give to the Paramedics when they needed to take her to hospital later one night, I made a typed list of mine, and where each is kept in my home. Added to this items I would require for a short hospital stay and that sheet of paper is in an envelope marked - 'In event of emergency admittance to hospital, please read', and on my Notice Board in my hallway.

I have a green bottle in the fridge but it contains a rather nice wine …

Ditto

Ditto in fact one half from yesterday and one for tonight.

These little pots/green bottles are not just for elderly people! There are many people who take important medication.

Did anyone suggest that?

Yammy Mon 24-Apr-23 10:13:54

Joking apart we have a list of medications in our hospital grab bags but one on my phone would be handy as I have recently developed an allergy to an antibiotic I have had to take for years. It actually gave me an anaphylactic shock reaction and I had to go on a Friday evening to a Chok hospital, I should really carry the name of the one I can tolerate which I can't even remember.
Medical notes in the fridge would be a good idea as well.

dogsmother Mon 24-Apr-23 10:36:15

I don’t have the fridge container but was well aware, not through Leo’s but being medically minded.
Lions also have Leo for younger adults who also do amazing work themselves, I speak as a proud parent.

I have just spoken to a community nurse about the green container in the fridge, she had never heard of it. You would think as a medic going into people's homes she would have known if it was something a lot of people have.

I have heard of the lions but not the green thing in the fridge.
