About what to do immediately after my DH sadly dies this coming night.
Sorry to be blunt. I want to be practical before we reach the inevitable. Please don't join in if you find this upsetting.
I am writing here because everyone else in my family will be asleep when the inevitable happens.

I am overwhelmed by the level of support and kind words here. Thank you everyone.
It has been a busy day, with family here, many calls, texts, cards and flowers.

I slept well but have been busy on and off all day searching for a will. I only found drafts of old ones in the files. Just found two metal strong boxes but both are locked. A search for keys has only produced clock keys. Looks like I’ll need a locksmith, but then there is no guarantee they contain a will.
There is so much stuff in his study. He had begun a sort out, and started to reorganise his filing system, shredded loads just last week. Then there are drawers full of cables, gadgets and gizmos, and much more. But so far, no will, and no box keys.

Cabbie you've been on my mind so it is good to see this update. I can only imagine what you are going through but really appreciate you sharing. I know that I would be in the same position if anything were to happen so will heed your message as a warning to address some things soon.
Please take care of yourself. flowers

Is there a copy of the will with your solicitor, Cabbie?

Germanshepherdsmum Sat 29-Apr-23 17:21:30

You’ve been in my thoughts too.
At least this search is keeping your mind occupied and giving you a purpose. Might the original will be with the solicitor who prepared it?
God bless. 💐

Maybe, maybe not originally, but that firm was taken over by another- and though I have requested and retrieved my will, they have not located DH’s

Cabbie, I'll think of you tonight.

Caleo Sat 29-Apr-23 17:57:47

Maye the most recent old will however roughly written will do just as long as it's signed and dated.

I had a similar situation Cabbie a few years back where the new firm could not find fil’s will. After mention of the Law Society they suddenly found it. I expect GSM May be able to tell you more.
