Can't find my favourite toilet rolls

I've always bought Cushelle quilted toilet rolls, and as far as I know I still buy Cushelle quilted toilet rolls. But either they've changed or I'm picking up the wrong ones.
I hope this photo illustrates what I mean.
The sheet on the right has what I call 'quilting' - criss/cross pockets of air(?) and quite thick and strong.
The ones I keep getting seem to be in the same wrapper with a tiny picture of 'cross/cross' quilts, but when I open them they are thin poor quality - and quite different.
(thank goodness I only got a pack of 9 this time.
What have I missed?

You have bought Cushelle original instead of Cushelle quilted.

Apparently they changed to inferior quality a while ago.

You must've been lucky up to now buying old stock.
I use Aldi quilted which is good quality at a low price.

Does anyone really want their bottom to smell of rhubarb and raspberry?

Even if the core is delicately scented?🤔

Some matters have passed me by.

What a first world problem! 🤣

Callistemon21 Fri 15-Sep-23 16:06:14

I thought Cushelle toilet rolls had koalas on them which gently wiped your bottom!

M0nica Fri 15-Sep-23 18:47:06

Quokka So what? Feel better now?

Plumbers will tell you that thick quilted loo paper is a real pipe clogger.

As I am reading my way through this thread 11,000 -yes eleven thousand -people have died and thousands more are missing in Derna.
Yes, we don’t know when we’re well off do we.

Thank you Foxygloves you’ve kind of nailed it!

And no M0nica I’m still pretty upset by the news coming out of North Africa.

Talking about toilet paper is a distraction from all the bad news, so don't knock it.

I also prefer quilted because the others seem very thin and tear easily. But I think all toilet papers seem to be getting thinner and the sheets getting smaller. I thought to try Andrex quilted and the size of the roll was much smaller than my previous brand. Has Andrex always been made for tiny bottoms?

The rolls are also getting smaller, but not costing less.

I found a half width roll in a multi pack, it must be made for toddlers!

It's still in the cupboard for emergencies.

Just be grateful it isn’t rationed!
At the “Damentoiletten” in Potsdam some years ago a fierce looking attendant dished out single sheets of loo paper on the way in.
Yes, , just one sheet each and it was that dreadful grey corrugated stuff Germany used to be (in)famous for 😱😱😱😱😱

Be prepared (old Brownie motto.)

You never know when there’ll be an emergency Callistemon.

There is absolutely nothing I can do about the Moroccan or Libyan victims apart from donate to the Red Cross which I did straightaway. I hope you have done as well Quokka.

Do you suggest we close Gransnet down? For a day a month a year forever!??

Callistemon21 Sat 16-Sep-23 10:08:52

I do remember when there was a supposed toilet roll shortage in the UK in the 1970s?
When they arrived back on the shelves they had more or less doubled in price.

It was apparently an artificial shortage anyway as my SisIL, who worked for a large distribution company, said one of their warehouses was full of toilet rolls.

We are human beings. Human beings like to talk about all sorts of things, both good and bad, serious and mundane, etc, etc. That doesn’t mean people are unaware or care little about the tragedies going on in this world of ours. Do you never engage in small talk yourself Quokka? Oh, and Foxygloves, you have absolutely no idea what individual GN’s are or have endured. For all you know, some here may have family/friends who are victims of the devastation in Libya, Morocco, Ukraine,Afghanistan, etc.
Sometimes, inconsequential chatter is just what is needed.
On that note, yes, I’ve noticed loo roll has become thinner quality and smaller in size.

My kitchen floor should be smelling of rhubarb from a new cleaner I bought.

We have Libyan friends who luckily escaped many years ago and cut contact with everyone for safety's sake.I hope their relations are safe. I'm not declaring what we are.
I do agree with what Ziplok says and yes I have been advised by plumbers never to use quilted toilet paper after having to have a patio dug up to access blocked drains,

There’s small talk and there’s smaller talk ….
