I'm looking for good quality medium firmness pillows that last for more than a couple of months.
Any suggestions please?

This is a question that has been asked before. I am happy with the John Lewis pillows, but there were many other recommendations.

My pillows are years old, none are expensive and if I need more lift I add another.
My latest are from Aldi, they are my favourites. About 4 y ears old now nice quality and doing well.
Many people think the more you pay the better you get but that’s not been my experience.

I would like to buy new Pillows but how should I dispose of current ones. I wouldn't take them to charity shops, nor do I want to send them to landfill. I can't think of any way to recycle them. A quandary.

I’ve also had Aldi pillows and they are great. They come in a quilted zipped cover so you can remove or adjust the filling.

I’ve been very pleased with Dorma pillows from Dunelm. They have 100% cotton covers, too, not synthetic, which makes me too hot.

Unwanted bedding/linens can be recycled at some branches of Dunelm and also Tesco.

aldi and lidl have excellent bedding, and most other things too.
but only about twice a year.
you can check the weekly specials online.
B&M have a large selection also.
i just put old pillows in the dustbin.
can't worry about everything.

I bought two new pillows (firm, just Mr PG likes ‘em) from M&S.

Marthajolly - I have repurposed the old ones by stuffing them into bottle green cotton pillowcases and using them on my outdoor bench in summer! Thicker than the usual bench cushions and washable covers to boot!

Finally found a pillow that my husband likes! Parachute is the name of the company. They are not cheap. They are so perfect. Goose down....ahhh

Slumberdown Wonderful Wool, after many many new pillows this is the one that doesn't give me a sore neck. Pure bliss.

I went back to feather pillows after years of trying to unmangle DH's synthetic pillow. At least with feathers I can bash it into submission!

Dorma, most definitely.

I have scoliosis in my neck and find a comfortable pillow almost impossible to find, I've tried them for a couple of pounds up to a hundred pounds. The only ones that came close were GX suspense pillows, they do a medium soft and a medium firm. I used the medium soft but most recently they have been firmer than I like so the first thing I did was open up a seam and remove some of the filling and I am managing with that. My problem is I need supportive but soft and all the orthopaedic pillows I've tried are just too firm.

I have the GX suspense pillow too and I am having a good nights sleep. I have the medium soft and use just one pillow, although when I recently had a chest infection I boosted the height with my old bamboo pillow which I loved, but it was getting so old.

I buy fogarty pillows. They keep their shape and they washable too

icanhandthemback Thu 11-Jan-24 13:17:21

I think to get the right pillow, you need to work out exactly what you want based on the type of sleeper you are. Are you a side sleeper or back sleeper or tummy sleeper? Are you a hot head? Many of the suppliers of good quality pillows will give you a certain amount of time to test it and the ability to return it if it is not correct for you. Just Google and you'll get an idea of what you need.

Look at soakandsleep.com. A range of pillows. I use the microfibre filled ones which are brilliant

123kitty Thu 11-Jan-24 13:49:47

I can’t sleep on an old pillow after reading they could be infested with mold, mildew, fungus, dust mites and mite feces. I’m ashamed to say the old pillows go to landfill, but what else can be done with them?

I have recently splashed out for a "purple Harmony Grid Hex". And yes, they are very very expensive, but it is the first time ever I have been comfortable with a pillow.
It's springy and has no indentation where my head rests every day, it just springs right back up again.
I've had it 4 month now and it's been a blessing. I expect it to last me for years.
Only downside is the steep price but I got one in an auction for a fraction of the price.

I've just bought some that can be washed in the washing machine and they are very nice.

4allweknow Thu 11-Jan-24 14:16:02

Dunlopillow Latex . I have used these for years. They can be washed easily on a gentle cycle or by hand but definitely need a spin to finish. They aren't the cheapest but last for ages, keep their shape with no lumps or dents. Also they seem to stay at a cool level in use.
