My 95 year old father is in a wonderful care home. They have armchair keep fit every morning at 11, followed by a sherry. They have a glass of wine with their lunch at 12.30. He has another glass with his cheese and crackers at 5.30. Is he happy? Very! I'm putting my name on the waiting list 😅🤣😅

I'm soon to turn 60 ...and although I barely drink currently due to meds ... I'm wondering ... Am I a "very elderly one " ?🤷🤔

When my dear father was admitted into a Hospice in his last days there was a drinks trolley which would be wheeled out every evening for all the patients to have 'whatever they wanted'.

This reminds me of when I was a chef in a hospice. One of the Nursing Assistants would come down most afternoons asking for a big bowl of ice-cream. One day I finally asked her what she was doing.

"Making a Baileys and Ice-cream for the patients".

Got to the point where we'd actually run out of ice cream. And Baileys!!

I only buy wine for culinary purposes, - think bolognese, posh shepherds pie/fish pie, I don’t enjoy the mouth feel or the sleepy sometimes head-achey effect. I have taken a liking to Zinfandel or pink Cava though.
In the fridge currently sit Baileys, Warninks and Malibu just awaiting their moment…. Oh and a Summer Pimms with “everything but the kitchen sink” in a tall glass 😋

My 94 year old dad has a wine glass full of sherry before lunch and two very large whisky and gingers before dinner. He’s also let slip that if he feels down he has a shot of brandy in his early morning tea. He dozes a lot in the chair 🤣 I worry that one day he’ll fall and can’t get through to him that the more he drinks in the evening the more he’ll have get up for the bathroom during the night. But as he says he doesn’t have many pleasures left so I cross my fingers and take a deep breath!

So, OP what is your definition of elderly?

Lots of people keep asking this. I think it was 81 (unless I'm confused 🥂🍾🍷

I don’t think of myself as elderly lol - but I love a couple of glasses of Pinot in the evening.🥂🥂

I’ve got no desire to live a lie without pleasure, so I can end up in a care home at age 96 or something.😗
