There are more measures to help stop them on mobiles, but no magic formula.
I think landlines are more often used as it's mostly older people who still use them.

It is much easier to block unwanted numbers on a mobile than a landline. I installed Callblocker on mine and if I get one of these numbers it is immediately blocked. I get very few such nuisance calls now, but if I look in my call history there are quite a few calls that say Blocked Number and Suspected Spam that have not come through to me.

The only time I use my landline is to ring my mobile when I can’t find it.

My mobile, which isn't particularly fancy, has the facility to automatically screen calls from numbers it recognises as spam. It also can give me the choice to reject a call that l think is spam and it will tell the caller to state what they want and a transcript is stored in my phone for me to read.
There is also a facility for me to block any numbers I don't want to receive calls from.
It's all much simpler than it sounds.

Im not a lover of smart phones - never have been. Mine is smart enough to stay out of the way unless I need it. Ive downloaded at least 2 apps recently which will not workon the phone. Fortunately they do work on the tablet.

I do have a landline and BT turned it over to digital voice. My ol;d phones would no longer work properly, Many of the features I liked (such as blocking calls, call list etc) disappeared so I have bought 2 new phones. However I did charge them to the business as a tax deductable as Id had them several years and were probably due for replacement.

I will cling to my landline as long as I can,.
I have an answerphone and if I am not in anyone can leave a message and I will return the call.
If I am out I am busy and I do not want my mobile phone to be ringing at inconvenient times. I do check regularly for text messages but my mobile is mainly for my use when necessary.

You can silence your mobile phone at any time so it does not ring at inconvenient times.

You can easily block all nuisance calls!

You seem not to know your mobile phone has all these features and more. Once you know and get set up (it’s also an alarm clock!) you’ll see a landline is useless - especially during a power outage. (Then your cell phone is your ONLY emergency backup.)

It’s more than just a texting thing. And don’t go to bed without having it on your bed stand each night. Important for seniors. (Don’t forget you can silence it… but still make outgoing calls.)

Moved in 2021 & decided to only have broadband telephone. We have 2 mobiles. 1 Asda PAYG & 1p mobile PAYG, mostly use Whatsapp for calls when at home so average costs for 2 phones around £8 a month.

We don't seem to get the scam calls that we were always getting on the landline.

Son told me we don’t need it. He was right.

I use my landline to phone my sister in America. I'm on Sky Talk and can speak with her for up to 59 minutes (free, as part of the contract). Then we hang up and start again for another 59 minutes!!
I don't know what I shall do when there's no landline as the mobile company do not offer anything similar.

WhatsApp is free - international, video calls etc. saves us a fortune as most of our customers are in USA

As Tizliz says there are many ways to phone anywhere free using your WiFi connection. Video calls are normal nowadays. Don't keep fretting about cost and signal.
If you're not sure, ask a youngster. I get DS or DGS to explain things to me and my 90 year old Dad.
I pay £6 a month, after the purchase of the phone, and use it for everything (eg. camera, wallet, weather, translation, map, tickets, diary.....) including typing this post. I am not using my fat fingers but dictating.

I got rid of my landline years ago and it was the best thing I have done. Less expense. Not scam calls. My mobile automatically blocks scam calls for me. The peace is wonderful
