Do you dress your husband?

How many of you dress or advise your husband/partner in their manner of dressing? Or are they dapper and classy enough to do it on their own?

My ex was colorblind so after he picked out his suit for the day, I had to help with shirt colors and ties, etc.

I see some men walking around who look like they stepped out of a tumble dryer and all mismatched.

Oh really? smile
How lovely!

A slow burner, hopefully.

Yes, but it is a hard task sometimes. I expect that left to himself he would still be wearing trousers with turn ups, and a shirt and tie absolutely everywhere.

I don’t think my husband has bought any item of clothing for himself since we married, other than his bespoke suits, and shoes. I always consult him before buying anything though, unless it’s a replacement for something worn out. He just isn’t a clothes shopper. He is perfectly capable of choosing what to wear!

Never , he knows how to dress himself...

I make a lot of my OH's shirts, as he prefers them to shop bought ones. He is quite long-bodied and has a bit of a stoop to his shoulders so any that he buys ride up at the back and look far too short. Mine fit him better! I know he colours he prefers and buy the fabric in those, but sometimes I will buy some that he may not have considered before but that I think will suit him. So far, so good.

Other than that, no I don't offer an opinion unless asked or if there is an obvious stain somewhere very noticeable that he hasn't noticed!!

kittylester Sat 20-Apr-24 18:14:54

We exchange opinions. I say when he looks good and he does the same for me. We chat about what we might buy and colours etc and often shop together.

Mine would look as if he had dressed in the dark if I didn’t vet his choices.

As would mine!

Mr P is colour blind. I don't dress him but I will sometimes point out colour clashes.

DH only wears outer garments from three or four designers, family know what to buy him.

DH buys clothes twice a year, normally scrubs up well, his body, his money, his choice.

Our Daughters turn up his jeans if he forgets.. style they prefer!

Maggiemaybe Sat 20-Apr-24 18:51:12

I’m pretty sure my DH has much more idea when it comes to style than I do. He hasn’t dared start advising me on what to wear though!

foxie48 Sat 20-Apr-24 19:02:56

No, but he's tall and slim and very conservative in what he wears, so he looks pretty OK. His only purchase that made me scream with laughter were plastic waders which came up to his armpits. Bought to clean out our rather deep and large pond, they did the job but he looked hilarious. I'd post a pic but I'd be too embarrassed!

What would your reaction be if your husband told you what to wear?

He wouldn't have a clue!

He usually gets to the front door then I say "oh dear, that shirt doesn't match that jumper and neither match your trousers."

I love this 👌
My own DH has a wardrobe full of lovely clothes that he has brought himself , but occasionally I do have to stop him coming out in his dog walking clothes that he thinks is quite suitable for a shopping trip .

NotAGran55 Sat 20-Apr-24 19:25:29

Good grief no. He’s 65 not 5 and I’m not his mother.

MissAdventure Sat 20-Apr-24 19:28:02

I can just imagine tucking vests in, and doing that thing of jumping them up and down to get the trousers and pants up! smile

Iam64 Sat 20-Apr-24 19:28:03

Nope. Mr i was 28 when we met, so old enough to choose his own clothes. He had an old fashioned love of good tweed jackets. I bought him several as Big Gifts over the happy years. I also bought him expensive hand knit Scandi jumpers. He was 6’6” to a big boy💙 . Scandi clothes fitted him well 💙

A viking type?
Lovely!

RunaroundSue Sat 20-Apr-24 19:43:05

My husband was always smart and knew what he liked. I was always proud to be seen out with him.

flappergirl Sat 20-Apr-24 20:01:36

My late DH had a good eye for what suited him but he would sometimes ask my opinion and I would occasionally ask for his, especially if we were dressing for a special event. I guess this is pretty normal stuff.

LOUISA1523 Sat 20-Apr-24 20:05:02

Hes 62....he dresses himself

Visgir1 Sat 20-Apr-24 20:07:26

Without a hesitation.. Yes, DH is not to be trusted, he hasn't got a clue. Always asks, does this go?
Thank goodness he was in the Military and wore uniform, or Suit.
Absolutely everything he has I have either bought or given the OK to.
My dad was similar mum even bought his shoes.

Lovely!

He was MissA - red hair and an easy friendly manner. His five year old grandson (youngest of the gang) is head n shoulders taller than his classmates and we suspect will be another Viking
