Feeling paralysed with body pain on waking up

That sounds horrible. Two things spring to mind. A) If you’ve recently had joint surgery it can put your whole body out of kilter and it does take time and exercise for it to adjust. B) Do you need a new mattress? I’ve never been as bad as you but did start to get generally very stiff and achey in the morning. A new mattress did the trick. I hope you find your solution soon.

If this happened to me though I would go and get checked at my GP surgery.

I would also think about my mattress, I think the recommendation is to change every eight years?
Pillows also.

Then I would think about my chairs and sofas and how supportive or not they might be- sitting badly sometimes impacts on my hips.

We often overlook how much these things can impact on our ageing bodies and we spend a lot of time sitting and sleeping, so never to be taken for granted.

I am the same, maybe not quite as bad as you. I feel like my bottom half doesn’t belong to the rest of my body!
I was put on a statins six months ago, so don’t know if that’s adding to the problem. It’s took me half hour of stretching, to get going. Now I am sat in a hot bath, soaking my joints.
Maybe you should see the doctor.
I have a scan book for next week to see what is going on with my legs.

No have new bed with good firm mattress and always change my pillows each Jan...and pillow cases several times a week due to heat/sweat....

Am still waiting on GP callback/appt - which apparently now takes 2 weeks or more, but nothing yet....its a waiting game and makes me feel Invisible...

Just wanting blood test to see what changed and happening in my system...I went online and see that now you're referred to another surgery/practice within 10 miles but you have to PAY - .is this NHS or what is happening...feel for very senior people with no experience of new systems with their vulnerabilities/or no close family who check in daily/weekly
I know this as a friend has no contact with family/friends as she has become aloof/not wanting contact/is unwell
..at least I have a voice and and a working phone but ... its so challenging when you have a myriad of health issues and am grateful for support on here with your replies

Well I wouldn't wait two weeks or more for a call back. It doesn't sound like your surgery is providing a same day service which should be available though you do have to phone on time in the morning. At my surgery you can also go to see a nurse.

If it was me I wouldn't pay for something you are paying into through your taxes.

Try googling Polymalagia (PMR) Bea 65.
It is a condition that comes on suddenly and affects shoulders, thighs and legs. Worse in the morning and controlled by steroids. The NHS site is helpful and they add depression and fatigue to the list of symptoms. I also thought it might have been due to statins which I had recently started to take but it was PMR.

Friend suggested I turn up @A&E with symptoms...morally I can't do this...if it was severe pain I would get taxi..but, my last visits to local A&E were traumatising altho GP recommended ...no beds. no pillows/ being transferred at 3a.m. in morning to ?mental ward where patient was screaming at staff to "stop the pain" literally screaming hours on end....I wanted to sign myself out but was still in pain...this is my NHS .

I agree looking at the symptoms of PMR as Lilolady said.

I wouldn't go to A&E either. Are you on good pain relief?

I live in South Yorkshire. It isn't always easy getting appointments here, but we can ring in the morning for the same day, or ring in the afternoon and book a week in advance.

We also have a wider service covering the whole town which we can ring in the late afternoon, but I have never needed to use this.

We also have a partner surgery which is a few miles away, but as I still drive I sometimes ring there and they have more appointments available. It is worth the drive if I get seen.

I am also throwing in a suspicion of PMR or another autoimmune condition. The key question is how long the stiffness lasts. Morning stiffness that lasts longer than one hour is often a feature of autoimmune conditions.

You should get an urgent appointment with a GP if you get groin pain, Bea65. Don't be put off as I was by a receptionist, although she did pass a message on to the duty doctor when I asked her to. The duty doctor rang me back and wanted to see me straight away as she thought it could be an inguinal hernia. It wasn't but it was something fairly serious.

Don't be put off.

Perhaps you have trapped nerves after your THR? Or a slipped disc? We need better follow-ups after TKR and THR (I've had none whatsoever).

It could be something called sleep paralysis , I was diagnosed with it a few years ago. I was really frightened the first time it happened , my doctor said , it's related to my arthritis

I would definitely ring 111 if my surgery didn’t give me daily cover and/ or go to A& E this sounds very wrong and not normal at all
If you won’t go to Aand E go to your nearest pharmacy and ask to have an appointment with the pharmacist they will more than likely get you to the correct place sooner than your surgery which sounds abysmal

My surgery is a big surgery about ten doctors but if you email in at 8 am you get a ring back within a few hours
when I had an infected bite I emailed in at 8 am with a photograph I had a call by 10 am and was collecting my prescription from my nearby pharmacy by 11 am
It’s not good enough to wait two weeks
I wouldn’t be leaving it personally sounds very strange certainly not right

That is terrible Bea65. I went to urgent care last year with pain in my left calf. It was a boiling hot day, I hadn’t taken any water or pain meds, there was a wait of up to 3 hrs, I waited 2hrs, when suddenly the board changed to 7 hrs. I was the only white woman In the waiting room. Full of men. One guy spat on the floor 😩another shouted across the room he was there for a ‘whippy’- presumably car accident!
I told the booking clerk to cancel my treatment, I wasn’t staying.
She really tried to persuade me to stay, saying it could be a blood clot- said I would take my chances & left.

I was going to suggest the same.I have had PMR for the last 6 years....I think Im on top of it. Pain is usually bilateral in arms and pelvis especially in the mornings.
Worth mentioning to GP .Only way to diagnose is with a trial of steroid. I was suddenly pain free after 6 hours...after my first dose.
Then after a staring dose (25mgmfor me ) one has to wean off the steroids very slowly. Im down to 2.5 at the moment.

I was more shocked at the guy gobbing up phlegm, then spitting out right near my foot, (I was wearing sandals) that was mostly to do with it why I left. Disgusting. I mean why spit on the floor when there was a toilet right across the waiting room? Probably worried he would loose his place, no doubt!
