Time to turn the heating on?

I’ve cracked and put the heating on this morning because it was 17C downstairs. I’ll just warm the place up and turn it off until this evening and have it on again for a couple of hours. I can manage if it doesn’t fall below 18C and am getting a gas stove so I’ll be able to use that instead of the CH part of the time.
What’s your breaking point?

No calendar date for heat, best to use temperature and available money to determine - logical approach in my opinion.

Makes sense. Though having followed this thread, it would be safer to say use temperature you’re happy with.

I am taking it day by day, and so far I haven't needed any heating. Just as well because although my year-old combi boiler is working, the handset does not, so that will be replaced next week with something I can fathom.

I have a plug-in heater in the kitchen, which has taken a permanent holiday.

I remember my childhood in Scotland as others described, with the frost on the inside of the windows, and the three of us almost in the coal fire downstairs. There was no heating upstairs but I survived.

I have a 15 tog duvet and a hwb and have used the latter for over a week now.

We lived with paraffin heaters when we first got married. It was all we could afford. The condensation was a huge problem
I still remember singing
^They asked me how I knew, it was Esso Blue.
I of course replied, with other brands that I’ve tried, smoke gets in your eyes!

Thank heavens for central heating.

8 degrees this morning when I woke up in our motorhome. But so warm inside as DH had used his ‘phone to switch on the heating in the night. (Apparently ‘the dog was cold’ 👀?)

Here on holiday in the Lot it was then 34 degrees after lunch!

Have decided the climate is bonkers and maybe we’ll all be carrying extra, weather-appropriate clothing around with us before too long.

I wish I had control of the heating!
I live in sheltered accommodation and we are not trusted with gas boilers. Only night storage heaters . 🤨☹️
This means that the heating is either on or off. Off atm, with little oil heaters used if required and blankets for my cold feet in the evening.

I like a warm jumper slung over my shoulders so it hangs cosily down my back and I can tie the arms in front like a scarf. Worn like this it's easy to put on and throw off .

I went to a girls boarding school in the Borders, in a Victorian mansion. No central heating, Unheated dormitories. No double glazing. It was so cold in the winter term we got fully dressed under the blankets including our kilts.

I regularly used to get dressed under the the bedclothes both at home and one Winter in a particularly cold N facing flat on the Scores in St Andrew's .
We were thrawn 🥶

We weren’t even that far North, but getting dressed under the covers was a regular event in winter.

Yes, I remember that too!

The frost made very pretty patterns on the inside of the windows

Oh not until the end of October.
I think it’s been mild last couple of days & nights.

No heating on here, wore a cardigan over a blouse. I can't afford to put the heating on yet, goodness me it;s only the middle of September.

No heating to turn on. The CH contractor was due to start on Monday. he has just delayed it to Oct 13th.
