Everyone has some oddities What are yours?
My friend rang this morning with a few problems. What to do with a last years Christmas pudding and a bottle of out of date Baileys. I suggested eating and drinking, giving to kids or food bank or throwing out but she couldn't decide and worried as they were out of date.
She also had a big box of chocs out of date and unopened in case she ate them all.
First World problems.

It often strikes me that some people have never had any real problems. Lucky them.

Christmas pudding and Baileys will surely be all the better for keeping.
I’ve done the chocolate thing. Kept it unopened too long, then had to eat them all myself as they were discoloured so couldn’t share them. LOL

Christmas pud:

Put out in bits, the birds and squirrels will decide if it is safe to eat.

Empty the bottle of Baileys out and recycle the glass.

The chocs? verging on the ludicrous

But.....

I think she just wanted a natter with you and seized upon these things as a "way in"?

My oddities: looking up which fruits, veggies and juices are both laxative and low FODMAP. Answer" ......google and order correct juices from Amazon, there, sorted. Sorry if any TMI in there 🙄

Some people have some funny ideas. When my late MiL was given perfume, she would never open the bottle. Her reason was that, if she opened it, it would evaporate and she wouldn’t be able to use it! I puzzled for a while about that one, but was none the wiser!
Different situation, but just as strange ……I met a neighbour this morning and she was all dressed up. I asked where she was off to in all her finery. ‘A funeral’, she said, (rather too gleefully, I thought) They always give me an excuse to dress up!’
As my ‘oop north’ Dad used to say, ‘there’s nowt as queer as folk’!

Ah, but there are further considerations

"What to wear to your own funeral"

Oh dearie me...with alcohol and chocolate..I never have that problem. Right this moment I'm waiting for my Tesco order so that I can get my hands on the chocolate ...

My father refused to wear his hearing aids full time because "it runs the batteries down". Consequently he never got used to them

Unfortunately Baileys goes off. When my husband’s step mother’s parents died she cleared out their drinks cupboard and gave me the open bottle of Baileys. It came out the bottle in lumps - think that is the only present she has ever given me.

My DH worries about the hinges on the dishwasher if you open and shut it all day (good excuse not to load).

I have been known to pour the remains of last year's Bailey's down the sink, it had been in the fridge but I didn't trust it.

As for the Christmas pudding, still pondering whether to eat the five year old one or not hmm

Chocolates - what is this unopened word?

Chocolates - what is this unopened word?

Much the same as those tips telling you what to do with unfinished wine Allira wink

Five year old Christmas pudding will be fine if it has been infused with alcohol.

grumppa Fri 28-Nov-25 16:33:05

Left too long, Baileys solidifies in the bottle. You have been warned!

What is a sharing bag?

Allira Fri 28-Nov-25 18:29:42

😂

They're not Terry's, they're mine!

Mixed with ale and brandy then steamed for five hours!

grumppa Fri 28-Nov-25 19:43:51

I should have been more explicit. The solidified Baileys had never been opened.

😲

How old was it? Vintage?

Desdemona Fri 28-Nov-25 21:34:05

No food banks take out of date items.

The pudding might be ok if it is a achohol infused one,

If the chocolate is the cheap and horrible sort like Quality Street or Roses just bin them. Nobody likes them anyway.

Baileys - a naff Xmas drink that people feel they have to get in, but few people actually like it. Pour a glass and if it tastes ok and isn't lumpy it probably is allright.
