Why can't I wear this to a wedding?

I have a dilemma and would value some advice, please.
My eldest GD gets married in a few months time. Her Mum, my eldest DD, has asked me what I am wearing for the day.
Just before Covid, my cousin's GD got married and I bought a lovely 2-piece outfit. It is a coffee coloured lace skirt and matching top, both lined. It fits as if it had been made for me, is very comfortable to wear having an elasticated waistband and I like it.
When I told my DD I was planning to give this outfit a second airing, she was horrified. She says I must have something new. My argument is that 7 years ago I went to this wedding alone as it was some distance away so the family haven't seen me in it.
Should I stick to my guns and weather the inevitable fallout, especially on the day or should I surrender and cough up for a new outfit that will likely never see the light of day again?

Well, Sarnia, have you come to a decision? I hope you make the decision that is best for you 😊
We posters have all come along with what we think is best, but really, the choice has to be yours, so I wish you well with the dilemma you find yourself in.

I would wear it, no doubt.

Princess Anne's trick is to change the accessories, so would it be an option to have a new/different hat, shoes or bag perhaps if not too expensive?

Coffee is pretty flexible, going with deeper browns, cream, white, any shade of pink, and I love it with teal. Could you match to bridesmaids perhaps?

I would like to say a big thank you to all of you who took the time to give me advice on my dilemma.
Some suggested talking to my GD who is getting married so that's what I did. I put the outfit on and sent her a photo. She reassured me that the outfit is just right to wear at her wedding. We agreed that I would buy new shoes, bag and fascinator and also a fancy pashmina in case it is chilly in early May.
She is going to tell her Mum!
Thanks again you lovely GN's. X

Nothing better than approval from the person whose big day it is. Enjoy shopping for the accessories and have a wonderful day.

I’m so pleased to hear this. It’s so important on big occasions, to wear something you feel happy in. I’ve got a wardrobe full of clothes that I’ve bought for family weddings, most of which I’ve never worn again as I don’t go anywhere formal, and it seems such a waste. And, in retrospect, I think I usually ended up wearing what I felt I should have worn instead of what I wanted to wear (which would have looked better imo).

I wore the same outfit I bought for our thirtieth wedding anniversary for my nieces wedding. Nothing was said and some had seen it. It was expensive and I would of bought the same again.

So glad it's sorted, Sarnia.
I'm sure it'll be more enjoyable finding accessories than a whole new outfit.

I suppose if your daughter is still not happy you could take her shoe, hat and bag shopping so she knows you value her input?
...maybe?

That’s lovely, Sarnia, I’m so pleased for you. smile

I guess because I’d commented earlier, I started getting ads for similar outfits on my Facebook and there were some beautiful, elegant outfits I’d definitely have chosen. I don’t have any weddings likely in the near future but if I do, I’m going to add coffee-colours to the list.

Hooray for a sensible granddaughter sarnia. I’m pleased she liked your clothes and you can be comfortable at her wedding. Super outcome.
