What time do you go to bed?

I'm beginning to think that I've got days and nights mixed up.
Especially during these short winter days.
Thank God I've still got a husband and he goes out every morning before 7am and we get up around 5-6 in preparation.
So by now I'm thinking of having supper of toast and jam and going to bed. We have our main meal at lunchtime.
I do read in bed for an hour or so.
Are we abnormal?

crazyH Mon 20-Jan-20 19:31:56

No Fennel, you're not - I am. I am awake when everyone is fast asleep (about 12.30a.m.) and just stirring, when everyone else is up, bright and breezy (about 8.30a.m) . Now, do you feel normal? I hope so ?

Curlywhirly Mon 20-Jan-20 19:32:16

I don't like to go to bed before 11.00pm. I think it stems from being the youngest of 3 and being sent to bed much earlier than my two older siblings; I still equate going to bed early as some kind of punishment! DH has no such hangups - he's usually in bed by 10.00pm at the latest, despite having an hour nap at 7.00pm; that man could sleep for England, and win!

Marydoll Mon 20-Jan-20 19:33:40

Midnight for me and then up at 6.30am to take some of my medication and I don't nap during the day.
There aren't enough hours in the day for me.
Fennel, we are all different, it's what works for you, that matters.

I'm often off to bed at 9pm, read for an house and lights out before 10.30pm

TrendyNannie6 Mon 20-Jan-20 19:38:15

I go to bed around 1130 and up at 630/7

Patsy70 Mon 20-Jan-20 19:38:50

What's normal, Fennel? It depends on your lifestyle, personal preferences, how much sleep you require, whether you work or not, surely? I'm retired and usually in bed by 10.30 and then read for a while. I often wake about 4am, read a little, then go back to sleep until about 7am. My OH goes to bed about midnight and gets up about 9am (unless he's playing golf, going to gym/archery), having read for a while. We're all different.

Ellianne Mon 20-Jan-20 19:39:46

Around midnight. Not up until 8.30 ish

phoenix Mon 20-Jan-20 19:39:57

I used to go to bed around 11pm, but I've found myself gradually moving to Mr P's schedule!

He gets up at about 4.30am, therefore goes to bed around 9pm.

I used to get up at 7.30, but now seem to be in the kitchen not long after 6am confused

Pudding123 Mon 20-Jan-20 19:42:05

I usually go between 10 and 10.30 but usually wake about 3 .30 to go to the loo ,sometimes I go off again until 7 but sometimes I can't get back to sleep stay awake and watch the news at 6.

jura2 Mon 20-Jan-20 19:45:19

Both retired, and we like to watch the 10pm News- which is here at 11pm as we are 1 hour ahead. Often Newsnight afterwards- so bed around 12.30...

alarm goes at 8.15 and OH usually gets up soon after and takes dog out, and ahhhh how appreciated, brings me a cup of rooibosch - and I let it cool down a bit for a few extra wonderful minutes.

FlexibleFriend Mon 20-Jan-20 19:45:24

I go to bed about 11-11.30pm and get up at 8.30-9 am.

bluebirdwsm Mon 20-Jan-20 19:49:45

I go to bed about 11.15pm, read for a bit, wake 7.40ish.
Take a cup of tea back to bed, read again and get up 8.30-9am.

But I've often had a bad night and been awake for 2-3 hrs in the night.

lavenderzen Mon 20-Jan-20 19:50:23

Go to bed at 9.30 pm and read for an hour and a half. Awake during the night every few hours, usually up by 7.30 a.m.

tanith Mon 20-Jan-20 19:50:46

I go up at 10 watch the news or read a while. I’m awake by 6 earlier in Summer, I always get up in the Summer but I read or watch the news channel till 7/8 in Winter.

Tedber Mon 20-Jan-20 19:54:11

What is normal fennel? Part of the beauty of not being tied to a work routine is choice! When am not working, I often love to go to bed really early (sometimes 7/8 pm) to read or watch t.v. My bed is SOOO comfortable. I sometimes fall asleep early and wake up around 4, get up and have a cuppa, read or watch some more and then sleep again. I love the freedom of not having to be tied to the clock. Do what you want!

I am a real night owl and go to bed between 1.00 and 2.00 often spending time when I should be sleeping reading or on Gransnet. Our alarm goes at 8.00 and I am usually awake but not wanting to get up before the alarm. The trouble is that I am incredibly lazy in the mornings and will sit having coffee and toast in my dressing gown until after 10.00 if I don't have a definite appointment.

I am trying to change this pattern because it makes for short days, especially in the winter when it gets dark so early. I am trying to go up to bed a little earlier with my kindle. It has a light which means I can read without putting a bedside light on and disturbing my husband who is always in bed by 11..00pm at the latest. It seems that in this, as in all other things, we are different. Oh well ...they say opposites attract.grin

sodapop Mon 20-Jan-20 20:14:41

Yes that's right Tedber no routines needed now we are retired. Whatever suits your lifestyle Fennel

Phoenix why does Mr P get up at 4.30am that is incredibly early.

Urmstongran Mon 20-Jan-20 20:16:23

Aren’t we lucky to be able to choose? Unlike someone I know whose last carers of the day often put her to bed by 5:30pm to fit their schedule. So sad.

Anniebach Mon 20-Jan-20 20:18:01

I go to bed at 10.45pm, after the paper review. Listen to my audio book until 12.00 news. Wake about 7.30, have mug of tea, look on iPad, talk to my dogs, don’t get up until 9.20,
no reason to.

Namsnanny Mon 20-Jan-20 20:18:11

Tedber ...When you say your bed is soooo comfortable, can I ask why, what is it, and where can I get one?
I'm being serious actually, I'm desperate to get into a better sleeping habit and I'd like to get a new mattress/bed.
Any suggestions?

BlueSapphire Mon 20-Jan-20 20:27:07

I go up between 11 and midnight. Then write my journal in bed and read. Usually awake about 5am and try to doze till about 6 -7 am.
The cats like a routine and come and sit in front of me about 11pmish, and wait for their evening brushing, after which they have a treat - they are great creatures of habit.
They usually come and leap on me in bed about 6.30am, but I can usually keep them at bay a bit longer.

bikergran Mon 20-Jan-20 20:50:08

I go to bed around 6pm sometimes, maybe slightly later. 6-30 ish.

I think boredom is the cause, plus I get tired easily lately.

I'm bit late tonight as I have been looking after grandsons till dd finished work.

Im up around 7 ish or earlier when Im in work 3 days as start at 8.00am

Im starting to love my bed confused

Harris27 Mon 20-Jan-20 20:50:34

My poor husband is still up at 3am getting ready for work starts at 4am roll on retirement few years to go! We’ll probably still wake early then!

love0c Mon 20-Jan-20 20:52:32

I go 10, 11. 12? when I am tired. If I go before I am tired I just lay there and brood! and then never get off.
