The joy has gone!

My wonderful friend was killed in a car accident on the motorway yesterday evening. We think she had become confused on the roundabout and went down the exit slipway into oncoming traffic. I am absolutely devastated.
Her body was released this evening and I was too afraid of driving to the wake to see her and be with her family. My own ability to see and drive at night is failing. My son, thank god, drove me there.
Everything gets so hard the older we get. And grief and loss compound the fears.

Losing family or really good friends at any time is heartbreaking. Your friend will live on in your memory for ever, and will guide you in your future life, she will be with you, I am sure, always xx ??

How awful for you, Mande. Any unexpected death is a shock to the system so do look after yourself.

Driving or being a passenger is one of the most dangerous things we do (statistically) and yet we ignore that risk. Instead, we worry about flying - which is much safer.

Here in the UK, about 70 people are killed or seriously injured every day on the roads. It just doesn't truly register until it's somebody we know:
