We had to keep our hockey socks up with garters which almost stopped our circulation. I was lucky to be the eldest of three daughters, so my clothes didn't need to be too big for me, only tough enough to be passed down the family. Our blazers were royal blue which faded in the salty sea air to end up sky blue. Mostly they were bought new.

although I have to agree on the knees and lower legs - shorts only to be worn in the privacy of the back garden!
I remember the now-Dowager Duchess of Bedford (ex-model and very glamorous) saying that as you get older you can choose between your face and your behind!!
My knees on the other hand, are best left to wobble under cover.
