We are delighted to be doing a Q & A with Emma Thompson on 7 September to celebrate the publication of "The Further Tale of Peter Rabbit".

This is the 24th tale in the existing collection of Peter Rabbit stories and the first time that Frederick Warne has published as additional title to Beatrix Potter's original series.

In this beautifully illustrated book, Peter's adventures take him all the way to Scotland where he meets the gentle ginat Finlay McBurney.

Emma was inspired to set the tale there and create this new character by her knowledge of Beatrix Potter's childhood holidays there.

We also have a signed copy to give away - to enter simply add your question below. Emma will pick her favourite on the day.

You are not daft Gally - as if! smile The deadline for questions was Friday but it was a Q&A rather than a live webchat and Emma was I believe tackling them on a flight to LA on Saturday. We hope to have them back very soon and we promise we'll make it very clear on the home page etc when we do. I'll chase tomorrow if they haven't arrived by then.

What is your view of the roles available to women in theatre, TV and film: does it get more difficult?

sneetch Fri 07-Sep-12 12:40:04

Can you tell us a bit about your relationship with Scotland?

flopsybunny Fri 07-Sep-12 12:34:00

Of all the characters you've played, do you have a favourite role?

dorsetpennt Fri 07-Sep-12 10:04:04

I like Emma Thompson, I really do, she is a wondeerful actress as her mother and sister are too. However, why write a book based on a well loved classic character from another author. She obviously has talent why not choose her own character?

Woh! He's visiting Scotland? Do you think he could pop in to Glasgow and visit my grandaughter?

Can't wait to see the book - have such strong childhood memories of Hunca Munca and Benjamin Bunny as well as Peter Rabbit. Will you being writing more children's books, and would you consider something like an illustrated poetry book as a gentle introduction to the songs of Victor Jara for children?

How does your daughter like the new Peter Rabbit books - was she your inspiration for writing the new stories?

diva1977 Tue 04-Sep-12 12:11:21

Does MR MacGRegor have family in Scotland and does Peter get into a pickle in his garden?
Does Peter have Scottish cousins ofr his sisters to play with ?

kathrob Sun 02-Sep-12 23:07:53

what would Beatrix Potter think of this ?

Funkyferret Sun 02-Sep-12 15:13:36

Which Peter Rabbit character do you think most resembles you?

Gally Sun 02-Sep-12 08:19:23

Thanks Cari I shall reserve judgement and start saving for the cheaper version! grin
I would just like to say to Emma - a propos of nothing - that The Winter Guest which she made with her Mum some few years ago, is absolutely my most fave film of all time, probably partly because the area is so familiar to me as is the weather (!) but also the story line is close to my heart. If I want to have a good old blub and a laugh, I watch it and achieve all emotions sad/smile

Did you run your ideas for the book past your daughter before finally deciding on a story?

Alidoll Sat 01-Sep-12 15:42:59

Is Finlay, the giant rabbit that Peter meets when he is in Scotland based on someone we know like Robbie Coltrane or Billy Connolly as you "acted" with both in the latest Pixar film Brave?

Slainte!

pennwood Sat 01-Sep-12 15:34:24

What do you think makes the 'magic' Peter Rabbit is so loved for?

inishowen Thu 30-Aug-12 15:42:35

What is the age of Peter Rabbit now. Is he a "boy" or a "man"?

janepearce6 Thu 30-Aug-12 15:26:32

Does the 'new' Peter Rabbit book contain illustrations by you or your lovely mother (she looks as though she ought to be able to draw!)?smile

Hello Emma

I would like to ask what your reaction was when you were approached to write the book? Following in the footsteps of Beatrix Potter must have been a scary prospect.

Thank you

getmehrt Wed 29-Aug-12 10:55:50

I would like to ask Emma whether she was torn between writing and acting when she started her career?
