Over the festive season we love nothing more than curling up with a good book and a box of mince pie or two. And this year there are some VERY good books indeed. So we asked all the publishers we work with to nominate one of their favourite reads to enjoy this Christmas. And here they all are in one handy list.

Better still - one lucky gransnetter can win the ENTIRE lot. Yup - that's every book featured on the page. Worth more than £500. In our book (no pun intended) that's a pretty fine haul at any time of year - and absolutely perfect for Christmas.

We just want to know where you like reading. Your answers will be put into the very large hat and a draw (made at random) will take place at midday on Weds 10 December - so the winner will receive their prize in plenty of time for the big day. All the details on the page

I used to like to read in bed but find that if I do it for too long now I get a bad neck/shoulder pain the next day so I now bring my book downstairs and sit curled up on the sofa or in my armchair. Not a lot of housework gets done!

curled up on the sofa with a mug of hot chocolate is my ideal moment

My favourite place is in bed, but I also enjoy reading in an airport waiting lounge, a plane, or train. It makes the time go faster.

I love reading in bed with a cup of tea and chocolates.
I also love reading in the garden when it's summer.

In the car whilst waiting for a fare (being a taxi driver) I sometimes forget I'm supposed to be working.

Love reading curled up in bed, with our cat curled up beside me. Have at least one book on the go, and more on holiday

Curl up on the sofa with a hot drink

Where I read depends on the weather and time of day, in spring, summer and autumn in an afternoon I read outside in the orchard under my favourite tree. In Winter and in the evenings I curl up in my sitting room in my snuggle chair with a lovely soft blanket I found in TKMax. Later at night I read while snuggled in my bed.

I am happy to read anywhere

I like to read outside in the garden in the warm weather but in the winter it's a coy arm chair

bopper Thu 27-Nov-14 23:39:48

in bed, late at night, with a nice cup of tea to enjoy whilst reading

I actually rather like dog sitting for my mum as in the winter I can go over and look after the dog, sitting reading a book in her big armchair looking out of their patio doors to the snow falling, but all nice and cosy as the coal fire is burning away. Bliss!!

Favourite place to read? It would upside down, floating in space, with no one to disturb me as I drift away in orbit!!!

Seriously, though, it's usually one of 2 places -->

In Winter, it will be reading in bed before zonking out. Either that, or stretched out on a sofa in front of a simmering fire on a day off from work (when the weather deems it an 'indoor day').

In Summer, it will be ..... ummm .... reading in bed before zonking out. Or ...... ummm ..... stretched out on a sofa in front of the a/c on a day off from work (when something other than the weather deems it an 'indoor day').

It is earlyish on a summer's evening (say 7.30pm) & we are at my static caravan by the sea. The heat of the day is receding & the light is starting to fade.
In the second bedroom are 2 freshly showered children, already in their PJs, waiting for a bedtime story, which they have agreed without argument. My chores are done & in the fridge awaits a delicious light supper & a perfectly chilled bottle of wine.
The story is enjoyed by all, kisses exchanged & they settle for the night immediately, exhausted by their day of seaside fun.

YEAH, RIGHT, IN MY DREAMS!

In reality it's more likely to be 8.00pm & they will not have had a shower.
Their bedroom will be hotter than the hottest thing you can think of & there will be a variety of reasons for not having the window open. One (3yrs) may settle fairly quickly but the 5yr old will find numerous reasons over the next hour or so to come out of their room to share some perceived problem.

Eventually all will go quiet, can she possibly be asleep? Dare I go & check? No!

Yes, they are asleep & I can finally settle down for an hour or so with my book. I shall need an early night of course as we shall be up bright and early tomo

My favourite place to read? Absolutely anywhere.

I read all over the house - there is even a selection of books in the 'smallest room'!
However, my favourite place of all is my bed - in the winter all snuggled and cosy under the duvet with electric blanket heating my bones, in the summer lying atop the duvet with the open window allowing a cool breeze to float across the room. I am sure this stems from childhood, when my grandmother, great aunt (who lived together) and my mother all read in bed before they went to sleep - it was the only free time they had throughout the entire day for such a luxury! Reading matter was obtained from the fortnightly mobile library van, which had a notice over the door which said 'Duck - or grouse' and a specific smell - how I miss that smell! My mother chose books for me as I would be at school at the library's visit time and introduced me to some lovely authors. This has given me quite an eclectic taste and I read (almost) anything, so a collection such as this would be a fabulous Christmas gift - though I doubt I'd leave my bed till June - perhaps I'll give notice on my job later, just in case .....

When it is cold and wintry, my favourite place to read is in bed

greenfinger5 Fri 28-Nov-14 13:40:03

My Favourite place depends on the time of the year, In the garden during the summer, but during these months, its tucked up in bed with the electric blanket been on. toasty.

pompa Fri 28-Nov-14 14:10:36

Definitely in a warm bed on a cold night. In summer, sitting by the sea.

mcculloch29 Fri 28-Nov-14 15:54:02

Anywhere is my favourite place to read, if the book is good enough.
For the magic of a good book is that it takes you away from the here and now and draws you somewhere else.

I've never missed my stop or station on the bus or train because I was reading, but I've had a few close shaves...

Sat in my armchair at home, I've looked up to discover that it's 2 am already and I have work in the morning... or in bed, that it's 3 am and the same applies.

And it has to be a book for me. So often a book drops from my hands as I fall asleep (at home, not on public transport!). I suspect a Kindle wouldn't last long in my house.

My lifetime favourite place to read was a mimosa tree we had outside our house in Cyprus when my father was posted there. It had a branch like a chair in it and enough foliage and blossom to hide me when I was being called for at washing up time, etc.! It was always another world where I was wrapped up in the life spun out for me in the book I was reading.
