To be published in January. Oh dear ?

Yes, and if she chooses to exit the RF as being a spare, I bet she will do it with good grace and style.

Charlotte, the future Queen.

As it's free, I read the Mail on-line which has been sued and lost a libel trial against Meghan. I think there is another pending. So they are very hot on anything that is, anti, the pair of them. I chuckled this morning to read an article about James Hewitt, (remember him?) who according to the DM, despite ill health and poverty, has been part of a charity for a number of months, transporting stuff to Ukraine. Quite the coincidence that the day the book Spare's publication is announced, his Mother's ginger haired, ex-lover hits the headlines, for something he has been doing for months. Made me smile.

I believe Elizabeth had a sister who thought she was more fitted to the role of queen. Her life became a sad succession of unsuitable men and too many G&Ts. The position of younger sibling to the heir and monarch has never been a particularly happy one.

^I shan’t buy the book, but will order it from the library^

That is the biggest insult you can give an author because it means they will only get one royalty from the original sale!

In that case I will as well or just get snippets from the DM online because it’s free.

To be fair a long line of unsuitable men and G & T's sounds great to me. I would certainly prefer that to the Queens or Catherine's life smile

FannyCornforth Fri 28-Oct-22 16:34:56

Well, it’s served me well Galaxysmile

Galaxy Fri 28-Oct-22 16:36:25

Me too, but the thought of it is a bit exhausting now wink

MrsKen33 Fri 28-Oct-22 16:50:30

Oh I don’t know. ?

Sparklefizz Fri 28-Oct-22 17:31:15

But these people, like Princess Margaret etc, have more money than sense. Personally I would want to do so much if I had that opportunity without the responsibilities and duty that the Queen had to follow. She could have chosen to really make something of her life, not just drift around. Ditto many others in the same situation.

I know
You’ve said this on others threads Fanny and it does sound like you are wishing something very bad for her brother.
It really disturbs me.

Perhaps I’m ultra sensitive on this and it’s not what you mean at all.

Bit of a trigger for me.?

M0nica Fri 28-Oct-22 22:21:39

Sparklefizz I am sure that if Princess margaret had been young now, she probably would lead a useful life, but her youth covered a time when the social rules that governed her behaviour were far more restrictive than they are now. Remember she was prevented from marrying Group Captain Townsend because he was divorced.

Different times, different rules.

Quokka Fri 28-Oct-22 22:56:55

Hilarious title. Love it! Harry and Megan draw more fire on here that Vladimir Putin – "from people who struggle to articulate exactly what their problem is".

Callistemon21 Fri 28-Oct-22 22:57:27

Well, Princess Margaret's children both manage to live fairly normal lives away from the glare of publicity.

vegansrock Sat 29-Oct-22 04:42:48

People are only in the “glare of publicity” because they are newsworthy, people love to gossip about them and they sell papers. The Mail and their readers love to hate this couple for ridiculous reasons. There is more hatred towards them than towards many truly awful people. He’s written a book. You don’t have to read it or anything about it. Ignore it if it makes you so venomous. So they’ve gone to live abroad like lots of other people. So they write books and give interviews. Who cares. Don’t read them if you don’t like it. The RF are super wealthy and privileged but aren’t deity.

Good article about people who love to hate the Sussexes

Lathyrus no, it’s definitely not what I mean. I don’t think anything horrible will happen to him at all. In fact, quite the opposite.
No need to be ‘triggered’.
I just think that George will not be crowned, he’ll turn it down.
He will decide that he isn’t temperamentally suited to the role, unlike his sister.

FannyCornforth Sat 29-Oct-22 06:07:14

Or be ‘disturbed’ for that matter. You’ve definitely got the wrong end of the stick!

FannyCornforth Sat 29-Oct-22 06:09:17

Next time I will make sure that I explain myself properly so that people don’t jump to conclusions about me.

notgran Sat 29-Oct-22 07:55:57

The expression "Spare" isn't a Harry original. I have heard it referred to many times over the years pre his being born. The Queen gives birth to "an Heir and a Spare". I'm sure I originally heard of it in History lessons at school. It is something Harry will have known forever so the title is just factual not really insulting. I'm a second born and have two children. The second born is brought up in a more relaxed environment as the parents have experimented perfect parenting on the first born and realised they don't have to be so intense about child rearing stuff with the second born.

annsixty Sat 29-Oct-22 08:04:37

Fanny
I have thought that about George for some time.
He has always seemed to me a very anxious child but I hope as he matures he also grows in confidence.

NanKate Sat 29-Oct-22 08:16:01

DH has just read that Waterstones is offering it at half price. ?

lemsip Sat 29-Oct-22 08:44:52

so is W. H. Smiths

be £10 in sainsbuys too

FannyCornforth Sat 29-Oct-22 08:52:17

Thanks Ann smile
It’s £31.13 at Amazon, oddly

volver Sat 29-Oct-22 08:56:32

Amazon use an algorithm to set the price according to how many people are buying/ordering it. More demand, higher price.

Maybe it's more popular than you all thought it would be. ?
