To be published in January. Oh dear ?

FannyCornforth Sat 29-Oct-22 08:58:52

Do they! Thank you Volver
I’ve heard that it’s already the top selling book, even as a preorder.

As an aside, I don’t understand why people would preorder books

FannyCornforth Sat 29-Oct-22 09:04:34

Volver, I never doubted that it would be popular.
We’re all interested in it!
I expect that most of the best bits will be serialised in the Daily Mail, with a commentary of feigned horror.
I will definitely read it, but probably not all the way through.
It’s written by the chap who wrote Andre Agassi’s biography, and that was supposed to be a brilliant book

I'm not.

I'm interested in what makes middle aged women so enraged by a posh bloke in the US writing a book.

Oopsadaisy1 Sat 29-Oct-22 09:08:12

I had no doubt it would be ‘popular’ people are always interested in being nosy.

I’m sure the interest is worldwide. Voyeurs all of them.

FannyCornforth Sat 29-Oct-22 09:10:26

Volver, I know what you’re interested in.
You like a good spat

MOnica Remember she was prevented from marrying Group Captain Townsend because he was divorced.

Once she was 25 she could have married him and given up her title but she chose not to. She wanted both.

Zoejory Sat 29-Oct-22 09:13:59

It's £14 on Amazon

Joseanne Sat 29-Oct-22 09:51:37

Still free to a good owner - just one chewed up page by an unimpressed canine reader! Can be posted.

I'm sure the library wanted to male a profit out of me asking for the full £16.99. Surely they buy books from a consortium at highly reduced prices?

This cartoon made me laugh this morning!

Wouldn’t we all hate any of our family discord to be played out in public? Beyond awful.

I don’t doubt Harry has had a lot of unhappiness in his life. The death of his mother at 9y and being encouraged to do that long walk behind his mother’s coffin with all those crowds? Gruesome indeed. I cannot imagine my 10y old grandson ever being able to ‘perform’ in that way. I can only imagine he was given some medication prior to stepping out.

It will have damaged him that’s for sure. Add to that the turmoil he will have witnessed on occasion between his parents who then divorced when he was a tender little shoot.

But I’m not sure a ‘warts and all’ is the best route. Seems he wants the money though so he’s sold his soul to a high bidder. It might help his emotional health in the short term “see, I told you all it was horrid”. But as the dust settles on the book jackets in various charity shops and after the media have picked over the bones of it in the tabloid press, I think he’ll have some regrets. But privately.

Poor man. I think he is damaged. I hope he finds happiness, eventually. Or at least release from his demons.

That said, picking continuously at a scab makes it sore and even bleed. Leave it alone Harry. Give it chance to heal.

You wanted. A Private Life. You can have it with your beautiful wife and adorable children. Stop reaching and preaching and appreciate the blessings you do have.

vegansrock I don’t think the article in The Guardian is a good article at all. The writer appears to spectacularly miss the point. It seems to me that people don’t ‘hate’ Harry and Meghan as she claims, but they dislike the Oprah interview in which they trashed their family for the entertainment of the world, and told, it is said, seventeen lies in that interview. I don’t know about that but they certainly did tell some lies, such as the one about getting married in the garden three days before they actually did get married (how embarrassing was that for the Archbishop of Canterbury?) Normal people don’t go on television and trash their family to the world. It was big news because it was so abhorrent. I’m not even a royalist but I recognise appalling and inappropriate behaviour when I see it, and that’s exactly what their behaviour was. You’re right when you say the royal family, including Harry and Meghan, are super wealthy and privileged, but that’s not why their behaviour is despised. Not haters, but definitely despised.
Interestingly The Guardian goes on to say how you can order Prince Harry’s book through them!
I won’t be ordering it through anyone because I don’t want to read it. I don’t think it will be interesting, but I accept that others might think it will be so. Perhaps in future both the journalists at The Guardian and others could defer from name calling, by that I mean calling people haters. It’s horrible and unworthy of journalists and the demographic that reads Gransnet.

I love the cartoon Urmstongran.

….seems he wants the money so he’s sold his soul to a high bidder.

Echoes of Doctor Faustus then, and look what happened to him!

Harry needs intensive professional help.
He is self indulgent and very damaged ! Yes , his childhood was unsatisfactory but also very privileged! I feel so sorry that our lovely cheeky Prince Harry is now a sad man. His book will most certainly cement his exile from his family and he will regret it. The title of his book is inflammatory - dread to think of the content. I will not buy or read it.

Farzanah Sat 29-Oct-22 10:43:02

Thanks for link from Marina Hyde in Guardian vegansrock.
For a huge throng of the vicariously enraged this week’s release of the cover of Harry’s forthcoming memoir has once again proved a ticket to near apoplexy.

I’m finding the whole circus hugely entertaining, and a distraction on these darkening days.

Love that cartoon Urmstongran. Thanks for posting.

I will not be reading the book, even from the library. I feel incredibly sorry for William and Kate.

So you actually have access to his private life? He may very well be in therapy for all you know. One of the processes some therapists recommend is writing or telling your own story . The idea is then you are able to move on. Of course Harry is fortunate in that he is able to get paid for telling it.
I don't understand how it's OK to have a series like the Crown speculate on what goes on in the RF, but if you were actually there you shouldn't talk about it.
Anyway it's the old Good Royal, Bad Royal which has been going on for years. I remember when it was Charles who was the object of hatred and derision. The whole thing is weird.

Namsnanny Sat 29-Oct-22 12:02:21

That's the point of such a book isnt it?
To create forment and manipulate the public?
For or against, lies or truth who cares, it's all money on the bank.

maddyone Sat 29-Oct-22 12:14:47

Oh yes, it’s enormously entertaining grin

Calendargirl Sat 29-Oct-22 12:42:28

I think people pre order books so they can be the first to say “I’ve read it!”

I’m sure ‘Spare’ will be popular, doesn’t mean it won’t soon end up in the bargain bin or charity shop.

We can all have a good chinwag about it once it’s been published.

Except Volver of course, as she has already said it doesn’t interest her.

(No doubt she will have an opinion on it, none the less).

timetogo2016 Sat 29-Oct-22 12:49:52

I am not intersted in him or her,so it won`t make it passed my front door.
Although if there`s another shortage of toilet paper it could come in handy.

volver Sat 29-Oct-22 12:50:00

I won't have an opinion on the book. I don't have opinions on books I haven't read, and I don't read celebrity autobiographies. Except Alan Cumming, his was interesting.

I do have an opinion on the "vicariously enraged".

Awesomegranny Sat 29-Oct-22 13:09:39

Shame he needs to play the victim role. It’s a pity he can’t move on and get on with his life, dwelling on his past and fate of birth Harry will never be happy with his lot.

Prentice Sat 29-Oct-22 13:10:36

maddyone an excellent comment from you 10.38.32.
A very good assessment of the situation I think.
