Just a little self-indulgent weep

I know everyone on this forum has real problems to deal with (so do I!) but please let me have just a little shower of tears, then I'll buck up.
It's a mild, sunny day today so DH (stroke survivor) decided to "have an hour in the garden". This usually means he grabs the loppers and proceeds to chop something down (aka "tidying up"). I didn't think there was much damage he could do today, as the tree men came last week and gave everything a good tidy up.
I went out just now to ask if he wants a cuppa and saw that a rose I've been nurturing for 10 years is now a 6-inch stump, with one valiant leaf hanging on. I know he can't help it (b****y brain damage) but I've wept all the same.
OK, folks, that's all I needed. Back to whatever kind of day we're all coping with...

Sending you a hug and positive thoughts that your Rose will survive. They are such resilient plants and often benefit from a hard prune. Some good advice regarding propagation. Pleased that you’re feeling more cheerful. 🌹

After our gazebo collapsed I thought I’d have to lose two climbing roses, one I was very find of, the other a newer rose had a wonderful scent. After a tear or two both were cut almost to the ground with the intention of digging out the roots. The next Spring our favourite was covered in new shoots, we left it and its very vigorous again, full of blooms this year. The other one tried, I was less fond of that so out it came but I’m sure that would also have thrived if left alone.

Don't despair, carrottop, with luck your rose will be back next spring. Totally understand the tears , I was the same when the gazebo collapsed.

Oh Carrottop I’m sorry. Some days are just the last straw. Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day. flowers

Oh CarrotTop you have every right to feel sad.
I hope that your rose recovers.

PS. Your weep is definitely not self indulgent.

No, it's not.
It will make you feel better to let it out.

Give the rose a manure mulch and 🤞 it will grow back even better next year.
