One of the lovliest hymns / songs that I know is:

Never weather-beaten sail more willing bent to shore
Never tired pilgrims limbs affected slumbe more,
Then my weary sprightly now longs to flye out of my troubled breast.
O come quickly, sweetest Lord and take my soul to rest.

Ever blooming are the joyes of Heavens high paradise
Cold age deafes not there our eares, nor vapour dims our eyes;
Glory there the sun outshines, whose beames the. Lesser see;
O come quickly, glorious Lord and raise my spright to thee.

It is from The First Book of Ayres (c1613) by Thomas Campion. I have a lovely recording of it sunk by Michael Chance with Nigel North playing the lute.

I've chosen it for one of my funeral hymns.

Some typos above forgot to stop the spell checker for the Elizabethan spelling. But I think it's clear enough!

Thank you for reminding me of Glad that I Live - another one we used to sing at school and I had forgotten! Might bone up on the words again!

DH just called me his "singing angel"!!!!!!!!!

Yeah right. grin

Not a hymn, but a Christian song which has a very special place in my heart. My husband sang this in our local theatre in 2001, to an audience of 250+ people. Our youngest son was ten at the time and very, very shy, but he agreed to dance alongside my husband as he sang. My husband choreographed a solo for him and it was so, so beautiful. It was, to date, one of the most moving things I've ever experienced and I was in tears by the end. Every time I listen to this song I see my little boy dancing and remember my feeling of awe at what he did and how very brave he was.

I AM CONFUSED! WHAT IS GOING ON?
it's that dratted jing's fault as usual.

whatisamashedupphrase Wed 15-Feb-12 18:53:55

divine intervention is taking the thread over

Just try and guess! It's easy! hmm

whatisamashedupphrase Wed 15-Feb-12 18:56:03

There is a certain thread on GN at the moment which, every time I see it in Actives, I think of this particular song. Which is a bit counter-productive to the author of that thread's original intentions. grin

Try and guess!

jeni Wed 15-Feb-12 18:58:24
