Grace is a bit miffed that she has had to budge up, but recognises that her mum has been a bad, bad, bad granny and will not be allowed out until the nice ladies at Gransnet Towers say so. Her mum is sad that her scintillating exchange of views with another lady has been curtailed - surely not censoredshock- and the thread she started has apparently disappeared like a snowflake on a river - a moment there, then gone for eversad
It seems a shame that smutty schoolboy lavatorial humour and crude innuendo are deemed acceptable despite leainge a bad taste on an otherwise friendly, companionable and intelligent site. She has said she will apologise to any parties named (or not) so, apart from hanging her head in shame, tail firmly between the legs and ears drooping, what more can she do? She will probably have many more hours in the day now to take Grace for nice walkies instead of sitting at that machine on the desk. [woof] emoticon.

Well, the weather is certainly making me feel grumpy, dozy, and cross as it means I've had to cancel going to see DGD.
I've laid out the pattern for a dress for her instead. Can anybody tell me:- do I make the interfacing from the same material (a fine needlecord) or should it be lighter. It talks about fusible interfacing, do I cut that smaller than the lining or what?

Elegran Sat 24-Nov-12 15:40:20

It has kept me from doing anything else today but follow the adventures of Bill, Jen and Rick and the comments of everyone else who is following the saga. I assume there are other interesting threads to read? Or I could do some work? - nah, never that.

jeni Sat 24-Nov-12 15:43:29

I meant the lining from the same material? I'm confused. It talks about interfacing on the interfacing. I presume the one interfacing is the liningconfused ^ HELP^

Elegran Sat 24-Nov-12 15:49:44

Jeni Do you mean facings? Making them from the same fabric could be bulky. How big is she? She could be swamped. Using a lighter material could be better, but they might show a bit round the edges. Could be done neatly enough not to though. Watch out pressing needlecord - It really only needs close-up steaming. If you let the weight of the iron down onto it, you get ridges where the turnings are.

Interfacing goes between the main piece and the facing. I would cut it just as big as to the seam line, then the turnings are not thick and stiff. The fusible one needs ironing on - same caveat about ironing applies. Does it really need interfacing for a little girl's dress in needlecord? Surely it is substantial enough without?

jeni Sat 24-Nov-12 15:56:55

I'd have thought not. So should I get some more lighter fabric for the facing? I'm a complete novice here. I can sew people, do a very nice blanket stitch for episiotomies, but fabric?

Movedalot Sat 24-Nov-12 15:58:16

Wow Elegran now I really do feel inadequate! That all sounds so clever and complicated. I am so glad I don't own a sewing machine or someone might expect me to be as clever as you! I don't understand a word of what you and jeni are saying!

Barrow Sat 24-Nov-12 16:03:03

Me to Movedalot I can't sew on a button without it falling off again. Someone once asked me what I did when my DH shirts needed repairing - I said I threw them away and got some new ones!!

Thinking about it I don't know why he married me in the first place, I'm a terrible housekeeper, can't sew and hate cooking! Must have been for my sparkling personality grin

annodomini Sat 24-Nov-12 16:03:51

Thank you, jeni hmm, you have just taken me back 40-odd years... shudder!

jeni Sat 24-Nov-12 16:09:47

grin

Elegran Sat 24-Nov-12 16:22:26

Pity you don't live nearer, Jeni. I would come round and laugh help. Well I could sit and tell you what you are doing wrong anyway. Can it wait until the 11th of December? I shall be in Bristol then taking presents down to DDS and DDG.

Movedalot Sat 24-Nov-12 16:22:49

Barrow it was love! He can't control who he falls in love with. smile

jeni Sat 24-Nov-12 16:25:56

No! I'm going away but thanks! Laugh is probably right! I'll try it with material I have. It's a pinafore dress and she's only 16/12.

Barrow Sat 24-Nov-12 16:27:21

Ahh, thanks Movedalot. When we knew he was terminal we sat and had a long talk looking back over our time together and the nicest thing he said was that he had no regrets.

Movedalot Sat 24-Nov-12 16:33:25

Oh Barrow, having not been on GN for weeks and not for long before that I had no idea. I am however glad that you were able to have such a good conversation. DH and I are very busy making good memories so that whichever one of us is left alone at some point we will be able to look back happily on our years together.

He does sound like a nice man. smile

moomin Sat 24-Nov-12 18:02:29

Reading this thread through whilst cooking (probably a little foolhardy! Fingers still in one piece tho') Now I know why I rarely post, read thread with assorted amazement and amusement. Cheers all and here's to Saturday evening wine

jO5 Sat 24-Nov-12 18:07:59

yoga I did just that! Went out in son's new red sports car (porsche of course)hmm and am now feeling slightly sick from over-indulging in almond croissant in Pattiserie Valerie. smile

jO5 Sat 24-Nov-12 18:09:41

I second that Moomin

Marelli Sat 24-Nov-12 18:09:58

I haven't been able to make head nor tail of what has happened here confused. I shall go and give the curry a bit of a poke and pour myself a large gin and tonic. It's been a funny day.....hmm!

jeni Sat 24-Nov-12 18:13:52

Funny peculiar rather than funny haha

Ana Sat 24-Nov-12 18:24:11

Oh, I don't know! Some bits were really funny ha ha! grin

JessM Sat 24-Nov-12 18:26:15

Gosh, I go away to N Wales for a few days and come back to gracesmum convincing herself she is in doghouse. Don't worry, gracesmum you are not the only one to accidentally transgress the rules of GN and we live to tell the tale. Or forget what it was about. flowers
