It has been confirmed that the remains found are beyond reasonable doubt Richard.

Will there be a state funeral?

glassortwo Mon 04-Feb-13 11:09:43

Well dont think they will be able to put him in the garden, I would imagine there will be something fitting.

j07 Mon 04-Feb-13 11:29:11

Fantastic! So amazing!

Learnergran Mon 04-Feb-13 11:33:07

Finding it difficult to get my head round the fact that it is really him.
I hope his remains are treated with the respect they deserve and it does not turn into a circus.

As I think JessM commented on a previous thread about RichardIII - at least he found a space smile

It's a bit so what? isn't it. Archaeologists have identified a heap of bones as belonging to a dead king and… No doubt they'll be interred in due course with due dignity. Perhaps York Minster would be an appropriate place. He's still dead. You can bet nothing will change the minds of those who believe that he murdered the Princes in the Tower, in spite of strong evidence otherwise, and that he was a Thoroughly Bad Man and King.

gillybob Mon 04-Feb-13 13:04:14

Sorry for being childish but I have always known him as Richard the Turd

grin

FlicketyB Mon 04-Feb-13 13:24:31

I understand that he is to be re-interred in Leicester Cathedral.

j07 Mon 04-Feb-13 13:33:06

absent you'd trying too hard now.

Remember when they found the tomb of St Phillip in the Holy Land? No, of course you don't. That was wow! too

absent Mon 04-Feb-13 13:36:40

Didn't you post about that j07? Btw What am I trying too hard to do? grin

Oldgreymare Mon 04-Feb-13 13:40:53

I'm sure that the Richard the Third Society will ensure that the remains of this great king will be interred appropriately, as you can see I did not believe the propaganda. smile and yet sad

absent You are probably right about the way he will continue to be presented. Shakespeares version of a viscious monster.

That is really unfair. He was a cultured man and a humane legislator. Anyone commenting on his motives etc, has to look at the context of the times in which he lived. That is very violent times at the end of long and bitter civil war. Compared with the other monarchs of the time including Henry Vll. He was one of the better guys.

I was appalled by David Starkeys lack of historical perspective on a program on Saturday night. He failed to mention any of the contextual factors which may have led to a fairer assessment of Richard's actions at the time.

Heigh Ho such is history!

He is apparently going to be buried at Leicester Cathedral. The press conference said is standard practice in Archeology to bury remains in the nearest consecrated ground to where they were found.

Channel 4 at 9pm tonight has a proper program on this.

j07 Mon 04-Feb-13 13:41:31

To sound hard! grin

Yes did post about it. Not sure I got any replies. hmm

gracesmum Mon 04-Feb-13 13:41:48

And it is possible that St Nicholas is somewhere under the remains of the Trafford Centre Grotto, I believe.grin

j07 Mon 04-Feb-13 13:43:52

confused ?

Mamardoit Mon 04-Feb-13 15:22:59

I think it's fantastic that they have found him and that he will be burried in Leicester. York and London have enough to attract visitors. I'm sure it will make a difference to Leicester and hope they cash in on it.

It is quite significant. He was a king of England and the last one to be killed leading is army in battle. There is all the DNA stuff which I find fasinating. People from all over the world are interested. It is a great story if nothing else.

St Nicholas?

Lilygran Mon 04-Feb-13 15:26:09

Programme on Channel 4 tonight, 9pm. And people talk about spin as though it's a new idea! I don't expect we'll ever find out what really happened to the Princes in the Tower.

j07 Mon 04-Feb-13 15:26:15

Am I weird in wishing that they would put his bones on display. Or just let me have a private viewing.

absent Mon 04-Feb-13 15:43:59

Lilygran Henry VII was a past master. grin

j07 Yes. grin

j07 Mon 04-Feb-13 16:00:20

[shrug] grin

Nelliemoser Mon 04-Feb-13 16:09:31

There was new evidence in the programs I saw on Saturday night that the princes father Edward lV was illegitimate and almost certainly concieved whilst his father Edward lll was away campainging in France. This was said to be common rumour at the time. It is said that E3 looked nothing like his father and was thought to be the son of a particular good looking tall and blond soldier.

jo7 Look at the Leicester uni website. The have photographs of the remains and the head injuries. Also photos of the remains in situ. The degree of scoliosis is dreadful

Whilst we have known for some time this was possibly Richard III, nevertheless what a fantastic archaeological find. Just been looking at pictures of his skeleton with the very defined curved spine. Fine set of gnashers, top one missing, wonder if that was sustained at the Battle of Bosworth!

Nelliemoser Mon 04-Feb-13 16:51:22

BAnanas I thought that about his teeth. A darn sight better that mine were at 33. Not too much sugar I expect.

BAnanas Mon 04-Feb-13 17:02:56

Yes Nelliemoser, I'm thinking he didn't overdo the Coke and Seven Up!
