on Sunday, then I believe it will show that this country has lost any small semblance of moral decency it was holding onto. And that the heads of a national institution have let all thoughts of ethical reasoning go out of the window in favour of political correctness.

I can only hope that it doesn't make number one.

But, my God, this country has sunk to an all-time low.

Very sad.

And I hope the four year old child who was amongst the noisy demonstrators doesn't turn out to be a noisy, aggresive young man. Can only hope I guess.

MiceElf Sun 14-Apr-13 22:12:55

I expect he will grow up to be politically aware.

celebgran Sun 14-Apr-13 22:20:39

Politics have no place in teaching in my opinion and you certainly have good opinion of yourself nanaej I will leave you to carry on thinking how great you are!

MiceElf Sun 14-Apr-13 22:23:11

And there's another personal attack, Celeb, if you want to address an issue with well thought out and evidenced points, go ahead. Mere assertion and rudeness impresses no one.

annodomini Sun 14-Apr-13 22:23:15

Can it be called censorship if the recording is freely available on the internet and on any DVD of the Wizard of Oz?

nanaej Sun 14-Apr-13 22:25:23

J08 I suspect many of us have experienced grief at the death of a beloved and loving parent. I know I have.

If I had any inclination to be personally unkind to PMTs family I would have sent a letter to them but I would never do such a thing.

MiceElf Sun 14-Apr-13 22:25:32

I think the issue is that the Beeb were intending to play five seconds with an 'explanation'. Other top of the pops would be played without comment.

POGS Sun 14-Apr-13 22:26:28

I am sorry jo can take good care of herself but I will defend Celebgran although she probably will not feel it neccessary.

I am fed up with this continual bish bash when posters dish it out but cannot take it back.

For goodness sake if you are loud and proud to say you have downloaded the song are you not asking for a response, or as I said on another thread merely making a statement and using the forum to have your own way. Pathetic.

I too am seeing a collective respect for human decency being eroded, that was once unimaginable in this country. I am saddened that professions I once had a respect for such as a teacher who teaches disadvantaged kids, police officers, and yes those who I had once thought were of a good christian and charitable mind loose their moral compass. Not only over this b----y song but in life in general.

Now I will sit back and wait for the Sheriff, The Deputy Sheriff and the rest of the possy to wade in.

celebgran Sun 14-Apr-13 22:27:18

Well you seem to mange to be rude mice elf it is not my intention I find it very sad that people can be so insensitive and intolerant.

I stand by what I say politics extreme left or right have no place in teaching IMO it was not meant to be offensive to nanaej though agree may not have put it well.

merlotgran Sun 14-Apr-13 22:29:51

Well it didn't make the top spot so a waste of time and money. Does anyone really want this silly song in their 'collection?'

I always thought Cherie Blair was the Wicked Witch confused

gracesmum Sun 14-Apr-13 22:29:55

Now that it has been played (or not - I wouldn't know as I wouldn't dream of listening to the charts, haven't done so since the DDs were teenagers!) maybe we can have an end to this particular ding dong?

Dresden Sun 14-Apr-13 22:32:22

I feel that common decency should stop any thoughtful person from downloading this song. I agree with jo8 that it is cruel and unkind. I also think, that as someone on the News Quiz this week said, " each man's death diminishes me for I am involved in humanity" quoting from John Donne of course.

In any case surely the death of this old woman will make very little difference to the lives of most of us, it's a long time since she had any power to affect government policy.

I think I am really trying to say that in publicly celebrating someone's death, we somehow demean ourselves and the value of human life in general. Sorry if that sounds a bit weird.

j08 Sun 14-Apr-13 22:34:50

Dopesn't sound weird at all Dresden.

MiceElf Sun 14-Apr-13 22:34:59

Nanaej is not pathetic. She explained why she downloaded the song.

It was not to 'have her own way'.

The sadness of this is that those who object to public money being spent on what should be a private funeral ( in the manner of other PMs) and having the military out in significant numbers, have no other public way of expressing their disquiet.

As for the comment about 'a good Christian and charitable mind'
I really fail to see the point. Indeed as a Christian, I am embarrassed by those who call themselves Christian who exhibit such personal animosity to those they disagree with. Happily, there are two bishops who have articulated the distress of those who feel that the shape of the funeral is inappropriate.

celebgran Sun 14-Apr-13 22:35:10

Pogs very well said!

You sound like a person after my own heart it seems sad to me a few on here just look for trouble and as you say can't tolerate it coming back to them.

Is deeply worrying that children may this sort of influence that actually approves this lack of basic human kindness.

Thank you for much needed support!

How can censorship be opposed? Shall we let little ones watch pornography?
There has to be. Line of basic decency which is not crossed or we may as well give up.

celebgran Sun 14-Apr-13 22:39:04

Interesting point one politician made that the funeral cost was drop in ocean to the money Margaret thatcher saved the country in negotiating the eu contract.

Ignorance is bliss as they

MiceElf Sun 14-Apr-13 22:39:24

Celeb your comment is risible. Are you really equating pornography with a silly song?

j08 Sun 14-Apr-13 22:42:36

I think that was a good point actually. Where do we start to draw a line?

celebgran Sun 14-Apr-13 22:44:53

Thanks jo8 off to bed now good night all sleep well!

j08 Sun 14-Apr-13 22:45:20

And it's got nothing to do with the "silly song" itself.

#givesup hmm

POGS Sun 14-Apr-13 22:45:38

Mice

As a christian, I am embarrassed by those who call themselves christian who exhibit such personal anymosity to those they disagree with.

I couldn't agree more with your words.

MiceElf Sun 14-Apr-13 22:46:19

I thought you said this thread was not about censorship. Consistency please.

j08 Sun 14-Apr-13 22:47:24

What?! Clarity please.

POGS Sun 14-Apr-13 22:49:26

confused

MiceElf Sun 14-Apr-13 22:50:01

I'm pleased to hear that POGS. If you reread this thread you will find disagreement about the issues, sometimes forcibly expressed. And you will also find some personal animosity, ( one of which was deleted by GNHQ) . In this discussion, feelings will run high. But personal attack is always inappropriate.
